PMS weight gain?

This may sound crazy...but how much temporary weight gain before your period is normal? I just weighed myself, and I am 5 pounds heavier! I'm bloated right now, I should be getting my period soon. But is that much weight normal??? I usually gain some water wieght, but end up loosing it once I get my period. UGH!
Thanks.

Five sounds pretty normal to me. Someone posted a thread on this just a couple of weeks ago, and the consensus was around 5 lbs. I don't EVER weigh myself anywhere near TTOM:p

I gain 3-5 lbs. I never weigh the week before and usually the first 2-3 days in. I freak out too much and think - WHAT IF it doesn't go away this time! While getting bloated during that time of the month is not always avoidable - if it is really bad, I try to cut salt and add more water and soak in a hot bath.

Your weight will fluxuate pretty wildly around that time of the month. It's not a big deal.

I easily gain 5 pounds or more... And I sometimes eat close the that 17,000+ calories, or at least it seems that way... I'm HORRIBLE at that time of the month. I don't weight myself for days after either... It can take me up to 4 days AFTER to lose it.

I usually only gain a pound or two right before my period and it drops off during. I'm lucky that way. (I've never had PMS either and I've only had cramps once }( )

thanks...glad i'm not the only one.
I'll be 'jumping higher' to loose the extra 17,000 cal. I ate..he..he..and water!
Thanks...

I think I may have to kick Kristy's ass because she never had cramps!;-) I must be PMS'ing!!!

Actually, I just read an interesting blurb in Oxygen about why we crave evil things just before our periods (page 136 center column). The hormone fluctuations cause the body to release extra insulin and results in the body absorbing more sugar into the blood. This causes low blood sugar, fatigue and light headedness, and ultimately cravings for refined carbs.

I think it is wise to track your cycles every month and include how you feel and food cravings. That way, each month you can predict the cravings and be ready with alternative plans. Besides, you may need to share the information with your doctor some day.

Just came across this as I am having pms myself. A good 5lbs easily a week or so before and then maybe a day or two before it's gone. About a week after my cycle I think is the only time I get my true weight. I can even feel it in my body how everything seem to be back to normal. That goes on for two weeks and then the cycle begins again. Hurray. karen

I also tend to gain around the time when I ovulate. Now, I'm ovulating and my stomach looks like I'm pregnant again. I weigh 6 pounds more now than I did on Sunday! Granted, I've been eating more but not that much more.x( Does anyone else have trouble with weight gain/bloating around ovulation or am I just a lucky one?
