Please explain why ICE is intermediate.

I was reading that ICE is considered Intermediate. Why?

I always just thought you could increase/lower the weight to make the workout work for you. Therefore I could take any dumbbell workout and increase the weight, making it advanced or decrease the weight making it Beginner/Intermediate.

For cardio, I just thought you could make the moves more explosive to make it advanced, or keep your feet on the ground to make it more Beginner/Intermediate. Or add arms to make it more advanced.

So can we make ICE more/less advanced if needed or desired? Just curious as to why ICE is specifically noted as Intermediate.

Thanks.

As far as exercise goes the word "Intermediate" means different things to different people. Sure, you can always change the intensity of a weight workout by lowering or raising the amount of weight lifted or change how hard a cardio routine is by staying grounded to lower the intensity or adding jumps, step height or arm movements to accelerate the heart rate. This is what is done by most exercisers that work out in Gyms, like ours, where there isn't a modifier showing modifications next to the instructor.

Still, an exercise routine is more than just selecting a series of exercises out of a hat and putting them in any order you like. One of the things that makes Cathe special is how she constructs a routine so that the heart rate stays in just the right zone or you feel the burn for just the right amount of time. We call this - Synergy.

Synergy is a skill that takes years of practice and teaching classes to truly master. From this experience Cathe has learned which moves work for people with different abilities and fitness levels as well as how to link moves in just the right sequence to have the desired effect. Defining a workouts intensity by weight lifted, sets, reps and volume is only part of the story as synergy also has to be considered. .

So back to your question... Cathe has selected exercises for the ICE series based on her 30+ years teaching experience that she feels are doable by most intermediate exercisers and has arranged them in an order with the appropriate rest periods that she feels will work for the average intermediate exerciser. The magic is in the "Synergy"!
