Good morning,

Today I did a new Jari Love workout, that I won in a Give-a -way on line site of a friend of mine. There are 2 30 minute workouts or one combined one for 60 minutes. I watched the intro, not realizing that it went automatically into the long workout. AT the 38 minute mark, with no cool down is site, I stopped it, and just went to the cool down. It is all compound moves, which are very hard for me to do. I guess I could see using them as add ons, for the cardio benefit. You do get your heart rate up. She is very different, and I am not sure if I like her chatter.

Anyway, did about an hour of weeding and cleaning up the yard, am going to my brother's for dinner. Still feel strange going there on Father's day w/o my Dad being there.

Joan, I agree with you on your MIL, what kind of life is being bed ridden and in pain as well. Glad you could see your son, and that your Mom is doing better. How are you?

Cathy, Not sure if I could take the heat and dryness you have. We have pretty bad winter,s but usually beautiful spring, summer and fall. Yesterday and today have been wonderful, 78 degrees, sunny, low humidity. Perfect.

Last night I took DH out for Thai for Father's Day. He is his "dog's Dad"

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did most of Booty Barre plus Arms and Abs (approx. 60 min.). The darn thing kept freezing after about 40 min. and finally stopped entirely, taking me back to the main menu, where I chose the abs and stretch chapter of about 20 min. I am sending this one back to Collage, and I don't want a replacement. This one is brutal, and if you do the whole thing, 79 min. long. She should have some shorter premixes.

Deb, I have one Jari Love (some title with chiseled in it), but it's just a high rep workout and no compound moves. She's not one of my faves either but I did her once a week for quite awhile.

DH is haying today, because the weather is perfect, but we had Thai last night after the movie (I went alone to the film) which is truly magical. If you are interested in these cave paintings, you can see a lot of them here: The Chauvet Cave Art Paintings

I really felt like I learned a lot about the paleolithic period watching the film, and was really blown away by the 3-D in the cave.

Making some mac and cheese to go with our steak--DH's favorites.

This is the title.....and yes, she does lots of reps, same stuff around 4 sets of each, on each side!

Get Extremely RIPPED! Revved to the Max.

Good evening,

I'm feeling really good. Thanks for asking Deb. I'm going to get the additional tests but I really don't want them to start messing around and get me feeling bad.

I am starting STS on Monday. The second series, I don't want all the push ups from the first one.

I haven't weighed in a while but I feel a lot fatter.

Joan

Good morning,

I did not get up this morning, not a good nights sleep. I ate too much at my brother's and paid the price.

Joan, I like the second part ( Meso 2) of STS the best, Meso 1 was too fast and frantic for me.

Garance, mmmm, Mac & Cheese and steak, that was my dinner in NYC, with asparagus. Yum. BTW, how are those chicks doing? Is Max still guarding them? I looked at the link, what was the movie about exactly?

Valerie, I know a few people ( men) that are like your brother. They are very handy, and have whatever anyone needs when something needs to be fixed. Most though, have the space to have all this "stuff" around, live out in rural area etc, with a lot of room and places to store stuff. The ones on the TV show definitely have a problem. There was one guy who would not even throw out a piece of string.

Hi to Josie, & Cathy,

Take care,

Deb, I haven't been back to visit in a while. I should go this year but didn't in spring because we were wrestling with the FIL's passing. I hate to fly and I don't have much of a connection back there. we are not very close. plus, I don't imagine that I could go back there, all-powerful, and change things that have been building up for decades. I will go with low expectations. I've been told it's unlikely I can even stay at the house because it's so full of stuff. the spare bedroom is filled with "stuff", a drum set among other things. My brother has always been a little weird. he's about 11 yrs younger. he does a wonderful job taking care of our mother a job he could have blow off easily. but just when you think he's fine and normal he'll do something really off the wall and it makes you reconsider. I haven't seen him in 25 years. when I was back visiting many times previously, he was always out of town working so I don't know if I'd recognize him.

Jari Love always looks emaciated to me so I never tried one of her workouts. I keep thinking of food when I see her... please eat a sandwich, Jari... and that's not a good way to exercise.

Joan good luck with the testing. It's important to know exactly what it is so they can recommend appropriate treatment/meds, if any. If you didn't have any sxs then whatever you do must be working pretty well. Wish you'd take another look at meso 1 and do an easier modification and not worry about "on your toes". pushups seem to work such a large area. it seemed like meso 1 primed me for meso 2. Glad you're getting back on program.

Did 15 bike, 35 treadmill yesterday. it was still raining so we did a major basement clean up. lots of stuff will go to the dump. we always hang onto stuff too long thinking we'll use it again, and by the time we realize we won't, no one else will want it either.

Lynda, I'll be looking at the cave art. thanks for the link.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's TLC, both workouts with 1 lb. gloves (60 min.).

Deb, my Jari Love is Get Ripped and Chiseled. I agree with Valerie that Jari looks emaciated to me. The good thing, though, about this particular dvd is that she has two pentagenarians working out with her, and they look good. I am pretty sure I did it at least 15 times to get it down to $1 per workout. The film is about the discovery of the cave (named Chauvet after one of the cavers who found it in 1994), the extraordinary sophistication of the art, the way the cave is protected (no tourists allowed), interviews with archeologists, paleontologists, experts on Ice Age man, the new information provided about the animals roaming in that era (who knew there were ever bison, rhinoceroses, and lions in France?), extinct animals like the giant ice age moose. I thought one of the most interesting figures was the man with the head of the bison next to the nude lower torso of a woman. One of the experts then talked about the proliferation of these very early female fertility figures, where the legs (beginning from very wide hips!) attenuate to points, and how they are often coupled with minotaur like male figures. Seems the myth of Pasiphae was pretty early and pretty widespread. It was just fascinating. Of course, I love Herzog. Have written on him, taught some of his films, and he came here twice--the first time he was a year early (!), and when he realized his mistake, he came again the following year. A real character and great filmmaker. The first batch of chickens were slaughtered a month ago, so we are on the second batch. Now that DH is having these USDA inspected, they are being sold in local places as well as restaurants. They seem to be really well protected by the electric fence, but that might change later in the summer. Max likes to go off with DH to the hayfield these days.

Good for you, Joan, on starting STS again. I keep thinking I will, and then . . . I start to fret about all of the equipment to drag out. Maybe in August or as part of an all-Cathe rotation when she comes out with her new stuff.

Valerie, when are you going to see your mom and brother? Maybe you could persuade them to have a ginormous tag sale.

Hi to Josie and Cathy!

Good morning,

A trip to Oakville Ontario today, will make this a very long day. One of my co-worker peers will be here from Laredo, Tx today and tomorrow, he is going with me on the trip there.

Valerie, it's good that your brother takes care of your Mom, even if he is a little "weird". Yes, Jari Love is very thin, and she talks about how she was a "cardio junkie" during the intro. Not sure if she really gave that up like she says she did.

Garance, is the film a documentary? I'm with you on STS. I would love to start again, I know it would be good for me, but just the long workouts, all the equipment, makes me change my mind really fast. Are you still doing any KCM?

Well off to get ready to leave for another exciting day! NOT.

We did our regular 35 mile bike ride yesterday, and kept the pace high. I think all the mt biking has helped my leg strength, and I was riding much faster than earlier in the year. Felt really good.

today is a bunch of disconnected things. busy. yoga. routine cardiology appt return some boots to REI. visit aunt Betty in assisted living. and whatever else I can think of!.

Our utility sink in the basement popped open a hole in the bottom so we replaced it yesterday afternoon.
I was proud of myself for getting the dishwasher cleaned and working properly maybe 2 weeks ago but it's already showing signs of not cleaning well. I think the pump is dying and will not replace it like we did 5 yrs ago, and the DW is 10 yrs old now. so shopping for a new DW. recommendations? this was a kitchen aid and I probably won't repeat because of the service issues.

Lynda... loved the cave art pics. I've seen pics before but this is much more detailed. I will read some more when I have more time. will also go back to last weeks thread for the movie connection.
they are wise to protect them. every place I've seen with ancient art gets defaced by idiots with spray paint. or idiots with rocks. If it's accessible some moron will destroy it.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did both of KCM's Split Sessions for upper and lower body (60 min.).

Deb, yes, I did KCM's TLC yesterday, both boxing and conditioning, and today--look above. I have been doing both of these every week for quite awhile now. The Cave of Forgotten Dreams is definitely a documentary, but Herzog's documentaries are always artful, eccentric, strange. The Great Ecstasy of the Sculptor Steiner is probably my favorite. Grizzly Man is really a scary one that came out just a few years ago about a man who spent a lot of time with grizzly bears up in Alaska. He also has one about a volcano--La Soufriere--scheduled to erupt on Guadeloupe in 1976. They evacuated the island, but newspapers reported that there was one man who refused to leave. So of course (!) Herzog decided that he had to go to the island and interview this guy. I don't know how he persuaded a film crew to go there, but he did, and the film is just plain eery--animals wandering around, a shoe in the middle of a deserted street....

Valerie, we just had our pump on the dishwasher replaced. It, too, is about 10 years old and this is the second pump replacement, although the first one was under warranty. We just call the Appliance Doctor, who fixes everything and does house calls. Love him. You should see what Netflix has by Herzog. His fiction films are also wonderful--Fitzcarraldo, Aguirre, Stroszek. Chauvet is really well-protected--special walkways raised above the cave floor, access limited to scientists (Herzog somehow managed to negotiate with the French Ministry of Science to get permission to film in there, but only a few days and a very few cameras and lights). There's another cave with paleolithic paintings mentioned in the film that is now closed because tourists eventually were the cause of mold forming. Chauvet is a really beautiful cave--stalactites and stalagmites in strange and beautiful formations, animal bones that have been transformed by drippings into crystalline forms.

Well--I have gone on too long.

Good afternoon,

Monday was extra busy. DM took off stockings Friday after only a couple hours because she said they hurt her little toe. I wrapped them before we went out of town for the funeral. Unfortunately she unwrapped them while we were gone. Monday morning they were almost as big as before. I took her to OT to have legs wrapped again. We have at least 3 more weeks of 3 times a week. In the afternoon I took ds, Chris to airport. I was tired so went to bed early.

I did do disc 13 this morning. Once I get started if doesn't seem to matter if it's 30 min or 60 min. All my equipment is always out so it doesn't matter either.

Another round of testing tomorrow. I think they said this one is 2 hours.

Joan

Lynda, we saw Grizzly Man.... the guy was Timothy Treadwell and we'd seen some other films with him "cozying up" to grizzlies but it was still distressing to hear how he died. he had some remarkable grizzly footage, and also other wildlife... playing ball with foxes I remember most. We turned on the TV one night and heard one of those news briefs about somebody being killed in AK by grizzlies, and I joking ly said "maybe it was Treadwell" and unfortunately that was who it was. I will be looking for herzog & stick him in the queue.

Good luck with the testing Joan. I know the equipment all over is a PITA but I deal with it. it's a workout just getting it out and put away.

Good morning!

Just a quick fly by, I have to leave for work in about 5 minutes, will check in later.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Sweat Express II (57 min.).

Raining pretty hard here today.

Joan, I hope the testing goes well. What exactly are they doing to you that takes so long? Sounds like your mom is not the best patient.

Valerie, the thing that really bothered me about Treadwell is that he put his girlfriend at risk with his stupid decision to stay, so she had to die as well. I don't know if you remember, but I thought the best voiceover by Herzog was when he has a closeup of a grizzly's eyes, and he more or less says that there's nothing there, which is Herzog's way (nihilistic and totally Germanic) of saying Treadwell was delusional about grizzlies.

Trying to decide how to reupholster my loveseat--whether to change the look completely or repeat what I have enjoyed for so many years. Once it's reupholstered, though, no more lap time for Max (oh no)!

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick hello! I will be on vacation from June 24 through the 30th. I will have my grandkids over and will be busy with them.

Have a great rest of the week!

Josie

On a hiatus from exercising, not sure what is going on. I have no desire to get up in the morning to do anything. Well, it will have to change soon, my clothes are getting tight.

Garance, make the upholstery a slip cover so you can remove and wash and still have max on your lap!

Cathy, that's a lot of rain for one day! I bet it just soaked in and was gone as soon as it hit the ground.

Going to see the puppies on Saturday, they will be 4 weeks old. Probably a little early to tell anything about their personalities, but hey, they are cute so why not?

Off for more coffee, then to get ready for work. 2 more days.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Barre (55 min.).

Deb, this loveseat would be pretty hard to make slipcovers for because of the way it is shaped. I have made slipcovers in the past, but for a couple loveseats that were basically square. I would have to start all over and find someone around here who makes slipcovers. Why don't you just use your two KCM's (TLT and Split Sessions) as a 4-day split? Take off 3 days per week and do about 30 min. the other 4. Have fun with those pups!

Wishing for more raindrops to head your way, Cathy!

How is STS going Joan?

Hi to Valerie!

Took tuesday off exercise except for my yoga class at 7. it was a hectic day with appts and shopping & visiting my aunt in assisted living. totally full speed from 6 am to dinner. We did a hike wed that was Ok. went about 3 miles and had expected to do 2 more but there is too much snow yet and we should have brought our ice axes but didn't. we thought this trail would be OK by this time, but no. so 6 miles RT. when we got back to the parking area... by this time it was full with a trail repair crew and FS service vehicles, cutting blowdowns and cleaning up the trail from winter damage. there was a truck parked across from us...we'd seen the guy leave a little before we did.... He was from out of state. when we got back about 2, I looked, and looked again. both drivers and passenger front side windows had blown out. they were relatively intact lying on the ground next to his truck. Never saw anything like that before. at first we thought he'd been vandalized but we're not so sure, and all other cars were untouched. what a bad day he was going to have when he got back. it was warm & sunny maybe 75 nothing extreme.

I don't remember that particular scene from the movie but I don't know what anyone would expect to see? compassion? understanding? Treadwell was experienced but delusional, somehow thinking the rules didn't apply to him. When in bear country one has to be prepared. hope for the best but be prepared ( as best as possible) for the worst. We watch bears with binoculars from a distance but follow all the rules about avoiding encounters and carry bear spray when in grizzly country. Even if you do everything right there are still some risks. I still felt bad for him.... he obviously believed he was correct and that everyone else was wrong, and convinced his girlfriend the same. still a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Deb, do you exercise on weekends? maybe you could fit in a couple workouts when you don't have to get up early to do them, and then expand from there.

We're going on another 5 day weekend leaving saturday. DH doesn't appreciate how much work it is planning and getting 5 days worth of food and gear together and loaded. I will spend much of tomorrow on it.
