....not today, but soon! I see that the VCR is going the way of the Doe-Doe (Spelling?!) bird, so I must think about getting a DVD player.

Any hints about a good brand? And a good place to buy one?!

Thanks as always.

I have 2. One is the Pioneer 503, which is a 5-disk model that I use for my workouts. I love it! The only thing I would change is the remote, which has small buttons and not an intuitive layout. It is programmable across DVDs, so I can set it up to do the combos I want from whatever DVDs I put in there. Until recently I only had Cathes on DVD, but the advanced DVD market has really exploded this past year or so. My other one is a Sony single disk model, which I also love. The remote layout is much better, with larger buttons on the important function. If I had it to do again, I would probably choose the Sony multi-disk unit, because I just like the remote better. For workout purposes, I definitely would recommend a muti-disk machine so you can do combos easily, but not necessarily one that is programmable. I don't think it's that big a deal to switch from one DVD to another when they're in the carousel already. Of course, if you're only going to be combining workouts from 1 DVD, that's not an issue. But as more and more workouts come out on DVD, it would be a shame to be limited. ;)

LAST EDITED ON Jun-29-02 AT 01:58PM (Est)[p] Hi Honeybunch. I have a Toshiba SD-3205 It is a 5 disc player. I love it, although it isn't programmable across discs, just within discs. In other words, I can program the chapters of any one disc in any order I want, but if I wanted to do the warm-up of MIS and then do the biceps of PS, I would have to press stop after warming up, nad then hit a button to take me to the PS disc. NOT a big deal at all for me. When I got it, I was bummed that you can't do the across-disc programming, but now I don't care at all. I never even program WITHIN a disc, because it is so easy to just press a button, go back to the main menu, and pick what you want to do, or just press the skip button and get to where you want to be!
On Videofitness's home page, there is a link to a bunch of information on choosing the best DVD players. I haven't looked at it, but it should be quite helpful!
Have fun. I love using DVD's--so much better in every way :)

Erin,
When you program across disks, do you have to go through the FBI warning at the beginning of each disk whenever they change?

Kathryn

Nope, when I program across disks I just go directly to that section. No muss, no fuss. :) The exception is the Tae Bo DVDs. Apparently they have a default set on them that you MUST go directly to the FBI warning. There doesn't seem to be any way around it. They're the only DVDs that I know of where it has come up though.
