PET ALLERGIES: Miele, Sebo, Dyson....??????

Calling all proud vacuum owners:

Although I am allergic to pet dander, I love my 2 kitties too much and will happily suffer a few sniffles for them. BUT, I need to buy a vacuum cleaner that truly "sucks the life" out of my floors and gets all of that nasty dander out of them!

I've been looking at the reviews and descriptions on a ton of different websites (www.allergybuyersclub.com is a great info site!) and am willing to pay several hundred dollars to get a machine that will perform and last for many years down the road. I'm leaning toward the Miele cannister models, but am looking for feedback from any of you who have one of these (or another model that you adore and swear by). A central vac would be ideal, but we don't own the house we live in and I'd rather stick with a cannister. We have hardwood, vinyl, and indoor/outdoor carpet downstairs and (unfortunately) mostly carpet upstairs. We do have an Oreck upright that seems to work pretty well on carpets, but I want a vacuum that does it all (attachments and everything!).

If anyone can give me any advice or feedback, it would be greatly appreciated! My allergies are very managable during the summer with the windows always open, etc., but I'm dreading the winter months without a good vacuum . . . .

Thanks!
Zora :)

Every pet owner with allergy problems that I know SWEARS by the Dyson. My mom would never part with hers.

I'm saving for one at the moment!

We have 4 dogs and 1 cat inside, I bought the Miele Canister last week and LOVE it. It is fairly quiet and sucks up all the hair and dander in my carpet. We mostly have Pergo and Tile, but carpet in the bedrooms. We had a Kenmore Canister before, it wasn't bad but no comparison to the Miele.

I bought the Miele "Silver Moon" with the power brush, if you have carpets and allergies I would definitatley get the power brush, it works great! It also has adjustable power, on the highest level it will suck a whole page of paper in.

I used to sniffle and sneeze all the time when vacuuming, not anymore, the Kenmore supposedly had a Hepa Filter, but I would still sneeze everytime I vacuum. The Miele wasn't cheap, I spent around $ 800 on the floor model, but it was well worth it.

The added bonus was that my 10-year-old DS is totally impressed with the high tech look of the vacuum and volunteers to vacuum :)

I heard the Dyson works well too, however, I prefer canister.

Good luck!

I have to go w/Dyson too .. hands down! The purple one is "the Animal" .. made especially for household w/pets ..

I have the original yellow one .. and could not be happier! GREAT investment!

I have tile, hardwood and carpet .. and it is perfect on all of them .. I don't have allergies . . but my dogs do (go figure) .. they are allergic to DUST!!

When I made the switch to the Dyson .. it made my house 100% dust - fur etc cleaner .. no smells .. no filters to buy and change .. it has one filter that you wash out every 6 months .. that is it .. LOVE IT .. love it ...LOVE IT!!:D

I've heard good things about the Dyson, but isn't it a bagless vacuum? I understand the convenience of a bagless vacuum, but aren't bagged vacuums better for allergy sufferers in terms of changing bags vs. dumping the "bin"?

I think my main problem is that there are just too darn many models to choose from! I want the vacuum genie to just appear next to me at my computer, point to the right one for me, and *poof* make it all so much easier! :)
