Pilates question

I have had a sore back for a few weeks but it is slowly getting better with rest and meds. I think I hurt it running(too much too soon and improper form). I decided to just walk fast for a few weeks and start pilates. I have done pilates once and loved it. Well, my question is would I see results by walking 5x/wk and doing pilates twice a week until I can start back on wts? I am trying to lose about 15 more lbs, I've already lost 15lbs recently. I want to make sure I am exercising enough but I'm scared I'll hurt myself again. What do you think?

IMO if you have a back injury you should stay away from pilates. The main focus of pilates is the core, meaning most of its exercises involve the lower back. You'd run a high risk of re-injuring yourself if you make this the staple of your workout.

Can you start back on weights by doing light weight/high reps? Have you asked your dr.? I'm sure she/he could provide more insight than we could.

while i do agree that pilates is a great rehab for the back, i would first get medical advice b/c as lauramax has mentioned it does require a lot of back,as well as ab,strength and to much could cause you to re=injure your back.once your back is healed you can look up a variety of workouts targeted for weak backs. like stotts(as mentioned above) and i think winsor pilates has one too. i would also include more overall core(abs, back, hips)training in your routines to strengthen the weaks areas.
