Good morning,

Well we had a terrible day yesterday, John went to do an errand, and he was in an accident coming out of the parking lot of the place. He is ok..thank God...the injuries he got were from the side air bag in his car. He was hit from the rear, and the other car ended up under the rear of his car...The EMT showed me a picture from her cell phone. All the air bags went off, and the driver side one really hit him hard. He was bleeding a lot so the fire truck guys at the site called for an ambulance to take him to the ER..they called me and I met him there. He has abrasions on the side of his face, and a small cut in his ear that needed a couple of stitches. The car is totaled and was towed to some collision yard. We will need to go there at some point to get stuff out of it.. We have no idea who the other people are, but they are ok...they were out of their car and walking around. I tried to get the police report yesterday after we got home, but they said it takes 24 hours. I think the policewoman at the station did not want to do anything...she was horrible, nasty and I can't figure out why.

Sorry for the long post, I am still reeling from this...we are so lucky that he was not hurt worse than he was.

Josie, great job on the workouts! I completely understand your trying to limit social media time.

Valerie, I will trade the numbers with you! LOL...my DR office desk person apologized all over the place, apparently the nurse that used to do all the orders for blood work left and her replacement messed up a lot of stuff....she said she is getting all kinds of calls from patients that went for blood work and the order was never sent in. Fasting is no big deal for me, and the place is less than a mile from my house...just the inconvenience. John has been riding the bike, he does some Paris ride, ( not sure which it is), and keeps adding on a few minutes each time. He likes it so far. I have not tried it yet.

Hi to Judy, Lynda & Lori,

I will be doing a lot of follow up today with police, and my insurance company. I am going to try to call the EMT service and see if I can get the person to send that picture to me.

Take care,

Oh Deb.. what an awful turn of events.... hope John feels better soon... but he might feel worse first... that must have been a heck of a jolt if it totaled the car. Was anyone ticketed for any violations? too soon to know? guess you will find out more from the police report when you can access it. was this your new subaru? unfortunate with an unpleasant person to deal with at the PD.... don't need another layer of difficulties when your day is already totally in the tank. that must have been a harrowing drive to the ER!

A lot of people would be very unhappy skipping breakfast and maybe their coffee.... getting there, and finding no orders. I know DH would be insanely mad, he really needs his breakfast. being hungry can be a migraine trigger for him .... and stable caffeine amounts. only a tiny bit but not "zero caffeine". I'm more like you, used to fasting/being hungry but I'd still be annoyed at having to get dressed and drive somewhere early for no reason, and then have to repeat the process an a couple days.
Check back in and let us know how things are going.

I did only therapy last night after some garden work yesterday. things are already budding out and coming up so we needed to get dead foliage trimmed off, raked. the winter weeds are prolific. we have close to a 12 month growing cycle here, very little dormant time for plants. a number of things blooming right now, hellebores starting, and sarcococca.
today we are going to do a road ride. planned this morning but it's pretty cold out so will go around 11-ish. most people will be watching the football game.

article this morning in business section about WW /Oprah and how poorly WW has done in the last few years due mainly to competition with other fitness devices like fitbit, and free food/activity logging programs . my membershop goes thru February and I won't likely renew. too many things still don't work and I am tired of trying to enter recipes on a very cumbersome program.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did CLB with Icy Core 2 (63:41). Deb, I know what you mean about those rotating side planks. I toppled over on the last one where you lift your leg in the air. I just started laughing because Max was so alarmed and came over for a big sloppy lick of my face.

How awful for you, Deb! That must have been quite a hit from behind if the front end of the other car ended up under John's car. You must have had a scary time for awhile, until you could see how bad John's injuries were. Accidents like that always remind me of how quickly life can change and how fragile we are. I'm so glad it was not worse and John will be okay. Deb, I did watch the first four Doc Martin episodes last night. I hope the therapy works. He does seem to be trying. Still cracks me up.

Lori, I loved CLB and I can see why it is one of your favorites. So much variety and it's really BOTH a weight and an aerobic workout. Amanda's mods really helped on this one, although I could do some of the jumping. I like this one better than To the Mat--just more fun. If you like vampires, you will love the Cronin books.

Valerie, I decided to go to Spotlight tomorrow because we are going out to dinner tonight--the Comfort Sunday meal has pulled pork sandwiches, which we both love. Also hush puppies, which I will have to look up, because I have never had one of those. Maybe Oprah will help WW, because she is definitely working as a spokesperson on TV for them and if she loses, it will probably bring back people.

I'm looking forward to DA tonight. I will record the GW which conflicts and is a new episode.

Hi to Judy and Josie! Josie, I think you would enjoy all of these ICE workouts.

Good morning ladies!

Deb..that is terrible. So glad John is ok and escaped serious injury. Sounds like it was a nasty crash. The car that hit him must have been gooing really fast to end up under the car. He is very lucky. I can only imagine what you are dealing with today.

Yesterday I did Cathe's Live Crush it Low Impact followed up with SB's newest Upper Body Core Circuit. The two of these together made a great workout. Later I plan to do Live RockmSockm. The backsplash came out unbelievable! I'll post pictures after I paint. Once this is done then I need to organize the kitchen. Crap is everywhere at the moment from moving everything around and out of the way.

Judy..I am the same way with rotations. So many workouts to do so it is hard for me to stick to a totation as it is written. I feel I always need to sub in a Live or a SB workout at least once a week.

Valerie...so funny to hear things are starting to bloom. We have a ways to go for that. I agree with Lynda about Oprah helping WW. When she puts her name behind something watch out!

Josie...I feel the same way about social media at times. It just gets too much at times. I hope Karina is well soon. That is a long time to be sick.

Lynda, looking forward to your review on Spotlight. I just had a pull pork sandwich for lunch on Friday. I never would have bought it but was talked into it and oh boy was it delicious! So cute about Max! Making sure you were ok. Cute.

Tomorrow I am starting SB's New Year Challenge witfbthe ladies. Hope they stick with it.

Have a great night all!

I'm back.... it was too icy to ride so we will do "indoor" instead. 45 degrees and sunny but shady spots were sparkly and slick. not going to take chances like that on skinny tires.
hush puppies..had them once and didn't care much for them. deep fried cornmeal "fritters" I guess I'd call them. I imagine there are a million variations and probably quite a range. I don't like deep fried things in general so I'm not the best judge.

I was hoping Oprah would give WW a boost. whatever channel the commercials are on, I don't see it. the WW site works better than it did in early Dec but it is a massive amount of recipe entry if you're a from-scratch cook. if you buy prepared food, it's probably on their list, but I don't, so every meal is an ordeal.

Good morning,

We went to get our things out of the car yesterday, and finally got a copy of the police report. Of course, John had no say in what was on there since he wasn't at the scene when the police finally got there...(about a half hour after it happened). In looking at the car, we still can't figure out what happened. I guess we will never know unless the insurance claim adjuster can figure it out. After seeing the car, we found that he was not hit from behind, but both sides of the car are caved in. I will post pics....how the other car ended up under the rear of John's car will probably be a mystery. I wish I had the pic from the EMT's phone. I tried to call there to get it but they were not helpful, were supposed to call me back after I spoke to 3 people. I don't think they want their EMT's involved in anything that could get ugly.

Valerie, I think you are probably right to quit WW when your membership is up, since it is not working like you would want it to. No, John was not ticketed, but the officer that we spoke to at the station ( he was also the one that did the report) said that since he did not see anything, he couldn't issue a citation, but he felt John was at fault. John did not have a chance to give any input since they had taken him away to the ER. Supposedly no witnesses..(??? there were a lot of people there)...If the police would have been there right after it happened, they could have gotten a lot of witness input....he was just lazy. It's a mess.

Lynda, how was the dinner? yes "The Doc" still has many issues...LOL I am really enjoying A Place to Call Home as well. We will have to find another series to watch while we still have our 30 day free trial! :), Will watch DA and the GW today.

Lori, can't wait to see the pics! Do you think the Ladies would like Roc'm Soc'm? Just to change it up a bit? I always felt that a kickbox workout would be fun in a group, but never did it that way.

Hi Josie & Judy,

Went for blood work again this morning, all went fine. Not much else here, the weather is horrible, we had lake effect snow last night, more windy and icy than any accumulation.

Take care,

Deb-I just now saw your post about John's accident. That is terrible! I'm so sorry that happened but I'm glad he is ok. That must have been so frightening for you to get that call.

Deb, DH and I have been either witnesses to crashes, or the first people on the scene numerous times. I think it's because we are up and on the road early, and we travel a lot by road. no one has ever taken a statement from us, or asked for our phone #. I'm usually the 911 caller. I've described what I saw happen, and we've waited until emergency vehicles arrived. no one was ever seriously hurt... just vehicle damage. I think as long as there are no serious injuries, the police let the insurance companies sort it out. unless DUI or stolen vehicle involved. It's hard to describe what you just saw happen. I always write down notes in case I need to provide more info days later, the time, location, kind of car etc. Of course, each person sees what happened only from their own perspective, and "it happened so fast" is so true. Fortunately John is OK and hopefully the insurance will settle and you can replace and move on.

I did CUB 30 min premix yesterday long with 15 warm up elliptical and therapy. I turned the music off. I emailed Cathe CS last night. I played it so DH could listen. he agreed, the music is WAY too loud on our system. maybe our player, maybe some bad disks? the workout is fine although it's funny to see cathe using 5 lb weights. I used what she used and I am a little sore today. I haven't been doing as much upper body lately.

Anyone watch the golden globes last night? we started but didn't last long. endless commercials, losing parts of the sound track. at first I thought they were bleeping out words, but it went on during commercials too. we didn't last long. some surprises .... The Revenant did well.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both of the low impact Sweat routines (46:13).

Deb, that sounds so strange about the car and the decision to make John at fault when he was the only one injured. I guess if it's no-fault insurance, they don't worry about doing a complete write-up if no one is significantly harmed and it's primarily damage to the vehicles. Were both cars totaled? My meal was delicious. First course was a pork chili with hush puppies, which tasted like corn bread. Second course was the pulled pork sandwich, and it was delicious. DH was trying to figure out what pig it was because it was especially flavorful and tender. I had to bring half of my sandwich home. I have 2 more episodes of DM to watch, but it doesn't look good for Martin and Louisa. Then it's on to A Place to Call Home.

I watched a bit of the Golden Globes. A lot of bleeping for bad language, and, of course Ricki Gervais was funny for his barbs at the expense of a lot of the stars. Some stars seemed a bit drunk to me--Denzel Washington surprisingly. The Revenant won for best drama/director and The Martian for best comedy--a lot of raised brows over how it was classified. Leonardo di Caprio and Matt Damon both won for their roles in these films.

I will go to see Spotlight today. It was up for some Globes but I don't think it won any.

How was The Hateful Eight, Josie?

Cold and blustery here today.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I subbed in a Barre and Band leg workout that I made from a few Cathe Downloads. I was just not feeling To The Mat. Us ladies will start SB's challenge tomorrow since it was a really busy Monday for the office. Everyone seems to be excited about it and we have a couple of new comers. Tomorrow morning will be interesting. I will be leaving the house at 3:30am to take DH to the airport. This will put me at work at about 5:30am. I plan to do CUB at work then shower and get ready. The heaviest weight I have at work is 12 lbs. I can't remember the weight I used for this workout but think this is plenty. Very fortunate we have a shower at work!

Deb...I hope it all works out for you. That entire situation really stinks. Very happy though that John is ok and no serious injury. I would love to do Rockm with the ladies. There is just one of them that would be against it and no one wants to hurt her feelings. When she is out or not working out I'll slip it in for sure!

Valerie...I'll be curious to see what customer service says about your dvd's. Felt the same way with these workouts seeing Cathe using so light. I feel so strong when I go alot heavier then her! :p Never got around to watching the globes.

Lynda...you describe your meals like Valerie describes her scenery when hiking. Both descriptions make me want to eat what you just ate then go hiking! lol!

Josie...I just saw the trailer for the Hateful Eight and I can't wait for your review. It looks really great. My DH and I like Tarantino (sp?) movies.

Hi to Judy!

Lori I did CUB yesterday and I think the heaviest I saw was 10 lbs. I did a premix .

I "sort of" did rock'em sock 'em. I picked a 30 min premix since I'd done therapy for half an hour. music was Ok for the most part although it's fast. I don't remember KPC being so frantic. I'm ok with the arm motion but when they start with feet, especially turning around, I get tangled up and just let it play while I side step.
then went to the core section. the music was awful and loud in parts. not all of it. I don't understand why some is fine and other parts are basically "ear plugs required". I did a good part of it, then stopped when I couldn't stand one more second, and turned off the music. I can't find a way to return to where I stopped on the DVD though, so this is a PITA having to FF back to where I was. I will play thru the rest of these disks but I'm not optimistic. I will also play the disk in our upstairs DVD player to see if it's our setup causing a problem. the music selection is screechy to begin with, but volume is unbearable.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did 2 ICE Muscle Meltdowns, biceps & triceps, and stretch max. It was very cold here today so I stayed home most of the day and got caught up on laundry.

Looks like we are getting another winter storm tonight. I think DH will be working from home tomorrow if it gets too bad out.

We had a crazy night last night. Around 2 am I woke up and heard something going on downstairs. I woke DH up and we found the water line to the furnace humidifier had broken and water was shooting out all over the basement. He was able to fix it pretty quickly but we had quite a mess to clean up. We lost a rug and a fold away bed that was in the basement but luckily nothing else. Those items were old to begin with. It could have been much worse. This is one time I'm glad that I don't sleep well. It could have been a disaster if we hadn't gotten to it right away.
On top of that, Shadow started sneezing last night so I called the vet this morning and they told me to give her 1/2 a claritin a day for a few days and monitor her. She is active and eating, so I think it's just a cold.

Deb-I hope everything works out with the insurance. So glad that John is ok.

Lynda-I like the Low Impact Sweat routines. Cathe really did a great job with ICE.

Valerie-Like Lori, I'm curious too about what CS says about your dvds. I agree, it does seem funny to see Cathe using lighter weights.

Lori-I agree about Valerie and Lynda's posts on hiking and foods. :)

Hi to Josie!

Judy

Good morning,

Windy, snowy, ugly weather...but hey, it's January.

Valerie, I agree with the "it happened so fast" comments, and if all air bags went off after the first impact hit, it is really hard to tell what went on. We will just have to wait and see what the adjuster says. Either way, John needs to get a car. I take it not all DVD's play loud on the same player that you are having issues with ICE workouts? No need to do those turn around moves in Rockm...sometimes I just do the same move and eliminate the turn. I would definitely play those disks in another player...hopefully Customer Service has some answers.

Lynda, your Comfort Sunday meal sounds wonderful ! The tow truck/collision owner believes both are totaled, no official decision yet. The other car was a rental. We only have the name, address etc of the other driver from the police report.

Lori, safe trip to the airport this morning, Will you be leaving work early since you will be starting at 5:30? ..I hear you on "not feeling" To the Mat. I don't think I will want to do that one again.

Judy, wow, good thing you heard that water and were able to fix it before it got really bad. Strange that Shadow is now sneezing...like Chino was. A cold. or is it some allergen that could be is bothering them? New perfume, cologne, soap, or air freshener you may be using?

Josie, how are things? How was that long ride you were doing this past weekend?

I have to drive John to work this morning, then shop for, and make the dog food today. Otherwise not much else going on.

Take care,

Deb, I've heard that insurance companies assign fault in percentages, such as one party was 40% responsible for a wreck, and the other 60%, mostly so they can efficiently tally up how much each company needs to spend. Fortunately John is OK and the air bags did their job. we've been in a few wrecks but never had bags go off. DH and I have been in a couple of bad wrecks and had several scary close calls but are lucky so far.

I keep reading the discussions about mammograms and how often we should have them. If all is OK this time...still waiting for some kind of report... I might switch to every other year. I'm sort of surprised insurance companies aren't jumping in and refusing to pay for annual ones.

Judy being a light sleeper has benefits!. I didn't realize furnaces could have humidifiers. when I lived in Wisconsin, we had a dehumidifier running constantly , winter and summer.
I'm sorry for being such a whiner about the ICE series. I was so sure I'd like it and never thought for a second that the music would be an issue. I know I did part of To The Mat before and maybe will re- look at that one today.

we are seeing a lawyer this morning to sign off on an updated will. I am ticked off with my brothers behavior over our mother's money and took him out of our will. it cost a few $$ and 2 trips to get it changed but I feel OK with that.

Valerie, I don't think you are being a whiner at all. I did notice the music being unusually loud on at least one of the dvds.
When we got our new furnace last year it came with a humidifier. Before I had 2 large room humidifiers running in the winter and could barely keep the condo above 30%. Now it's at least 35% with no other humidifiers. It was kind of a pain having to maintain the room humidifiers so this is much better.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did CUB with Icy core 1 (52:26).

Lori, your husband is lucky to have you up and alert for a drive to Logan. I would be in an absolute fog. I guess if I had to choose one of the new workouts I liked the least it would be To the Mat, probably because of those roll-ins, which, as Deb says, are good for me because I definitely feel them--but then I think, who cares about well-developed hamstrings? I thought I would alternate this one with CLB on Sundays, but now I'm thinking I will do CLB twice before doing TTM once. I'm pretty ambivalent about Quentin Tarantino. I liked his early ones. A lot of the time I watch his films looking for what he borrows from schlocky old movies. Sometimes I am just offended. I thought Django Unchained was cartoonish and insulting. He says he is stopping as a director because he is getting too old and directing is a young man's thing. Nah! Look at Ridley Scott, 77, and The Martian was brilliant. I won't hurry to see this latest one--3 hours long with an intermission. The 70mm film setup might be interesting.

I really liked Spotlight--reminded me of All the President's Men and what good investigative reporting involves--a lot of hard work and imaginative detective skills to piece everything together. Very much a Boston film. The film tries to show how easy it was for good people to look the other way, to ignore a systemic issue where the victims were predominantly from poor families or fatherless and mothers were often worshipful of their parish priests and only too willing to entrust their children to 'holy' father figures. The reporters are not without flaws, so it isn't just black and white, with easy moral indignation for the audience. The acting was really wonderful--an ensemble cast where no one in particular is the 'lead'. Lots of location shooting that helped to emphasize how much Boston is a collection of neighborhoods. And a whole variety of Boston accents instead of just one.

Judy, I really like the idea of a furnace with a humidifier. The winter months are so dry. It must have been quite a night for the two of you.

Valerie, I would be interested to know what CS says too. Given your issues, I think they should just ask you to return them for a full refund, and if they discover that they are defective, send you a new set. If they are like everyone else's, then at least you have a refund and the knowledge that these dvds are not for you.

Cold here but so far, no snow.

Ok, got my answer...

"The DVD is not defective. All the songs in the ICE Series are set at the same volume when they are filmed. However some songs may come in stronger than others, or have a deeper base sound, so you may just need to adjust a setting on your TV during this workout. "

so, end of that. .... I'll continue to work thru the disks and try them on a different (newer) Tv/DVD. on my system, it seems like the higher notes rather than bass are coming in too strong. I can only turn overall volume up and down, and so it doesn't get better. of course, I can do them with vocals only, like I've done already. since I bought them on presale pricing, I would be able to sell them, some or all, and get my money back. not decided yet.

Lynda, thank you for the review. I'm sure I'll like Spotlight, and I was surprised it got shut out at the Globes. I am not a fan of Tarantino. DH likes some of his. I did not get thru Django nor any of the Kill Bill ones. too bloody and brutal, and I never like any of the characters.
I've never been to Boston so neighborhoods and accents will be lost on me but I like investigative reporting stories.

a big part of my therapy is hamstring work. going to look at TTM for later today. I am having less problems with squat and lunge positions than a few weeks ago. still being cautious.

Good evening ladies!

It is amazing I am still awake. Woke up at 3:10am and we were out the door at 3:30. Got to work at 5:20am. I did CUB showered then got ready for work and was at my desk by 7am. At 1pm started SB's challenge and today was Lower Body Bootcamp. It alternated between tabatas and barre. Everyone loved it! Yeah!!! Success!!!

Valerie...while doing CUB on my Ipad I did noticed the music was really loud when we went to the mat. Never noticed this on my TV but wow it was annoyingly loud. I thought of you immediately. If you want to hear a Boston accent I need to call you!!!

Judy...wow! Yes good thing you are a light sleeper. That could have been a disaster! Very interesting having a humdifer with the heater. Oh no!! Hope Shadow is feeling better soon. Just like humans passing colds from one to another.

Lynda..thanks for the review on Spotlight. I'll get around to seeing it at some point. I never saw Django. I purchased the first book of The Passage Trilogy based on your recommendation. It looked great. It was tough driving him in this morning but I know he appreciated it. He usually brings me to the airport. Makes it so much easier not to have to deal with parking. There is something about To The Mat that just does not click with me. I may try it 1 more time but unlikely.

Deb...snowy here this evening. Glad I was already home and did not have to deal with it. Funny how some really like To The Mat. Not me. I felt it was just not fun. Hoping all this insurance crap works out in your favor.

Well it is almost 6pm and I think I am going to get ready for bed and read for a bit until I fall asleep.

Hi to Josie!

Good morning,

Well, it's Hump Day, I guess that's a good thing right? I have been slacking off and not doing any workouts this week, I just don't feel it. I think I am still feeling strange about the accident.

Valerie, yes, John was very lucky, I keep reminding myself of that, and try to stop the "what ifs" thinking. All we know is that the other car had to be doing sixty or more to cause that much damage to both cars. Anyway, it will all be worked out, sooner or later. I have read about the new thinking of doing mammograms every other year as well, also that the radiation is more of a danger than not doing the test... Not sure how I feel about that. Have you spoken any more with your brother about the situation? I would do the same thing you are doing. Have you tried using your own music with the DVD music off? Like you said, if you sell them, you could get all your money back, and maybe even more. I think TTM would be great for therapy work for you...no squats or lunges, lots of hamstring work.

Judy, how is Shadow doing? that is one nice thing about forced air heat, you can add a humidifier. We have hot water heat, so I guess its ok since it does not blow air into the house.

Lynda, LOL on your comment about who needs well-developed hamstrings...If I do To the Mat again, it will be one of the premixes, maybe the short one with just the band. Thanks for your review of Spotlight. It sounds like it will be a good one.

Lori, yikes, what a long day! I would need a nap after lunch. Love Boston accents. Would always smile when co-workers from Boston were on a conference call, or visiting. :). How was the first workout of the year for the Lunch Ladies group?

Hi Josie!

Not sure what is up for today, John has a meeting this morning with the CPA for the dog club. It will be the first time he has driven since the accident...he is a little skittish about it.

Take care and stay warm!

Deb, hope it gets sorted out quickly.

yesterday went to crap quickly .... had been to Costco, put away the load, prepped some vegies, into the oven to roast for dinner. DH was at the dentist having a crown replaced. got into workout clothes, did therapy with TTM in the player. the warm up and a couple brief moves when the phone rang, the dentist office. Did not go as planned. tooth was toast. he had to have it removed, on the spot. it was decayed under the crown and split and not sure what else. had already been root canaled. he ended up spending 3 hours there, and came home miserable. the dentist's office called ahead and warned me... so much for the workout! he is on smoothies/soft food for 10 days. will need an implant or a bridge. he has such crappy teeth and tries so hard to take care of them, but can't catch a break. he goes in every 4 months nothing he 'let go". Luckily I had some frozen stuff to make a smoothie for his dinner so at least I didn't need to run to the store in the rain. so TTM will maybe get revisited today. he slept in the lounge chair semi upright so is not swollen. This works incredibly well to prevent swelling.

Deb, I don't care much about music. I don't have any of my own set up.
Judy, hope shadow is coming along Ok. makes sense that what Chino had would get passed to shadow.
Lori, one issue for me is the clear floor space in our workout room is right in front of the TV. whatever is playing is right in my face. we have our equipment around the sides and back of the room for wall plugs and fewer cords. the TV is an old Sony , not a flat screen, a big picture tube one. Darn thing keeps on working.
