Please help pull me out of this today!

My dh called me today at lunch time and told me he had made a doctors appt. on Mon. He said his pinky finger and his next finger would go numb sometimes. I immediately started to panic, cause he is on blood pressure medicine and has a history of heart attacks in his family. He told me that he didn't mention it to me before because he didn't want me to worry. He said it may not be anything, cause he said how would he be able to play basketball and workout if something was wrong. he doesn't want me to worry, but how can I help it?

Since he called me I went to Wendy's and ate cheese burger and fries and this was supersized! Then I ate 3 cookies. This is the least of my worries, but this is what I do when I get worried. You don't know how good it is to have all of you to talk to!

Please tell me that I shouldn't worry right now. How do I pull myself out of this till I hear from him Monday? I know exercising today would probably get my mind off things and make me feel more calm, but I can't bring myself to it!

I hate the way he won't tell me things! Doesn't he know I am the one person he can share this with? Girls I had to stop typing for a minute cause this is upsetting me so bad. I feel like an idiot doing this. Hopefully everything will turn out okay. I just need some cheering up!

Sorry this is so long!

My pinky finger and ring finger used to go numb frequently - turned out I had carpal tunnel syndrome. There are a lot of reasons this could happen - a pinched nerve, an injury he never knew about (or never got checked out - you know how men are). I'm glad he's going to the doctors. Even if the worse is confirmed, then he'll have gotten help early enough that it can be corrected. I'll be thinking good thought for him and for you Kim (by the way, I can fully understand the Wendy's trip - I also use food as comfort - one day won't hurt you).

And don't feel like an idiot! We all need to reach out every now and again. And there are some really great ladies on these boards!

Hugs to you Kim!

I agree. There are a lot of things that could cause that. When I used to use our elliptical machine my middle toes used to go numb. It could just be something that is putting pressure on the nerves. Try to stay positive. I know it's difficult, but be strong for him and for yourself.

And yes, working out probably would make you feel better, even if it's just something small like taking a walk.

Prayers and thoughts to you and DH.

(((HUGS)))

I agree with the others - it could be LOTS of other less serious things. Usually, carpal tunnel syndrome characterized by numbness in the thumb, index and half of the middle finger. Numbness in the pinky and ring finger would be more typical of cubital tunnel syndrome (different nerve being aggravated). It could very well be something like that - so don't panic. Also, try to stay away from those fried, fatty foods - or YOU'LL be the one having heart problems. :p I definitely understand stress eating - I think we've all been there! Every time you feel really stressed about it, come here and talk to us before you eat anything! The support and encouragement of the people on these forums is a million times better than any "support" you could ever get from french fries. :)

Kim, try and stay strong. It could be anything that is causing this type of symptom. Don't throw your mind into a snowball spin just yet.
He will need you to be your strongest for him!
Think positive Kim and remember we are here for you!

Kim, everyone is right. Don't panic. I know it's hard not to. And reacting as you are is perfectly normal. Relax. You did the absolute right thing by sharing with us.
No matter what it is, it will be ok. Hang in there and keep sharing. OK? Hugs and a prayer for you and DH. :)

Hi, Kim - just agreeing with everyone else. It could be anything....wait until he gets it checked out with a doctor before you panic. And that's very typical of a man's behavior to keep it to himself about things like that. They feel like they are the "Problem Solvers" and they don't like to reach out and ask for help or support with things like that. My bf is exactly the same way.

Okay, you did the gorging thing on "bad food". Put it behind you and now go take a long walk and relax. If you don't feel like doing a workout, do Stretch Max or one of the stretches at the end of a workout. That will help to relax you. Or yoga.

Let us know what the doctor says!

I understand it's scary, but don't worry yet. I have the same exact thing happen to me, and it's from using my computer mouse. It stops whenever I'm on vacation and not using the computer.

Numbness/pain from heart trouble generally travels up the arm and doesn't stay located in the fingers.

One bad meal won't hurt you - just make sure you don't keep eating straight through Monday!

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you...

Lily

Kim, try not to panic. Wait and see what the doc says Monday. I agree with outer posters on this thread, it doesn't sound high B/P or heart problems with just those two fingers numb.
