I've been doing Cathe tapes for a little over a month now and I love them!! Does anyone supplement Cathe workouts with Pilates? I saw an infomercial for the Windsor Pilates tape series and am wondering if all the hype is really true.

Hi I used to do Pilates more than I do now. When I was doing it regularly I lost an inch off my waist line. It is really great if you want to feel completely stretched out. I was doing The Method All in One Workout which is a warm up, cardio with weights , and then the abdominal centering segment which was the actual pilates, the tape was 90 min. long. Sometimes I did just centering with the warmup, the aeorbics is really dance moves like with ballet, the warrior stance, and things like that. I enjoyed it but my heart rate didn't really go up alot. I have not tried Winsor Pilates because in my opinion alot of the moves are the same in all pilates type tapes. You come away feeling thoroughly stretched and relaxed. Hope that helps, if you want to try it it can't hurt and it would be an easy day as far as the cardio goes, compared to Cathe.

My favorite pilates tape is Living Arts Pilates - Intermediate. It's about 30 minutes long and is a fast paced tape. I also have The Method's Precision Toning, which has a couple segments. I've tried the All in one workout and only really liked the ab section- it is very tough and gives you a good core workout.

I sometimes do Pilates on my "rest days". They provide a little more for my abs and I don't necessarily feel like I've "worked out" because I don't get the "sweat factor." I like Karen Voight's Pilates workouts.

I've been doing mat work for several years & feel it's an important part of my fitness routine. Both for core strength & flexibility. It's much tougher than it looks, & like yoga, you get out of it what you put into it.

If you've seen the Winsor infomercial & you liked her personality, go for it. There are lots of good basic pilates videos, you just have to chose one that fits your personality. I think Stott's instruction is terrific but many find her too dry. Voight's videos are more pilates inspired than classic pilates, but they're fast moving & she's perky. I think she neglects fundamentals, but you'll still get a good core workout.

If you can, attend some mat classes after doing a video a few times. The movements are so small & often internal, that it's really difficult to perfect your form without a live, experienced instructor.

You might want to do a search for Windsor or Winsor pilates on the Cathe site because I know others asked about the videos in the past.

I bought this video kit and ended up returning it. I enjoy yoga so I thought I'd try pilates. Some of the moves really worked your core, others seemed ineffective. I found the video to be slow moving, yet she didn't give enough time to really do the moves. Right after I'd start to feel the burn, she'd move on. I think you should just get a single (and cheaper) pilates video and see if you like it first since most of the moves will be the same.

Another thing I remember thinking was when we'd be doing some moves, I'd think "I could be doing ______ (crunches, weighted leg lifts, etc) and be getting a better workout." So I felt like I wasn't getting the best workout doing these videos.
