Pentengenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/8

Hi everyone--

This morning I did AB (54:00).

Judy, no, DH only sells locally. How do you like STS total body? I think I sold it because it struck me as being very equipment-heavy, and then you hardly used the bench and the tower after a few chest exercises.

Turkey bacon?! Sacrilege for DH and his customers. Does not taste like real bacon. Real bacon, not store bought, has hefty bits of meat in it. Really--store bought bacon is a completely different thing I know now. DH's bacon sells out so fast that I have to remind him to set aside some for when I make Ina's Boeuf Bourguignon. She starts her recipe with bacon cut into 1/2 inch pieces and then sautéed, but not too long. You put them back in later when you add the wine and begin to braise, but the beef chunks are browned in the bacon fat. Adds so much flavor and depth.

Deb, those are great cars I have heard--reliable and good in snow. I like sitting higher, so I have really enjoyed my Honda CRVs. Highlights really add body to my very fine hair, but I do use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner--Kerastase nectar something.

Valerie, yum, I love pumpkin pie. Wish I could make a decent crust.

Josie, that sounds like a wonderful party for your dad.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. We will be going out to dinner on Sunday. This is homecoming weekend for Williams, so Saturday is a definite no. We have had some bad restaurant experiences with my birthday coming so close to Homecoming with arch-rival Amherst. Drunken diners who started with the tailgate and just kept going. Rowdy and rude.

ttfn

Congrats Deb. we have a '14 Outback and an '04 Forester. Recent Consumer Reports talks about how all AWD is not the same and about how superior Subarus are.
My only complaint is seat belt chimes are intrusive. Older vehicles are fine but the '14 Outback is hard to take. Maybe it's all new cars. also, shouldn't have gotten black cloth interior as we eat popcorn in the car.

Good evening ladies!

Today was a great workout day. This morning I was energetic so I did one I made up using the workout blender...started off with X10 warmup...then the following ...x10 low impact, To The Max tabata's, Cross Fire Tabatas then cool down. At lunch no one was working out so I did a SB class. An advanced one she recorded teaching a class. One of my favorites.

Deb...yeah congrats on the new car! I love Yankee Candles but they can be so expensive. I think $28 for the large. So when I have a coupon around the holidays I stock up. I have another coupon that expires the end of the month that I will use too. They make great last minute gifts!

Judy...no wind here today just rain. STS total body is a great workout. I am looking forward to doing today's Live Strong Total Body. Plan to do this one on Saturday. I only buy the Yankee Candles when I have a coupon or they are on sale. Just too expensive otherwise.

Josie...your party sounds so lovely. What a great thing to do for you Dad. Then all the memories written down. So very sweet. You are a good daughter.

Valerie...the low impact hiit from xtrain is really great. Amazing how she works you. A mini workout is always good when you can fit it in. Tony Horton came out with the 10min Trainer a few years ago. All the workouts could be done in just 10 minutes! Not sure how much results you would get though if that is all one did! Happy Birthday to your DH!

Lynda...Happy Birthday! And plans? I love BLT's too and what you just discribed sounds delicious.

Have a great night all!!!

Lynda...not sure how I missed your post but I agree with you about the turkey bacon. As I mentioned school is still out. Not sure if I can make the switch! For Thanksgiving I paid my friend to make me a pumpkin pie. He he he he!!

Happy Friday...

I did one of the premixes from Flex Train yesterday, I guess the talk about it here gave me the idea....I forgot how hard that workout can be. The wind was/is so bad that we had to shore up our fence in the backyard...it starting to lean in...and that is scary. I don't know if we will be able to get someone here to fix it before the snow flies, but I guess I will try.

Judy, good job on the workouts, I like STS Total Body a lot. I hope you did not have a power outage.

Josie, so nice that the party turned out well and your Dad was happy...like someone else said, you are a great daughter. Nice memories for all.

Valerie, wow, high winds there too....it must be across the whole country...strange. I didn't even ask if the new car has a real spare tire or one of the "donuts" as we call those little inflatable ones. I agree, I especially think with the prices of cars today, they should give you a normal standard tire as a spare. I think they needed to make them lighter to meet all the government's gas mileage standards. I usually put on my seatbelt the second I get in the car, so I don't get that warning from my seat, but it does goes off when I have one of the dogs in the front seat, and forget to buckle the belt on it's own...I have to pull over to do the belt so it stops!

Lynda, like Judy, if your DH sold outside of your area, I would definitely buy his meat, including bacon! I would schedule the dinner outside of all the homecoming hoopla too. Thanks for the hair info....I think I am going to do a heavy conditioning treatment with coconut oil, and see if that helps.

Lori, I don't think I have ever purchased a Yankee Candle, just like to go in there and shop around and smell them. :). Wow that was a great mish mosh of Tabatas for your workout!

No track workout today, we would be blown off the track...probably a treadmill workout, maybe Cardio Coach.

Anyone have any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I forgot to mention that Tuesday was our Anniversary (8 years) so I think we will do something to celebrate this weekend. Depending on the weather we may go to Birmingham, MI and spend the day. We'll probably go to the Apple Store too to check out the iPad Pro as I think it is out now. I'm having second thoughts about getting that one since it's so expensive. If the price drops on the iPad Air 2 or the mini 4 I might get one of those instead and then DH will take my iPad Air.

Deb-fortunately we didn't lose our power yesterday. The winds here weren't as bad as forecast. I think western MI got the brunt of it.

Lynda- I liked STS Total Body. I really enjoy tri-sets. I loved the core workout with this one too. Very challenging.

Lori-that sounds like a great workout! I love using the workout blender.

Josie-that sounds like a wonderful party that you had for your dad. Like Deb & Lori said, you are wonderful daughter!

Valerie- I haven't tried the low impact hiit from XTrain either. I'll have to check it out.

Here's a couple of photos of Shadow I took this week. She was cold yesterday so I put her Christmas sweater on her. The other one is the new kitty condo that we got for them.

Have a great weekend!

Judy

Deb.. having fun checking out all the new car features? did it come with a CD player or has that been dropped? we call the mini spares "bike" tires. Do they include jacks anymore ? Best look and see what's in the back.

we back out of our garage into a tight turnaround, go up the driveway100 yards, get out open a gate, drive thru, get out to close the gate, and then drive off, I don't want the belt on/off 3 times in 150 yards in my driveway. same on the way in, except mailbox stop first. I don't want to "belt" until on the road. the '14 chimes incessantly at <10 mph. I have threatened to shoot it ! I can't back up to park, or back down the driveway with the belt on either. being short, I can't see behind me well unless I rise off the seat, which the belt won't allow. that's my sole complaint..... fantastic on snow and ice.

We didn't lose power either, wet and windy though. so I did 20 treadmill, 25 elliptical, 50 knee push ups, and core workout from flex train. I was looked at a couple unused workouts while on the equipment.

Judy, more adorable kitty pics!. so darling. Happy anniversary!
Josie, I envy your close family links. my family is beyond pathetic. I sounds like a lovely party.

unpleasant news accidentally yesterday. my brother now has ownership of our family home. his wife is listed as "owner" . he took over POA over our mothers last cash reserves by "coercing" her to sign it over to him a year ago, stealing the finds from where DH and I had managed them for years. I am Ok financially, didn't plan on much inheritance, a % from the sale of the house. now that is likely gone. the intent is I think to keep it all for him and his wife, cut my sister and me out of any inheritance. My sister is destitute. I was looking up something for her online and came across the tax record. I need to change my will, written 2+ years ago when things were very different. remove... him..... entirely. need to find someone else for health care POA for me too. I am sad and angry but not surprised.

I decided to reorganize my workout sheets after I couldn't find what I wanted yesterday. I don't remember STS total body either. I was surprised to see how much I used some older disks, lots recorded. .

Question for anyone... I'd like to reprint some older worksheets. (Deb, you sent me the x train ones a short time ago). I don't recall if these older workouts had worksheets, or a forum member compiled them and I printed them. I've been searching but not finding anything. Ideas?

Valerie, I have a few spreadsheets that have a lot of the Cathe older workouts. I will email them to you...there may be duplicates in different sheets. Just remember to print in "landscape" mode....:)

Hi everyone--

This morning I did all out low impact hiit with core 1 (48:33).

Deb, it's pretty gusty here today, but nothing like that. DH is outside with the big animal vet checking on his new calves and I'm watching them deal with the chute, the wind, swirling leaves, and somewhat skittish calves. DH and Max picked them up on Wednesday. He is so pleased that he didn't have to go to an auction this year, so these are all from a closed herd up by lake Champlain. The farmers had a bad year with hay and didn't have enough to winter over these calves, so DH really lucked out.

Lori, that sounds like a great workout you put together for yourself. I like Yankee Candle too and stop in around the holidays to get something aromatic and Christmasy.

Judy, congrats on your anniversary. Something special in Birmingham to see, do, or EAT? Shadow is adorable.

Valerie, I don't do any recording of weights, so I can't really help you on that. Probably why I never know if I am making progress or not. Some days I know that I am trying a heavier-than-usual weight and see if I can DO it. Your family sounds very trying. Do you even talk to your brother anymore? Given your sister's destitute condition, I would at least try to guilt-trip your brother into thinking of her when he just takes over everything.

Hi to Josie!

Lynda, I haven't talked to my brother since aug 2014 when I realized he was coercing/ stealing access to our mothers last funds. I didn't know about the house until yesterday. I am so disgusted. he doesn't talk to my sister anymore, doesn't talk to his own 2 sons. crap. some families are hopeless. I don't think he knows what guilt is. I am hoping this is a tax avoidance technique so they don't have to pay capital gains tax on the house proceeds if/when they sell it. then it is just up to he and his wife to do the right thing.
I record weights, especially after my inactive year. I like to see what move is next and the weight I last used.

Deb, thank you. I have to experiment with printing as nothing seems to work consistently. . I looked for worksheets thru the open forum but did not find what I wanted there. lots of 404.

ETA thank you Deb!. I didn't know worksheets existed for many of those. I printed them all. Trying to save them so I can access again if I need to, but does not seem to be working. would I need excel to be able to save them? I have Word but not Office.

Good evening ladies....

This morning I did Live Boxing minus the leg blasts. Had plenty of leg work yesterday. No workout tonight.

Valerie...that is terrible what your brother did. Nothing but greed here. So sad. When I am following a program I will record my weights. Otherwise, I just go with what feels good.

Deb...pretty windy here today but not to the extent you describe. I have had the urge to do Flex Train too! Lol! Some of the new cars do not even come with the spare donut. Just a kit to repair the tire. Curious to what you have.

Judy...Happy Anniversary!!!! Was 8 years this year for my DH and I too! I have no desire to upgrade to the Pro. I like the size of my Ipad, plus it is the Air2 so it is the most current. The pro does serve its purpose but I am very happy with mine. Funny how our DH's get the used and we get the new!!!!

Lynda...good for your DH not having to go to auction. Sounds like that would be such a pain and time consuming. I love Yankee Candles just not the price. I will admit though with these coupons I do stock up a bit with enough for the year. I very rarely burn candles in the summer mostly spring, fall and winter so my supply lasts. Not sure why I do this.

Hi to Josie!

Deb and Judy...I posted an updated Cathe Live description sheet on the forum today if you want to grab it. The subject is Descriptions. Someone was asking if anyone had such a list. Mine is very basic but it does work for me.

Have a great night!!

Good morning & Happy Saturday!

Nice day yesterday, I did a Cardio Coach workout, got my hair cut/colored, and we went to see a local string band at our neighborhood coffee shop last night.

Judy, The pics are so cute. :). I guess she doesn't mind having clothes on? Happy Anniversary! Have fun in Birmingham. What kinds of things are there? ...and Happy Apple Store shopping!

Valerie, that is horrible about your brother and SIL...why do people do those things? I could not live with myself... yes, the car has a CD player, but only holds 1 CD. My older (2008) had the capacity to hold 6 CD's which was nice. I don't think I have played a CD on my car yet at all. I use my phone which has a playlist of songs I have added in my car. John will probably do the same once he figures out how...LOL. I think if I had to do all that getting in and out of the car I wouldn't do the seat belt either and the "dinging" would drive me crazy. It does stop after a bit, I found that out when I had one of the dogs siting in the passenger seat and I could not pull over to click the belt in. Yes, you would need Excel to save the worksheets. I am surprised that you are able to print them without having excel...try saving the attachments on your PC ( to the desktop is easiest so you can find them easily) and see if you can print from there.

Lynda, good that your DH did not have to go to auction for calves. How many did he get? I'm like you...I used to record my weights faithfully, now I just pick up what I think will be challenging.

Lori, thanks for posting the updated Description list....that will come in handy if I do decide to get the Live option. Did you take the Live Boxing workout and remove the blasts? can you do that? or did you FF through them?

Hi to Josie,

Agility class this morning, then later we are going to dinner ( local steak house) using a gift card that I got for a retirement gift. I hope I can keep my eating in check!

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Not sure what the workout will be. Either the recent live total body or the express upper with sb tagged for a total body. Oh the decisions!

The Paris attacks are terrible. So sad watching the news. A very sad day.

Deb...my last 2 cars have had a CD player and I never used them. Not even to see if it worked! I too either listen to radio or playlist from my phone. Was easy to modify the boxing workout. All the blasts are at the end so I just skipped to the cool down. I find her live workouts are easy to do just sections to shorten the workout or to add on other ones to mix up. There is another live list on VF that is more detailed if you are interested. Have a great dinner. I love steakhouses!!!

Judy...meant to comment on Shadow. What a cutie. My son has a black cat named Luci and has golden eyes. I love black cats.

Have a great Saturday all!!

Our '14 outback has a one slot CD, my '04 has a 6. I don't do any long drives in my older car so I usually do radio. I'm not sure what our truck has. we buy Sirius. most times we're out of range, satellite is all that works. that's why we were working toward using the ipod and pod casts. it worked fine in the car. I like letting someone else pick the music sometimes.

Yes, seat belt chimes drive me nuts! sometimes I connect the belt behind me just to shut it up. sort of defeats the intent of seatbelts.

so sad for Paris. so sad that this kind of violence is an underlying, ongoing threat to the world. terrorism is like a world war, with no beginning and no end.

Watched Mandela, the long walk to freedom last night. a decent but not great movie. somehow it seemed flat. watchable, admirable effort, but not a repeater. we have the last section of Mad Men up next, but went on short wait when it got to the top of the queue and staying.

I have no idea if brother/ wife plan to give us a share of whatever is left when our mother passes. since they are doing her care, I am thinking they've decided they're entitled. maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I am removing him from my will and health care POA. I will likely outlive him anyway. not to sound cocky... he is younger but doesn't take care of himself. he has T2 diabetes for decades and is poorly controlled. I don't wish him problems, but he has poorly controlled blood sugar. bad events will eventually happen. He refuses to do what's needed. as an aside to his combative personality .... he cuts the seatbelts out of his cars because he won't use them. (has older cars)

Deb, I'll try that with the files. I "saved" them but whether I can access/ print ... we'll see. Thank you again. I sorted, cleaned the ring binder, put them all in sheet protectors. Much neater and easier to use.
I did burnsets ch,sh,ba, and core 1 yesterday. My workouts go much smoother if I see what exercise is up next, the weight I used before.

Judy, apple store shopping is dangerous!! Have fun!.

Hi Everyone,

It is so sad about Paris. I've been watching the news and reading about it. It makes it hard to enjoy anything this weekend, just thinking about all the innocent people that were killed.

Birmingham is a fun town to visit. The vet we go to is there also, they are a cat only practice that is open 7 days a week. It takes about 45 minutes to get there, but it's worth the drive, both for the vet and just to spend time there.

I'll post more later when we get back.
