Please help me with Shoes!

I would really like some good recommendations for shoes. I'm pretty sure I need a cross trainer. I have always bought running shoes but I don't run. I do a LOT of step and hi/lo and kickbox. I have somewhat wide feet so I have to be careful with the arch.

Any suggestions???

Thanks!!

My only suggestion is to get thee to a proper athletic shoe store, with expert staff that can properly fit you for shoes that suit your purpose and your feet and style of moving (pronating, etc.) What works for one person doesn't work for another.

I always bought New Balance crosstrainers but recently couldn't really find any so I got Asics crosstrainers and I love them. Got them at Sports Authority.

Thanks for the advice. I just tend to not find very many cross trainers in the store! And living overseas I'm limited in my "shopping." :)

I have to agree, especially if you have any kind of foot, knee issues. One might also considering seeing a podiatrist who can custom make shoe inserts. I've been meaning to do it myself but it is my understanding it is on the pricey side.

hi angie -- no idea whether youcan find the kind of athletic shoe store suggested by others overseas. and yes, you will tend to find mostly running shoes and fashion sneaks but not many cross trainers in stores. does zappos ship overseas? they hve an amazing selection, reviews of all types if shoes, and the most perfect return policy. i always used rykas but found the last 2 pairs i bought, the design seemed to be getting narrowerand narrower in the toe box. so my most recent sneaks that i am liking are these:

overall, i am 90% happy with these. they are treating me well for step, kb, and weights as well as my long walks on concrete sidewalks. my one complaint is when i do a lot of moves on my toes (like tons of lunges or certain kbmoves all in a row) my toes feel funny and that way these shoes are not as good as my old rykas were. but i could NEVER have walked in my rykas so its all a tradeoff...

good luck honey!

One suggestion: after you find some shoes that work for you, and have used them for a couple of weeks to make sure there are no problems, try to find them onsale and buy several pairs. Shoe makers are notorious for discontinuing styles (I've had that happen several times, and in many cases, the styles that are supposedly an update on the previous one don't make good substitutions).

I find it hard to believe that there are no specialty athletic shoe stores wherever it is you live. People everywhere have feet. They run, bike, exercise in all kinds of ways, and athletic shoe companies usually target a global market.

Thanks for all your help! I am going to be in the States over Christmas so I'll be able to stock up then and try things out. And morningstar, I live in France - people run here but that's about it. Finding a crosstrainer is nearly impossible - even in Paris! :(

Crosstrainers

Hi Angie,

I would also have great difficultly in finding specialist shoe stores, so i understand how you feel. I've read a lot of posts regarding shoes in order to get ideas, and the Asics Intensity Crosstrainer seems to be a popular & liked brand. I also think the Asics Gel 150TR has been given excellent reviews as well, I would wear the U.K version of this the 140TR and the support & cushioning is excellent with these. It was also suggested that New Balance 855 would be a good shoe.

Hope this helps.
