Please explain weighted vest...

Yes, you could always add weight to the bar, but how are you going to be able to lift it over your head to do a squat? When doing exercises like a squat or static lunge you have to lift the bar over your head to get the bar into position to do these exercises.

Since your lower body is usually quite a bit stronger than your upper body, you are limited in the amount of weight you can use for the lower body by your upper body’s ability to lift the bar over your head. The vest simply reduces the amount of weight you need on the bar to do a lower body exercise. Thus, you can use a heavier weight for moves like the squat and static lunge.

Thank you, Cathe and SNM, for the weighted vest idea. I have trouble lifting more than 40 lbs of the barbell over my head now. And I do get nervous with no spotter. I also get nervous about hurting my shoulders during the lift, and I struggle to not arch my back to get the weight up.

I think the weighted vest sounds like a great investment! I'm going to wait and order one though until I see the new fitness line by Cathe and STS itself.

Have a great day!

I too like the vest idea. I think it is also safer from a body mechanics perspective. The weight is obviously carried differently, and therefore there is less risk for strain on shoulders and back. And, because the weight is centered, along your body, rather than "floating" on the sides on a barbell, the move is that much safer for you. I love this idea!!

I’m sure we will carry the lighter ones, but we will probably leave the 40lb vests to the stores. It is really hard and very expensive to ship online a product weighing this amount.
