Possible to get in shape while pregnant??

Is it possible to loose inches and tone up parts of the body like hips, butt, thighs, legs etc... while pregnant through safe excercises? Or will efforts to do so be uneffective until after you give birth?

No regular workout is "a waste of time" during pregnancy. You make your body stronger. I worked out 6 days a week with my second pregnancy, 24 hours after delivery, I took the baby for a stroller walk (the delivery time was only 15 minutes also). I found that my upper body toned much easier during lactation and pregnancy than my lower half. The body needs fat to make milk! I had been lactating way beyong nursing (a year and a half) because aerobic activities, wearing no bra in summer etc were keep on stimulating the milk production. During that time, my legs would not slim down. Now, finally after wrapping my breasts and doing absolutely no cardio workouts for two weeks, I don't lactate anymore and my legs are slimming down rapidly. To be fair, I haven't been overweight. Good luck!

Well as long as it is safe, like the other poster said, it's not a waste of time at all. I exercised through all three of my pregnancies and with the last one I DID lose inches and tone up my extremities so yes it is possible. But also keep in mind the body is going to try and hang onto the fat for milk stores, I didn't exercise to lose inches I just went to stay in shape and I think if that's your goal you'll do fine :)

It is a time to listen VERY carefully to your body and adjust your workouts to meet your growing needs (on a day to day basis).

Although you may notice muscle tone improvements from certain exercises, it is inevitable that your body will store fat for the making of the little miracle ahead. But don't be discouraged. Even though you may not always feel like exercising is making much of a difference during pregnancy, it certainly is and will make getting back into shape after pregnancy so much easier.
