Poor circulation question

FiddleFit

Hi! Has anyone experience circulation problems in their fingers that worsened due to pregnancy? I'm not talking about pinched nerves that can happen later in the pregnancy due to swelling and water retention, but rather a condition called Raynaud's Disease/Phenomenon, that existed prior to the pregnancy, but got worse once pregnant. There seems to be some tentative links to the increase in estrogen as making the symptoms worse, but I can't find a definitive medical opinion on this. Anyone else have this problem?

Sandra
-now officially diagnosed with a "disorder" "syndrome" and a "phenomenon". What else can I collect?

I started having problems with carpal tunnel with my last pregnancy and still have problems now - almost 2 1/2 years post-partum. A friend of mine also developed carpal tunnel while pregnant, but hers went away within a few months of delivery.

My husband has Raynaud's, but obviously has no pregnancy experience.

Sandra,

I haven't officially been diagnosed but I have this problem with my fingers (my sister has it too and her toes go numb in addition to her fingers). I did notice that it got a little worse when I got pregnant. I just try to keep my fingers warm by wearing gloves almost all the time. This seems to work. If you find out any more info, please post again to share.

Erica and Imani, thank you for your replies.

Erica, would you mind giving your DH some estrogen shots and reporting back whether his symptoms increased or not? It's for a good cause.........

Imani, have you talked about this with your ob/gyn or midwife? I'm just wondering his/her opinion might be on this. I see my own ob/gyn in a month, so will talk about it then, if it doesn't get any worse in the meantime. My GP told me it's nothing to worry about, but it's always more reassuring to hear directly from the person who specializes in pregnancy, IMO.

If anyone else has any input or personal experiences to relate, I'd love to hear more. Thanks!

Sandra,

I haven't talked about this with my OB yet. I guess I just figured that since my heart was doing double duty with the baby, less blood was getting to my fingers. My blood pressure has been going down and my OB said that this was normal and gave the same reason. If you talk to your OB about it, let me know what they say.

Imani, your explanation makes good sense. I will update this if my ob/gyn has anything further to add.

Cheers,
Sandra
