Peroneal tendinitis anyone?

Well, damn! On top of my recently diagnosed GERD, now when I get up in the morning, my ankles are in excruciating pain. Being a vet and into diagnosing myself:p, sounds like peroneal tendonitis - it is concentrated on the outside surface of my ankle on both legs.

Guess what induced that? BBL!!! I had horrible DOMS and really suffered from the first workout (I've been on somewhat of a workout hiatus since Thanksgiving). Perhaps did too much too soon. The ankle pain ensued about 2-3 days later. I was so painful at 1:30 this am that I almost passed out. Miserable.

And with the GERD, taking advil is a no-no....what's an old woman to do?

Going to the dr. this am for an official diagnosis from a "real" doctor, but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this ankle pain before.

I have to get over this because in June we'll be hiking about 8-10 miles a day in Yosemite - yikes!

Heide, Good Luck this morning at the Dr's....

Just curious,....do you wear orthodic's in your shoes? many years ago, I worked for a Podiatrist. From what I recall, this was the most conservative treatment option before turning to more serious options like surgery.....yikes!

From what i understand.... Peroneal tendinitis is caused by excessive stress on the heel of the foot. Clearly, I'm no expert.....but maybe, ask your doctor if orthodics would help. Keep us posted.

hey heidi, i feel your pain. i was also just diagnosed with GERD. and i have tendonitis in my heels. it is a real pain. literaly. LOL! i have to be real careful w/cathe workouts cuz they definitely increase the pain in my feet. my gastro dr. told me if i have to take something to see if my dr. will give me celebrex.

and, how funny !!!!!!!!!!! i work for an equine vet and before i was diagnosed w/GERD, i was talking to him about it and he was telling me what he thought. i said, can i tell my dr. your diagnosis? and he laughed and said. well, md's don't really like vets giving their patients medical advice. :) oh well, i ask him stuff all the time. horses and humans can get alot of the same stuff.

let me know if you find any relief, cuz i am always trying to find relief from my aching feet.

Thanks for the replies - I do wear orthotics for plantar fasciitis and, honestly, my PF has been absolutely fine. NO heel pain whatsoever now. It's all on the sides of my ankles, not on the bottom.

Cathy - too funny! My DH is an equine vet;) And, you are right, there are many similarities with animals and humans - some of the same disease and medicines are virtually identical. So, a little knowledge is dangerous, lol.

I'd say one of the main issues in which dogs/man diverge is that of foreign bodies. I doubt many MD's are surgically removing rocks, tampons, and underwire bras from their human patients:eek:

I've actually had clients tell me that they *wish* I was their dr. Apparently vets have more "bedside manner" and will talk to their clients vs. nurses, and we call back with labwork within a day! Oh, that and it doesn't take weeks to get into your vet like it does an MD. Just repeating what others have told me!

Dr. confirmed GERD today and gave me a buttload of Nexium type of samples. Going to do stretches for ankle for now, wear supportive shoes with orthotics, and.......unfortunately, no BBL for now...there goes my Brazilian butt, I guess. Drats!

I have peroneal tendonitis in my right foot. It's under my ankle bone, on the side of my foot, and when it is at it's worst it feels like I'm walking on a broken bone. My doctor prescribed orthotics for my shoes...I can't remember specifically which ones, but I can check if you're interested.

I have plantar fascitis in my left foot, so I have some fun feet issues for sure! They both get far more irritated when I run...doing Cathe workouts doesn't affect them nearly as much.

heidi, what is BBL?
jamie, i have that too. LOL! just fallin' apart in my old age.:)

heidi, where are ya'll? i am in s. texas. your hubby may know my vet. his name is robert ball from san antonio, tx. he is the best vet in the world. i wouldn't take my horses anywhere else. and he has the best bedside manner of any vet, dr., that i have ever known. he is so patient w/even the stupid horses and people and just treats everyone w/the same respect, no matter who they are. he is also a great boss, which is rare. his wife is the kind of office manager/bookkeeper. and , she is a sweetie. we all love working there. they are very wonderful people.

anyway, i am taking kind of a recovery week this week, so my feet are doing better today. i did stability ball yesterday and heavy upper body today, so my feet got a break. are you a small animal vet? how do you ever even have time to workout? dr.ball and debbie are at the clinic all the time. i dont' think dr. ball sleeps. we are always kidding him, cuz he outworks 3 techs in a day. LOL! makes me feel like a reall wimp, cuz we are the same age.
anyway, sorry to babble. fun to talk to people who you have stuff in common with

oh yeah, and, orthotics is definitely what helped my plantar faciatas, and for the tendonitis, try the Z-Coil shoes. they are really ugly, but man, when i put them on my heel pain goes away. i think you can google them. i've had a pair for over a year and i always wear them to the barn, cuz i do alot of walking and they really help my feet.

i just did step n' motion. is that the correct name? the one that was a $4.97 download. it is basic step, easy to follow, but still hi energy and got a great workout w/out killing my old feet.

the hair and outfits are, um, how do i say this, very 80's, LOL! but, i love the workout. anyone else download this one
