Pneumonia

I have just gotten over having pneumonia and I really want to get back into my exercise routine. I haven't worked out in about 3-4 weeks and I really miss it. The doctor didn't schedule a follow up appointment, I finished my antibiotics and I feel about 90% like myself. Have any of you had pnuemonia? How long did it take you to get back to feeling yourself? I guess I could start off easy with something like P/P and using the elliptical.

I just can't believe that I got so darn sick.

Hi Dana, sorry you had Pneumonia. I never had pneumonia, but if you are feeling better I would bet you could start off slow and gauge how you feel. Glad to hear you are better and take care.

Dana, I just got over pneumonia about 6 weeks ago. It hit me hard and fast. I did not work out for about 2 weeks and when I got back to it I did lighter versions of everything just to guage my body's response to exercise. I honestly did not feel 100% until about a month after my illness. I also waited until my appetite was back up to its usual "hungry". Remember that with not working out for a few weeks you shouldn't go at your usual pace/weightload anyway because you're not as used to the intensity. Go easy and light for at least the first week. I would just do some milder cardio for the first week like walking or ab/core work and stretching and see how that goes and that is ONLY if you are totally conjestion free in your lungs and do not feel weak in any way. Use this as a time to focus more on the benefits of rest and proper nutrition.

Hope this helps you....

I was getting pneunomia every Fall and finally got a pneumonia shot. Nevertheless, I still came down with pneunomia this year. The doctor said it was an unusual strain. At it's worst, I couldn't make it through 2 minutes of a Cathe warmup. The doctor wanted me to just lay on the couch for two days and do nothing. After about a week, I was able to start working out again, after the antibiotics. As with anything else, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. This is nothing to fool around with.

Well, I had it too. I knew I was sick but didn't know it was that bad. Glad you're feeling better Dana.
I agree with the general opinion...start out slow & listen to your body. Stop to rest if you need to. STOP if you need to.
You'll be feeling back to your old self soon, as long as you don't push too far.
Best wishes,
Ruth:)

Wow guys,

Now I know exactly how you feel. I was diagnosed w/ pneumonia on Saturday, and have done nothing but sleep for days. I go back for my follow up x-ray today. I've never been so sick - I hate it. And just 2 weeks ago, I was kicking butt to the new HC videos. Now, I can barely walk across the room. Can't wait to get over this.

Thanks for the thread,
