Pet or Allergic SO? -- opinions requested

RE: Hugs!!!

Thanks for your kind words, Heather! You are such a sweatheart!

I am a little stressed out, but I also have a lot to be grateful for, so in the big picture, I shouldn't be complaining!

The dog is Scooter, my Mini Australian Shepherd. I actually have three of them. Don't know if you still find them adorable, if you check my picture trail and see the pics on "oh what a mess"}(

Take care,

Carola

RE: Hugs!!!

What I appreciate so much about these boards is that folks can disagree so respectfully! Thanks again for your responses...
I know you guys don't know the individual players involved, which certainly impacts your ability to speak to a particular situation -- I was just looking for some general feedback on what you might do (or have done) in a similar situation. Thanks again! It's good to hear from all persepectives.

Glad You Are Cleaning!!!

Carola:

Yes, they are still adorable, but that is only because you are doing the laundry and not me! ;-) LOL! :7

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Hugs!!!

Cathy,

I hope the situation is resolved sooner rather then later. If they are serious then it needs to be taken care of pronto!

Best wishes to them!

Here are a couple of suggestions I have heard about for helping shedding of hair, and therefore dander.

Sardines in oil. For the dog.....:) depending on how big a dog we're talking about, maybe a tin (is that the proper word for what they come in?) every day or every other day.

Cool water baths every other day. Cool water only, no soap or shampoo at all.

Brushing outdoors frequently.

As far as what he or she should do, if he won't do any of this stuff to make her stays at his place at little easier, than that would tell her something. I also wonder where that dog has been for the past year and why would he ever move to a place that would not allow him to have a dog in the first place. Honestly, I see these excuses all the time (I do Great Dane rescue), allergies and moving. I have come to the conclusion that some people are just unable to bond right with animals. It seems that the boyfriend here is choosing a strange time to bond.

AFAIC - love me, love my dogs. They were here first, they will probably be here longer, and they are GRATEFUL!

What you lacked in health your heart and soul more than made up for. RIP my good friend Thor.

In addition to Hepa filters, more frequent bathing of the dog and control of dog hair (maybe even getting a special pet vac with a Hepa filtration system), etc., there are special sprays and shampoos that can help reduce the allergy-causing danders on pets' fur. They don't even need to necessarily be bathed, just wiped down with a cloth wetted with the spray.

I definitely don't think the guy should have to get rid of the dog, but he could be more understanding and help find a solution that dog and man and woman can all live with.

My stepmother has a woman renting a room from her, and the woman is allergic to cats. My stepmother has 3. As long as the woman keeps her own room clean and doesn't pet the cats (she does with her foot!) she doesn't have problems.
