Good Morning,

I did Gym Style Back, Shoulders, & Biceps this morning. It felt good to do something since I have not worked out since Tuesday! The weather here is dreary and not very warm.

Today I have to go to a wake, My friend;s Mom passed away in her sleep Thursday, She was only in her 60's.

Garance:
What are your plans for today? Getting in a workout I'm sure since I believe Sat is your rest day. ( like mine except this week it was almost every day!). Did you get to see the Get Smart film? I heard reviews about it on Friday night. They said it was not like the TV show, that Maxwell Smart was not as goofy, relying on Agent 99 as much as he was on the TV show. Basically their opinion was that if you had not seen the TV show, you would like it better, than those that had. You will have to let us know if you agree with that.

Josie:
What special "treats" did you have on your day off?

Linny:
I hope you are at the lake having a fun "hive free" time!

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

I did Christi Taylor's Dance Fit (70 min.) this morning.

We did not go out last night because my older son and his fiancee stayed with us after attending a wedding. They were both pretty stressed from work-related issues, and needed some pampering. I did watch from netflix the Brave One with Jodie Foster on Friday night. Excellent acting.

So sorry about your friend's mom, Deb. Sounds like it was sudden and unexpected. Reminds me of my own mortality if she was in her 60s like me. The Tim Russert death was also a shocker last week.

It's been raining pretty hard here and just when I had coaxed my hanging plants back to life it sounds like we will be getting another dose of hail. I have taken preemptive action this time and brought them inside. All my other plants look okay, but the peonies were in full bloom and now look terrible.

A fist-bump to Josie, the tomboy! Hope you are hive-less in Hampton, Linny!

Good Morning & Happy Monday,

It's still dreary here.. it got nice yesterday later in the day. I hope the same thing happens today. It rains overnight, is dreary in the am, then the sun comes out. Kind of perfect..no watering needed!

Today I did an I-Tread and the abs from Dance Fit.

Garance:
Well my friends Mom was sick (Emphysema). She was a heavy smoker, and actually smoked while she used oxygen! I sure hope you didn;t get another hail storm. I have a ding in the hood of my car from the one we had last week.

Hi to Josie & Linny!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did Cardio Dance Fusion (45 min.).

It is dreary here as well. Last night was really quite scary. The thunder and lightning was deafening and blinding. The rain was going sideways for a bit, too. No hail, thank goodness, but I also put my hanging baskets inside.

Smoking AND oxygen?! That sounds dangerous quite apart from the emphysema. I stopped smoking with my first pregnancy. Best thing I ever did. I discovered that I did not need a cigarette in order to write.

Ditto on Hi to Josie and Linny!!

Hi Deb,Garance and Josie:

Came back from lake last night. No hives but I still don't dare go into water. My DH wanted me to drive boat sunday morning but it was only in the high 50's and I probably would have had a reaction. So he wasn't to happy. We did go to a baseball game saturday night.DSD had tickets and invited us to go.Was a good time.
Wow Deb and Garance you guys have had quite the weather. We ahven't had any hail but we did have a tornado watch yesterday afternoon.Scary! Its been raining most of the day,but DH and I were able to go strawberry picking before the downpour. So its strawberry shortcake for dessert tonite.
Deb:Sorry to hear about your Moms friend. We actually have a few patients that have been told over and over again not to smoke while wearing their oxygen. They go outside and try to hid their cigarette when nursing staff goes by.I think we should have a little roped off area for people that don;t care if they blow up while smoking.
Well I quess I'll start dinner.I'm making chicken piccata,DH and DS love it.Have a great night~Linny~

Hi Ladies,

I only worked out on Saturday, because on Sunday when I woke up it was so hot that I knew that the dunes was not a good idea. I ended just doing house work and laundry on Sunday. I did lay out in my back yard for about an hour and have a nice tan today.

The weather here hase been very hot and I feel very slugish. I will be getting a pedicure and manicure this evening. No work out.

Deb, I started my bad eating habits on Friday with my treats at Chilli's (triple play) which I shared, but it was still bad. Breakfast was good, but it all went down hill at lunch.

Linny, I'm glad that you did not break out this weekend.

Garance, My DH would have been very angry if his plants were damaged.
My house looks like a jungle.

Have a great evening!

Josie

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday!

Today I did Gym Style Legs ( only 27 minutes).

Garance:
Good for you for quitting smoking when you were young. I am glad I never started. My Mom died from lung cancer, fathter also smoked for years but quit about 40 years ago and still came down with emphysema! He also is on oxygen ( when he gets nagged to put it on)

Linny:
Yeah..no hives!:)

Josie:
Good for you for taking a rest day, ( love tans as well, even if they are not good to do!), and a pedicure and manicure are so relaxing!

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did Jari Love's Get Ripped and Chiseled (62 min.).

I heard about the heat out west, Josie--triple digit heat wave in some areas. The weather here is just too wet. More rain yesterday afternoon and maybe some showers today. DH is getting impatient for some dry weather to finish his first cut of hay.

Our bull, Mr. Kool, was finally let out of his spring confinement into the pasture with the cows and new calves. What a ruckus! He's already serviced two of the ladies and scared the hell out of his offspring.

MMM--love chicken piccata. Lidia has a recipe for this in her "cutlets" section. I made salmon in an agrodolce sauce on Sunday and we had leftovers yesterday. Tonight it's beef slivers with cilantro from my new Hunan cookbook by Fuchsia Dunlop and some stir-fried broccoli from the garden. I am still waiting (impatiently!) for the Sichuan cookbook by Dunlop that I ordered from Amazon. I think they probably had a run on this one after everyone reading Steingarten in Vogue read that he regarded it as the best Chinese cookbook of all

I'm reading the new Elizabeth George mystery, Careless in Red. Pretty good! Any other Detective Lynley fans out there?

Hi Deb,Garance and Josie:
Well its raining right now,we have had off and on showers for the past few days.
Josie:I don't know which is worse heat or the cold.At least with cold you can put on an extra layer with heat thereis only so much you can take off.Stay Cool.Hope your pedicure was very relaxing.
Deb:How is little Keegan?Any new antics?Great escapes?
Garance:Love your bull's name.WHat is the name of Lidias cookbook? That salmon dish and the beef dish sound delicious.I love trying new recipes.I will have to check out that Chinese cookbook on Amazon.I never cooked Chinese before.~Linny~

Hi Deb, Garance and Linny,

I will be going to my hard core class and doing 30 minutes on the elliptical before the class.

Linny, It is a bit cooler today and it is supposed to stay like this until Friday.

Garance, I love Chinese food and try to cook it often.

Deb, I would also like to know about Keegan. I love puppies!

Josie

Good Morning & Happy "Hump" Day!

Today I did a 40 minute I-Tread. 293 calories burned. We are getting beautiful weather here..not too humid and sunny.

Garance:
You sound like a great cook! You always have such interesting menus. I am a restaurant kind of girl! DH is the cook in the house. Mr. Cool sounds scary! I have not heard of that mystery series, but I wrote it down and will be requesting them from the library. I like to start a series right from the beginning..it bugs me to start one in the middle, or even with the second one..very obsessive with that for some reason. I requested the first in the series of that one with the nun that is the pastor and the police chief (?). I had read some of those, but I want to read them in order before getting the new one that you mentioned.

Linny:
Keegan is doing great. He went to his first puppy class Monday night, so cute! How has work been? Are the other nurses showing up?

Josie:
Do you use anything when you do the eliptical, like an I-Pod? I give you a lot of credit for being able to stay on that for 30 minutes! DH is going to take more pics of Keegan...I will post as soon as he uploads them to the computer.

Have a great day!

Deb
:)

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

Cackle and Shriek today (59 min.).

Deb, that's a good idea on Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley series. They really do need to be read in order. The last one was a real shocker (I won't spoil it for you.), and this new one really picks up a few months later. I love the characters. The same is true of the Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne series by Julia Spencer-Fleming. I really loved this last one, and especially in terms of its two major characters.

No, Deb, I think I am good at reading a recipe and following it carefully. I do love reading recipes and cookbooks, though, and I can usually tell if a recipe is going to taste good. The salmon with agrodolce sauce was getting 4 forks reviews at epicurious.com, and it was so easy I had to try it. I also have some Sclafani balsamic vinegar for the recipe, and I think that really makes it. I like to do fish once a week, too. I would do it more if I lived anywhere close to the ocean. Around here, it's pretty hard to get good fish. I also cannot eat farm-raised fish because of this article I read about the foulness of the conditions in these so-called fish farms in Chile and the mercury content, so my sockeye Alaskan wild salmon was pretty pricey. I love making desserts, but DH and I just cannot eat all of them. I have made this recipe for guests (2X) that I found at epicurious.com that was spectacular (!): Tiramisu Eggnog Trifle. It's pure heaven to taste, but enough to serve a very large group. I even made the chocolate leaves for this. DH's favorite for his birthday is my Burnt Sugar Cake. He ate half and froze half for later consumption.

Linny, that cookbook is Lidia's Italian-American Kitchen. It's a really good Italian cookbook. I have a Sichuan cookbook by Mrs. Chiang that is absolutely superb. It's falling apart from use. Another one, too, that has some great recipes--e.g., chicken with walnuts and eggplant with ground pork are two of DH's favorites.

Gosh--I should be talking about exercise, not food! Enough!

Beautiful day here today. I'm off to the hairdresser to get me some highlights--yes!

Hi Deb,Josie and Garance:

Deb:I can't wait to see new pictures of Keegan. So cute about him going to school. They grow up so fast;-) Work was kinda crazy last night.I was the only RN so if there is a IV issue or staffing they come running to me.I've only been there 3 mos.and don't like supervisor job thrown on my lap.I spoke with my manager this morning and she said that higher up just consider it a unspoken rule if you are the only RN then you are supervisor.I told her if I have to be in that situation then I should be paid more, she agrees but doesn't make that decision. On other unit patient came back on 3-11 and his orders were all screwed up and left for 11-7 to figure out.No wonder we have so many malpractice suits in the US.Most of errors are just plain laziness and sloppy work.
Garance:Thanks for the info on cookbooks.I did check the one by Dunlop at Amazon.I would have bought it but it was on backorderx( I do have all of Giada's cookbook and like every recipe I've tried so far.I definitely will check into the Lidia cookbook. How do your highlights come out? I desperately need to go for a cut and highlights, its been over a year now.
Josie:Where do you get all that energy?Elliptical before Hardcore class~EEK. Pretty warm here today highs 70's low 80's comfortable.
have a great night~Linny~

Good Morning!

I did the superset pre-mix for Chest & Triceps from Gym Stle today.. it's rainy and dreary here, and like a sauna!
