For the Chest and Back Heavy and Slow Workout Series, you will need various weighted dumbbells. Maximum strength gains will be achieved by going through a series of exercises, performed in a uniquely slow and concentrated manner to eliminate momentum and thereby allow for maximum muscle fiber recruitment.

The workout begins with a warm up and then immediately starts off with chest work. You will do classic exercises starting off with slow sets of dumbbell bench press and then move right into slow sets of dumbbell chest flys. After you have completed the flat sets, you will repeat the same exercises in an incline position to recruit chest muscle fibers from a different angle. Then you will have an optional slow set of push ups to perform. Note: While these exercises may not seem like anything new or different, just wait and see how the heat builds up in the chest region at this slow and focused speed.

Next you will continue with Back work. You will do slow sets of two arm dumbbell rows in a table top position to engage the lumbar region as well as the upper back and you will also maintain a retracted scapular region to engage the postural muscles. Next up are pullovers and deadlifts. These two exercises will also maintain a scapular retraction to encourage good posture. This portion of the workout concludes with lower back. You will do the superman exercise to strengthen the lower back and continue with prone, supine, and reverse planks to strengthen the entire core region. You will complete the workout with a soothing stretch.

Remember the overall effectiveness of the Slow and Heavy Series is not so much WHAT exercises you select but rather HOW you perform them. Get ready to get FOCUSED!!!

I'm so glad I pre-ordered too! I can't wait, especially for S&H as I am so interested in that workout. And I LOVE those green tops!

Ankle weights?

Are those ankle or wrist weights that I see near Cathe's feet? Or could they be ingenious new torture devices that we will all grow to love?
I am SO looking forward to these new tapes!!!!! :D

I'm trying not to get too excited about these videos yet. It will seem torturous to wait until August for the DVDs. I'm sure it will worth every minute. :)

I also like the outfits(wow, what a surprise huh?). And I know
I'm alone on this, but I like the step also. Boy Cathe, my DH isn't going to be liking you after my shopping spree ;-)

RE: Ankle weights?

I think it is just the way Cathe's flare bottomed pants cover the top of her shoes...
These tapes look so GOOD !

Hello Cathe!
I was just wondering how much those 2 huge dumbells weigh on the right side there...compared to everyone else, you look like you're leaving them in the dust in poundage!!
Just Curious,
Myra :)

Sorry...didn't mean to post twice!

RE: Ankle weights?

Hi Kay! Yes, those little round grey objects near my feet are wrist and ankle weights. They are there as an OPTION to increase the intensity of the Superman lower back exercise.

Cathe,

Just curious??? What kind of step is that? I have never seen one with such thick risers.

Hi Myra! We all used a wide variety of weights for these workouts. Generally the larger muscle groups had a heavier weight spread than the smaller muscle groups. I can't exactly remember what weight that is by my feet but I will be mentioning the weight that I am using in the series and also encourgaing you to select a weight that is appropriate for your current fitness level :).

Sounds GREAT!!

Cathe, the workout sounds fantastic! I can't wait for those DVDs!

I also LOVE the green tops....I just bought a lime green top very similar to those, only mine says ProRobics (Kari Anderson's club) on it! I got it on the Kari trip there last weekend. :)

I also have an orange top similar to the one you wear in Rhythmic Step....so now I can match you guys while I'm working out and really feel like I'm part of the "crew", ha ha!

OK, so I'm weird....but I'm just excited!

Renae
