Hello all,
I've been away from the forums for a long time, but thought I'd pop in and say hi. I saw the thread asking about where the pixies went and thought it was sweet of you to wonder. Since I quit posting, I've had a lot of stuff going on that kept me away, then the forums changed and it seemed like others left and I just got out of the habit! But I see that some of my pals are still here so I think I'll try to stick around and chat once in a while.
Here are a few highlights of what I've been up to. Since I quit posting, DH and I bought and moved into our first house (I think some of you remember the crazy storm and the flooded house and condo!). Soon after we moved, I left for about 2 months while DH held down the fort. I was pretty much gone all summer. First I spent 3 weeks in Quebec city in a program for French teachers, which was wonderful. Then I went to see my parents in Maryland for about a month, and my sister Carolyn and her DH Jason also came from Germany. We were all there because our Dad had his second major spine surgery. It was a very tough surgery and involved epic amounts of driving between my parent's house to Walter Reed about 2 hours away, but he pulled through and is recovering nicely. When I got back I had little time to get ready for my 3 classes at the community college, and right before school started we adopted two adorable kittens (littermates), Delilah and Gaspard, who are now about 4 months old and a ton of fun (and trouble!). More recently I got drafted into the fall play at my college to replace someone who had to drop out, and that gave me a few weeks of extra craziness.
But the coolest bit of craziness is that during the trip to my parents, we ended up in New Jersey trying to get Jason a military (aka free) flight back to Germany. We had to stay there a few days and realized that Glassboro wasn't too far away. So, we went to Cathe's gym and got a tour in the evening, and the next morning we took her high step class (killer workout), and THEN, we got to chat and hang out with the wonderful Cathe afterwards! We were so lucky that she had a bit of time that day. It was so amazing and unbelievable to meet our hero and find that she was every bit as warm and sweet as we had hoped. She was so confused about where we were from (I live in Michigan, they live in Germany, our parents live in Maryland, and we were in New Jersey trying to get a flight)!
In the midst of the moving, travel, teaching, acting, and new kitties, working out has not been a priority at all. I've had so much time off from consistent work outs, it's scary. That's another reason I stayed away from the forums--I wasn't happy with myself for not working out. But just this past week I'm getting back into it and it feels so good!
Sorry this is so long--a lot has happened, and I'm still leaving out some huge stuff! And I just have to add that I'm so thrilled about Obama. I don't mean to offend anyone here, but it's just huge for me and I for the first time in so long I feel so hopeful about our country's future. OK, I'm off to rake leaves for the millionth time!
