Please Review Guidelines For CrossTraining Aerobics

Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing...but since I've read that your body gets used to aerobics quickly, I'd like to review the guidelines to make sure I'm getting the most benefit from my aerobic sessions. I guess I'm wondering about this since I've been doing Cathe exclusively since I discovered her in February. As long as I'm doing all of her different cardio DVDs and throwing my bike and elipitcal in there also and varying the intensity and lengths....am I doing okay? I don't run and can't, due to medical problems. I don't have rollerblades....so I can't do that. I also don't walk, as I don't think it gets your heartrate up high enough. Do you think it's necessary to do non-Cathe aerobics also for more of a cross training effect?

Basically, I try to do 1 Kickbox aerobics a week, 2 like Imax a week. I also try to do the bike or the elipitical once a week (although I hate them....so it doesn't happen that often).

I've been exercising for many years and want to make sure I'm continuing to burn fat efficiently. I know the importance weight lifting plays also. I'm mainly worried about hitting a plateau with aerobics and fat burning. Thanks in advance.

I think that you can exercise exclusively with Cathe and get enough variety and cross training within your cardio workouts. In fact, a ot of the people here do it! I don't think that you need to worry too much about mixing in other instructors although you might find someone that you like and want to mix it up a bit for variety) or adding machines or other cardio unless you really want to do that for another reason. I try to get in some walking, light jogging, biking, etc., but that is just an excuse to get outside ;)

Christine :)

Do you ever take recovery weeks? Weeks when you do lighter workouts? I like to do a recovery week about every 4 weeks or so, and focus on core strength and functional fitness (which seems to help me come back stronger when I get back to heavier weights.) I really like Core Secrets for that purpose. They are shorter workouts, and I find them enjoyable, and challenging in a different way (balance, functional fitness, etc.)

Yes, I take recovery weeks. I went on vacation about a month ago and took 5 days of rest. I only walked on vacation.

I'm fairly new to Cathe (discovered her in February), so I haven't actually done any of my other DVD's or videos lately, as I'm still in the obssessed phase with Cathe's workouts. Hopefully, this will die down and I will use my large selection of DVD's/tapes for my recovery weeks. I have Gunnar's workouts, most Beachbody and Karen Voight's workouts, as well as the Firm.
