Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B July 4th

I'm not getting updates from this thread automatically, must have to do with the new browser.

Ha! Linda, my DH is not a farmer but this mower had been resusitated from death so many times that it became an ongoing challenge about "how long to a decent death" . one time it broke an axle and a wheel came off and we had to CARRY it up from the bottom of our lot. I held up the front missing the wheel while DH pushed. OMG. what a memory. It was included with a previous house and was not new. we lived there 5 years, moved it to the current house where we've been for 22 years. probably 30 yo parts aren't available anymore. we use it to pull the chipper/shredder and the lawn cart around so it needs to work. most people would have gone thru 3 mowers in that time, I don't think mowers are made to the standard of farm equipment. anyway, time to move on finally. got a John deere and it works great.

Joan, especially if you've been getting the hot weather, allow for some fluid fluctuation. water is heavy and when it gets hot I always hold a couple pounds of water, which drops when the weather goes back to normal. I sweat more, pee more, crave salt, and get a little water retention. just keep eating right and exercising and it will drop again.

in terms of workouts, it got really hot here too, in the 90's. so I took one day off after doing major garden stuff in the heat and yesterday did disk 23 (legs) and 24 back biceps.. that's the end of meso 2. I have very slight soreness today. I did respectable weights on the leg disk but didn't push the limits. slight soreness but not 3rd degree. I now know I need squats/lunges once a week to prevent major doms, regardless of biking hiking etc. I kind of like doing 2 disks in a day, only one warm up and I was done in under 2 hours. I wouldn't do 2 upper body ones though too much overlap. I did legs first and it flows surprisingly well.
cardio today and maybe repeat a disk on saturday. we have another 5 day vacation but too hot to hike right now. conditions will moderate over the weekend. will try a backpack sun-mon-tues-wed, not sure which days.

Deb, I kept getting a message saying "IE has encountered a problem and has to close". there was also a constant error on the MSN toolbar that would not fix. other times the screen would just lock up, not close or let me access the start button. I'm running Norton security and it doesn't show any problems. calling DELL, they just turf you off to the fee service people. so far firefox works fine and my screen is less cluttered. I can always use IE if I want but this seems to be working around the problem. this is a version of XP bought long after Vista was out (and aggravating everyone) so it's an older operating system.
window air conditioners are a pain and loud. a central unit of some sort is best. I'd give up a lot for comfort sleeping. Hope you get a solution. Ours does not cost much to operate, and it's only when it gets unpleasantly hot that we run it, so maybe 2 weeks a year. we got a heat pump because of the way it operates, it saves a huge amount on heating costs in winter(in this climate) and has the bonus of also being a cooling unit for the few days a year we need it. Life's too short to be miserable if it's something you can fix. Hope the doggie show goes well and you can sleep in an air conditioned motel!.

Josie, I am in awe that you were able to ride that much mileage. I don't think my butt could take it.

I'm always disappointed when people get boob jobs. I know there are many valid reasons why someone would want one, just feel bad that so many feel the 'need" to do it. I don't have any of the "firm" so I don't know who you refer to. One of the nice things about Cathe's crew is that everyone seems "normal" and very fit, not a bunch of matched, artificially perfect bodies/hair/make up/no sweat folks from central casting, wearing outfits no one would really work out in.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Petra Kolber's Just Dance (50 min.).

Somewhat less sticky here today, and tomorrow it may not even reach 80, which will be nice. Max is recovering nicely from his operation. I hope it does not take anything away from his sweet and cheery disposition.

DH and I will see the new Bening, Moore, and Ruffalo film "The Kids are All Right" tomorrow night. Sounds really good from the reviews.

Deb, good luck on the air conditioning! It looks like next week may be another hot one. We don't suffer too much without a-c because we are on the side of a mountain, and the breezes seem to come down after sunset. Have fun at the dog show!

Valerie, who had the boob job? Sorry--I'm lost.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,

No wo for me today. I will be spinning tomorrow and then I have a dentist appointment at noon. On Sunday I'm supposed to walk with 2 friends and then we are going to breakfast at a place that has the bet coffee and crapes in Santa Monica. I have looked at a couple of upcoming rides so that I can have a goal and get back to my training. One is in September and it is a 2 day ride at 100 miles per day and the other one is in November and that one is 100 miles.

Valerie, my booty was a bit numb by the 7th day, but not as bad as some of the female riders that I talked to during the ride. My problem was the muscle between my neck and my shoulder and the numbness on my left hand, but the techs adjusted the handlebars and I got an adjustment for the Chiro and that helped a lot.

Cathy, I had a lot of fun with the kids. We made sugar cookies in the shape of gingerbread men and they decorated them. I can't wait to see them again.

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Lynda, Cathy was referring to someone on "the firm" tapes who had a boob job. I forget who, but it was back in post #14. I guess this is a competitive sport( selling exercise ) and the better you look, the more likely people will buy your program. I think it's kind of sad people feel pressured to do that, although I know there are often other reasons.
geez, just got in from the garden... hot hot hot. tomorrow will be better

We moved all the pavers from our sidewalk to the side yard which makes a nice patio with no mowing. It is only 7ft wide. Unfortunately I forgot that I got a stamped concrete sidewalk for the front because I hated the weeds that came up in the cracks. I waited until dusk yesterday and weeded because ground was still wet from rain. Otherwide it is very hard to pull out the weeds. I really don't mind the weeding except I don't want to get too much sun.

Today was the program at princess camp. Elliot danced and we took pictures. They were all so cute. She even did most of the "ballet" moves correctly.

They took me out to lunch and I was good- only a bowl of chili.

I guess the forum will be down tonight and tomorrow. I printed off workout cards incase a miracle happens and I lift.

Joan

It's another hot one here today probably about 90 but I don't want to look. tomorrow is supposed to cool down. at least we don't get the outrageous humidity lots of you get. It's not dry like the desert but it's usually not real sticky here when it gets this hot.

I think I said, we have a 5 day stretch off, likely leave late sunday and hike in monday. nice to miss the tons of folks coming out on sunday. we haven't backpacked in a long time so looking forward to it, although it's always hard the first time. it's hard to adjust to carrying a lot of weight uphill so we will likely do something fairly gentle to work the bugs out. last year I ended up with the surgery in july so we didn't do any backpacks in 09.

have a great weekend everyone and hope weather moderates!

deb, no i don't have all the firms, probably not even half.
garance, i really do like the firm, they are usually my go to workouts. i guess i am comfortable with them, cuz i've done them for so long.

and yes, i was referring to some of the firm instructors that got boob jobs. way back they were just in the cast and then when they became instructors, it was quite obvious that their breasts were much larger. what other reason do people have them beside looks? didn't know there was any other reason. i had a friend that got implants many years ago, and had to have them taken out, cuz they were leaking. maybe they don't use those kind anymore. and, my poor sister has such hugh boobs she would give anything to have a reduction. but , they are way too expensive. they make her back hurt sometimes , cuz she is so big. she hates them.

we have a had a very nice summer, unbelievably, but we deserve it after the brutal summer we had last year. it rained again today. everthing is so pretty and green, very rare for this time of summer down here. we have flowers, green grass, and fireflys, which we very rarely have. our pastures are so green, it is wonderful. the horses are fat, the cowns are fat. i am very grateful for all the rain we have had. makes a hugh difference in the summer down here. i hope it rains all summer.

had g/kids last nite and today, so no workout. gonna try and catch up tomorrow, but i have to do a very heavy weight workout, so not sure how much extra i am gonna be able to do.
ya'll have a great weekend.

Saturday

Good morning!

No workout, HouseMax, plus Keegan's agility class today. We have him entered in a show tomorrow to attempt to get his Rally title. It's an outside show in Hamlin NY. This should be interesting, all the smells and distractions may do him in!

Garance, glad Max is ok. I think "fixing" makes them even sweeter and more mellow.

Josie, good times with friends, sounds like great weekend plans!

Joan, can you spray RoundUp in between the pavers? We couldn't when we had them because of the dogs, but I sure would have if it wasn't for them. Enough work weeding gardens, let alone having to week a patio!

Cathy, I agree with you on the instructors and the reasoning behind some of the things they do, I guess they look at it as a business decision.

Time to get ready for class....have a great day!

I was surprised that the forum was up then realized I looked at August instead of July when looking at 13th and 14th the forums would be down.
At least I have the wo cards printed for next week.

Still doing the treadmill.

Joan

well today i did total sculpt, which is very hard . it is a slow, heavy w/out from the firm, w/ jen carman as instructor. she is fabulous. and i added another 18m of very heavy supersets, which included:

squat w/pulse--50# '' '' '' ''

not sure if i'll be able to walk tomorrow.
but, defintely got a great workout!!!
