Please help me weed out my fitness collection, I'm desperate - warning: long

BAM

Cathlete
I have finally decided to go through all my fitness vhs and dvd’s. They're just taking up way too much space which I could certainly use and I can't stand looking at them much longer. I’m not sure whether or not to keep certain ones. Others, I have not yet opened and would rather not if they don’t get a good review. I’ve tried to make this easy for all of you kind people to help me but I do have several general questions then I’d like to know your thoughts on some specific ones.

1.) I have copied some of my vhs to dvd but am having a REALLY hard time getting rid of the vhs for the “just in case” syndrome. If I have the copy on dvd, should I get rid of the vhs and not think twice about it?

2.) As you know, our fitness tastes are cyclical. What I used to like, I may not like now but may in the future. What do I do with ones that at this period of time, I’m just not interested in? i.e. I have several George Foreman walking vhs tapes. One is opened and the others are not. I’ve only used it once. What if in the future I could use a tape like this? I do have Leslie Sansone tapes as well.

3.) Where is the best place to sell them? E-Bay? I’ve never used it but I will. Can I group them all together or do I have to list each one separately?

4.) How do you determine the prices for vhs and dvd? Some I’ve opened and some are still sealed. Many of the ones that I’ve used have basically been viewed once or twice. Some older vhs have been used more.

This is a list of the vhs ones that I have unopened and would like your opinion on:

Leslie Sansone’s In-Home Walking – 1998
Bellydance Fitness for Weight Loss featuring Rania by Natural Journeys – 2002
Crunch Free Abs with Scott Cole by Natural Journeys – 2001
Denise Austin Hit the Spot Easy Toning-4 Tone and Stretch Workouts – 1996
Denise Austin Ultimate Fat Burner – 2001
Gaiam Pilates Conditioning For Weight Loss with Suzanne Deason – 2001
MTV Yoga with Lori from The Real World – 2002
MTV Power Yoga with Kristin McGee – 2003
MTV Pilates with Kristin McGee – 2004

The following are unopened DVD’s that I’d like your opinions on:

Gaiam A.M and P.M. Walking with Debbie Rocker (includes cd workouts) – 2006
Baron Baptiste Journey Into Power Power Vinyasa Yoga – 2004
Baron Baptiste Core Power – 2004
Core Secrets Ab Assault – 2003
Winsor Pilates Power Sculpting with Resistance Band – 2004
Winsor Pilates Abs Power Sculpting with Resistance Band – 2003

Of course I also have a ton of The Firm on vhs and just can’t get rid of those. I don’t have any of them on dvd.

I really appreciate any input. This has been weighing on me for awhile and I absolutely want to get this resolved. I already have quite a few in a box and ready to go. Thank you!

P.S. I reserve the right to add to this if I find more that were hidden. :)

Good question, I was thinking of starting a thread about this. The only VHS to DVDs I'd keep are my Taebos and old firms. Those DVD-Rs do get finky sometimes later and you may need to make another copy of it.

I have other VHS tapes I'm thinking of just listing them in one big lot (group together) on eBay for really cheap or giving them away..if I can't give them away, I'm not sure what to do with them? Most libraries aren't taking VHS any more. DVDs you can try the SASE on Videofitness or give to the library if you really just want to get rid of them.

I forgot about all of my Tae Bo videos. Geesh! This is driving me nuts. I could use the money so I would like to try and sell what I have.

I sell mine on Amazon. The commission they charge is is higher than ebay, but it's sooooo easy. They add a shipping fee that the buyer pays which is usually more than the postage required to send it.

As far as prices for individual items, look for similar tapes on Amazon and see what they are priced at. That will give you an idea of whether or not it's worth it to even bother selling it.

Some Firm VHS tapes are selling for less than $2 on Amazon, some are more. Sometimes products get hot, then they aren't. Some Taebos go for a fair amount of $$. Not the ones from the 4 pack live, but the Advanced Live 12 or 9 are usually good sellers. Advanced Live 11 is currently listed for $24.99 + s/h.

Good luck!

I've also sold mine on Amazon bc for me it's easier than dealing with e-bay. I went through my old fitness DVDs that no longer interest me or are now way too easy, i.e. beginner stuff & sold a bunch of it. I just like the ease of Amazon. As jonahnah said some products are hot & sell quickly & for a good price some sell for peanuts & it's not worth it but it's worth checking out.

Not sure you'll get very much money for the vhs, make sure to charge for shipping or it will likely cost you money to get rid of them. You can go to ebay, search for the items you want to sell, and view "completed listings" (the option is in the left navigation) to see what your items are selling for. I think you need to be a registered user to view the completed listings, but you can also always view the items that are currently on sale whether you are registered or not.

I sold my hip hop abs set, and actually got back exactly what I paid for it, which I thought was really odd. I knew I would never use it again, the cardio is too light. So for me if I look at a dvd and just know it's a waste of my time, that one can go. But even things I don't love, like yoga, I found it useful to hold onto those dvds for the rare occasion I just feel like doing something like that. I gave my DH another dvd to sell for me on ebay, but after we looked it up, and it was selling for about $2-3, it was not worth the effort for me, so I just put it back in my "not so great" bin. I'd rather give it to someone who might want to try it out, than go through the hassle of the post office for a few bucks. So if I get a bunch to bundle together at some point, I can always try to get rid of it that way.

You can either list them separately or bucket them together. At least putting them together, is less shipping hassle for you.

A woman had placed ALL of her dvds in a bundle, and I mean she had some great ones in there, lots of Cathe and Amy Bento even most of the Ilaria dvds, I had bid on it, but stopped at a point because I had a lot of them anyway, but figured I could sell some back on ebay. Anyway, I did not win the package, but someone did for about $150, unfortunately that woman really shorted herself by bundling them, she totally could have made more listing separately, I think it was at least 40 titles.

Thanks for all the info. I think I will bundle all of the vhs ones together and do the dvd's separately. It sounds like this would make more sense. I will definitely check out prices first. Thanks again!

The Taebo prices I quoted you were for VHS. Those particular titles aren't available in dvd format. There are many fans of those titles still out there who keep our VCRs just for those workouts (me included!)

ITA that some VHS aren't worth it to sell as singles so you're better off bundling them.

HTH!

Oh, it definitely helps since I wasn't sure how to handle it. I just hope I get some feedback on the ones I listed. I'd hate to sell a gem!

WEED??? Oh, never mind.:p
:D !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed you have Baron Baptiste's DVDs. I haven't viewed those specific workouts, but I have 2 other Baron DVDs and love them. I have also rented some from Blockbuster. I think he's worth keeping. I've never done a Baron workout that I didn't enjoy.

Thanks Lori! I'll put them in the keep pile. :)

I get worried about getting rid of a workout and later on it becomes a gem... Like there's Jillian Michaels Biggest Winner Workouts, the set sold for $20 or so dollars. Then it was discontinued and now it's going for $60+ dollars on Amazon. And remember Cardio Step Mix.. I traded mines before it was selling for $100+ on eBay and was kicking myself for it.

Does Amazon charge a fee even if the item doesn't sell?

BAM, you can sell/trade DVDs on the ya-ya boards, and you can trade them on videofitness.com, if you're a registered member. I do it and I've had good experiences so far.

Thanks again everyone for your input. I just wanted to bump this to see if anyone might have reviews on the unopened dvd's/videos that I have so I can determine whether or not to keep them. Much appreciation. :)
