Peticure--has anyone tried this?

I'm intrigued. I have 2 squirmy little dogs & I get so nervous when I trim their nails--I'm afraid of hurting them. But their paws are more like claws (I think this is a small dog thing b/c they use their paws more than large dogs) & sometimes they really hurt me! This looks like just what the dr. ordered.......errr what the VET ordered......but whenever I buy some "as seen on TV" thingy it always turns out to be a piece of crap. Before I shell out the $30+, can anyone give me a review?

LauraMax .. I have never tried that ... I Googled it .. looks interesting.. but IA .. I never have much trust in "as seen on TV" things ....

I do my big dogs nails .. and the smaller dogs .. w/a nail trimming tool .. you can get at a good Pet Store ... (I worked for a vet a LONG time ago and learned there)

You do have to watch the blood line in the nail and make sure that you don't cut too much .. if your dogs have black nails this is tricky .. I am lucky my babies have clear nails and the blood line is easy to see.

Laura - I've seen this too and was interested in it. We currently use the Dremel drill on all of our dog's nails and besides the dust, it works great! We put it on a low setting so it doesn't make much noise and they are all used to it now. You can get a lot farther down safely and if you hit the quick at all, it's not a big deal because you aren't cutting into it, just "reaching" it. I just hate all the wiener dog nail dust that you get from it.

Hmmmm maybe I'll try that dremel........I looked at some peticure reviews on other sites & they said it's similar to the dremel except the quality is crap (as I suspected). And the peticure is more expensive.

I'll just do it in the backyard so I won't have to worry about the dust. Not weiner dog nail dust, pug nail dust. ;-)

Laura - My Dh does it outside and he wears one of those little white dust masks. :) I have a hilarious picture of him doing Dakota's nails. I'll have to dig that up.

We also use the Dremel for our weiner dogs as well. Our dogs are not a well behaved as yours though Liann. Sometimes DH and I come out looking like we've been in a bad cat fight or should I say weiner dog fight. :p Sometimes when they are being really bad we'll just give in and take them to the groomer. For some reason I've always been really squimish (sp?) about using clippers.

Gayle-We do use the Dremel sandpaper attachment.

I was looking at this too. If you already have a dremel you can buy just the attachment. Be careful using the dremel by itself if you have dog with long hair (I have Shih-tzus)as the hair around the toes will get caught and yanked out. That's why I was considering this tool.

I have a weiner dog and nail cutting time is a nightmare! Everytime, I cut one or two too short :( We took her over to my inlaw's for christmas and I thought I better trim her nails before we go. We get there and she started bleeding all over the place! I had to find some flour to put her paw in, it was totally embarressing.

I will try the dremal. I think my problem is I wait too long in between cuts and I can't go as short as I would like.

Gayle - Yes, we use the sandpaper attachment. :) We use the fine one, not the heavy grit one.

Chastity - LOL at your experience with the wieners! Luckily, ours seems to take it in stride. Now giving Dakota a bath is another story!

jdawnc - We often wait too long too. For Montana, a week is too long. His nails grow like crazy! His quick grows out really far too, so if we were to clip, we would always be cutting into the quick. With the dremel, we often hit the quick a tiny bit, but it never bleeds more than a tiny drop and he never notices. We just cannot get his quick to recede.
