Good morning,

Beautiful day here yesterday, although I spent most of it inside. I visited my cousin for a bit, she is not doing well with her Mom gone. My aunt was in a nursing home for the last 15 or so years, and her passing was a blessing at the end, but it is still very hard for my cousin to accept. She was the one that took care of everything for her etc.

Did I mention that we had some landscaping done? They did it when I was away and it came out great. Now hoping they last this time. We had the gardener put in a soaker hose that we can just turn on for an hour or so a day, then turn off.

Lori, glad all went well with the colonoscopy....do you have a 10 year reprieve now? I don't think I ever saw that particular workout, I think at that time I was just buying one workout here and there, and not a whole series. I do have some of those, but don't remember which ones they are!

I will try to get a workout in today, not sure what though...maybe a KCM...

Hi to Josie, Lynda, Judy, Cathy and the travelling Valerie,

Take care

Good morning ladies!

This morning was Circuit Blast followed up with 15 mins of bis and tris to round it out. I am really enjoying pulling out some older DVD's while waiting on the new ones. Been so long since I have done these they feel new again. :)

Beautiful here again in New England. A longer than usual walk is in order to soak up the day.

Deb...please send your landscaper this way.

Welcome back Valerie! I quickly read thru your message but plan to reread tonight. Yes very creepy the way they touch and go thru your things.

Josie...great job on the workout. Glad to read you are really on the mend and will be back to 100% in no time.

Wanted to attached a picture of our Chihuahua Nilla. She is 13 years old and never misses a workout. She hops on her little step or lays at the end of the mat every day. I think she keeps me in line and makes sure I have good form Anyways...hope it makes you all smile!

Hi Everyone,

Deb-sending thoughts and prayers to your cousin. I was in a similar situation with my Mom and it is very hard.

Lori- I love Nilla! She is so cute! I like your workout area too.

Valerie-I hope the storm isn't too bad. I don't blame you for changing your plans after seeing so many school children:eek:

I felt worse Thursday and Friday. DH made me go to urgent care Thursday night, they did a strep test, which was negative. Thursday night I slept all night, waking up at 6 am when DH had to get up. I can't remember the last time I actually slept all night. I was off work Friday so I just rested all day and by yesterday I felt a little better. I felt more like working out today, but decided to take it easy and just did 30 minutes of core work. This week I'll be starting my Spinerval "Base Camp" plan:

Spinervals Super6 - Base Camp

Hi to Josie, Lynda & Cathy,

Judy

Hi Ladies,

I just got some bad news from my DB. My nephew Santos killed himself this afternoon leaving his wife and a five year old son. I have known him since he was in diapers and he was always happy and friendly. He was 40 years old and had just retired from the Army. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Josie

Good morning and Happy Monday ( NOT!),

I feel like I have been away from work for weeks, but it has only been 4 1/2 days. I did a KCM total body workout yesterday, and 30 minutes of Run Fit this morning, and my HRM watch crapped out on me...arrrgh! I hope it is just a battery, but usually when they go, it is completely gone. This kept going off an on....so annoying.

Lori, boy you are really digging into the Cathe archives! Nilla is so cute sitting there like a little princess on a throne! Yes, I think we have found a jewel of a landscaper, he hasn't even given us the bill yet. He bought all the trees etc mulch, and didn't want any money up front. We put in 13 arborvitae to replace the ones that died. These are all along our yard fence. There are about 20 of them total.

Judy, glad you are feeling better, maybe another easy day before you get into something difficult.

Josie, so sorry about your nephew...that is sad, no indication that he was depressed etc?

Valerie, glad your trip went well. Are you going somewhere else soon? As for the Customs inspections, they are for the most part random. If you have a lot of "stuff" with you, that could be the reason they checked you more thoroughly.

Work, then class tonight, so a late night for us...take care,

Josie-I am so sorry to hear about your nephew. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Judy

Our "big storm" ( the biggest sept storm in history) turned out to be absolutely nothing. it was hyped so much we were SURE we were all going to die. no wind here at all, just a little rain. I don't want to complain because things turned out well, but sometimes you feel manipulated because the NWS and the local TV went nuts. they have screamed "WOLF" too often!

Deb, some people get really wrapped up in the care of someone very sick, and you would think they'd be relieved when the sick person passes and their constant pain ends. My BIL did much of the care for his mother and father and he is still "stuck" and not able to move on. he's not working and drinking too much and he is now becoming a concern for the rest of us. it's way beyond what I'd call normal grieving.
somehow the process is very different for me when it's someone who clearly has reached the end of life versus someone ripped away suddenly for a terrible reason like Lynda has just gone through. I get over the first situation quickly but the second not quickly at all.
Josie.... that is so sad. I had a cousin I knew very well kill himself. it's hard to get past because people can hide their difficulties so well that there is no warning and everyone is left feeling they could have changed something if only they'd "known". but there was no way to know.

Judy take a few days to recover. don't rush back in and relapse.

so we were going to head toward Yellowstone this week but now we are faced with the possibility the national parks may close if the R's continue their efforts to block the ACA. if the parks close, people already in them get 48 hours to get out. and most park roads close oct 15 anyway so we are trying to decide what to do or not do.

Deb, all campers have a lot of stuff. we just seem to be pushing against bad karma every since our Tahoe trip. I assume some searches must be random. when we travel we have gear for all kinds of weather and different activities plus all our food. hard to buy what you need in small stores in remote areas. better to bring it along. so if in doubt, we bring it. we are careful on the foods we can bring into Canada. some weird restrictions on fruits.... no apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, strawberries, blueberries, avocados. that's not the whole list.

Did 30 on the treadmill, and burn sets bi's/ tris, and core 1.

Good evening!

Josie....i am so sorry for your loss. That is so sad. 40 years old is young. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Deb...i have a HRM and I am ALWAYS forgetting to put it on. I love it when I do use it. Hope yours is just the battery and an easy fix. Your landscaping sounds really nice. I hate any kind of yard work. I like looking at other people's yards but have no desire to do anything but the bare minimum.

Valerie...wow that is right about the possible shut down. Never thought about parks and things like that. So ridiculous. Did not realize the list of food items to enter Canada. All the stuff you pack how do you keep track of everything or even know what not to bring???

Judy...glad you are feeling better. After being sick that long I agree it is best to ease into your workouts like you did.

Oh...I got the new workouts today! Tonight I only had a few minutes so I did the x10 cardio blast! Loved it!!!! Valerie...pedal power will be in the mail to you tomorrow!

Have a great night all.

Lori, thank you.. we will be going 'somewhere" probably MT or ID so I will send you a check after we get back.

I know we don't get too political here, but what are the R's doing?? they are nuts.

Most people know about hand guns that can't go into Canada.. they have big restrictions on alcohol. mostly worry about food. it gets very specific as you can tell, and then stuff that can't come back into the US. I lost a bunch of red bell peppers a couple years ago to US customs...

Good morning,
coffee.gif

Very tired this morning, a late class last night and then the dogs got me up at 4:05, and even though I brought them back upstairs, I couldn't get back to sleep.

Valerie, I think your decision to not go to Yellowstone is a good one. Would hate to get all the way there and not be able to get in. Yes, most fruits, and certain vegetables cannot come into the US in passenger vehicles. Lots of shipments of them though in trucks. :).

Josie, will be mailing the spinning DVD to you.

Lori, I feel like you about landscaping and any type of yard work. I would rather read a book! Is X-10 cardio blast high impact? I got mine but with going to class etc, I did not get to preview any of them. I am interested in Flex Train and the X-10 ones because they are 30 minutes :). Also got the new KCM yesterday, so another one to try out.

Hi to Judy and Lynda,

Work, then NOTHING. Maybe I will take Keegan for a walk.

Take care,

the deal with Yellowstone is that the road along the north side of the park is always open since it's the hwy that connects Cooke City on the east to the world more than half the year because the road to the east over the Beartooth gets closed by snow early. so we might still go just planning to hike from that road. campgrounds and other roads would be closed.
there are wilderness areas around parks that are accessible. the kicker is that hunting season is in full swing and we like to avoid the ugliness of that by using parks during hunting season.... not this year. you might drive all that way and find the place yiou wanted to hike is filled with horse trailers and blood and gore. this applies to ALL US parks and monuments. we don't really want to go right back to Canada! besides border agents are federal employees, and we don't know if some could be furloughed making border wait times long and difficult. the R's are going to push this to the limit.... I hope people remember this at election time.

yard work yesterday. We tried arborvitae once but the deer eat all the lower foliage off as high as they can reach.so the tops are big and green ... they ended up looking like gigantic green mushrooms.

Good evening ladies....

I had a doctors appt this morning so I was able to sleep in a bit. Hurt my shoulder at work. No tears so i am thankful. I elected on a cortizone shot since my DH has had good luck with them. So far it feels pretty good. It was only hurting with lateral movements so when I workout out I avoided anything lateral.

This morning I did Flex Train in it's entirety and loved it. Great workout. I had the time this morning so went for it. Tomorrow morning will be another x10 workout. Loving that you can pick and choose and keep the workout under 30 minutes. Love this for my morning workouts! Deb the cardio blast is high impact. I loved it but you may not. I am sure you can modify though.

Valerie...funny about the arborvitae! Another reason why I avoid yardwork. :)

Judy..thanks for sharing the link for the spinervals. I enjoyed looking at it.

Josie and Lynda...thinking of you and your family.

Good morning,

I did Cathe's new Flex Train this morning, only did a Time Saver premix and it kicked my butt. Wow..this one is really different lots of new refreshing moves.

Valerie, I would avoid any parks etc too. The furloughs are not supposed to impact the border inspectors, we get updates from Customs all day by e-mail on what is going on at the borders and at headquarters in DC. However, agencies like FDA and USDA are short staffed, so lines will be longer as trucks are trying to get in with freight that has to be examined by others besides Customs. Do you and your DH have Nexus cards? That would be the way to go. Separate line, etc. I can't speak for any slow downs going into Canada, totally separate thing.

Lori, how did you hurt your shoulder? I thought Flex Train was a great mix of weights and had a good cardio factor. I think it will be one of my "go to" workouts. I was sweating and only did the 39 minute premix!

Hi to Judy,

Josie, Lynda, keeping you and your families in my thoughts.

Work, agility class, another late night...

Take care,

Deb, we saw the Nexus line. it definitely went faster. however the border crossing we use has a right lane for all campers/trailers etc. while the Nexus lane is the far left. the BP guy told us that you can't have ANY food in the Nexus lane so we'd always be breaking that rule. even when we use the car, we have lunch and snacks because we're hiking or skiing. we cross at town of Sumas, WA. there is a bigger separate lane for commercial trucks. they go thru much faster.

we're not sure .... north side of Yellowstone might be fine except for camping "somewhere". we're not even getting any response from national forest service. those campgrounds might be closed too. this time of year they often turn off water, lock bathrooms but you can still park there. others with gates close off completely. no way to be sure until you drive there. we will decide by this weekend.

Did 20 treadmill, burnsets ch,sh,ba, and core 1. I'm enjoying the treadmill again. it's certainly simple and efficient. combined with upper body weights, feels like a complete workout. I like how there's a premix that includes core so it flows right into it. about 90 min with several short breaks to put dinner in the oven and take it out.

Lori sorry about the shoulder. absolutely let it rest and avoid any moves that make it hurt.

Judy I watched the spinervals clip. do they go to anything but focusing on the cycles/cyclers themselves? annoying watching that guy leering at the blond... that would get old quickly.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I ended up doing x10 cardio blast again. I didn't want any weights at all and knew this one had none.

I hurt my shoulder by carrying a 32 pack of water. Was in a rush getting ready for a meeting at work and was holding it by the plastic. Well wrong thing to do. The left side gave out and went flying to my right pulling my right arm in a weird way. I knew immediatley I did something. Cortizone shot really helped. It feels great but no lateral weights for a couple of weeks.

This is crazy with the shut down. Feel so bad for all the people out of work. And all the people with planned vacations that have spent tons of money. I would be so angry! Hoping you get to go away to were you want to Valerie.

Deb...I loved Flextrain. I did the entire workout too..abs and all. Now grant you I did need to modify some moves due to shoulder but yes it still wiped me!

I am off until Tuesday!!! Yeah!!! Plenty of time to try all the new workouts. I downloaded them all to my Ipad so going to start to review them all.

Have a great night all!

Hi Everyone,

On Monday I did a 1 hour Spinerval. Tuesday I took it easy and just did 20 minutes of Core Max and some pushups in the evening. By this morning, I felt like I was ready to work a little harder so I ran 3 miles. It was so nice out, and it felt so good to be outside. I'm not fast, but I definitely got a good workout. I'm still not doing anything too long, as I don't want to get sick again, but hopefully by next week I'll be able to get back to my normal workouts.

Lori-sorry about your shoulder. I've had cortisone shots in my foot and hip and they do work. The new workouts sound like fun! I may have to download one. Enjoy your time off!

Valerie-That was kind of a bad clip-I think they must have hired a new marketing firm or something. Spinervals aren't like that at all. Not sure what they were thinking. There are sets and rest periods, depending on the workout. This video is a much better example:

Spinervals 39.0 - Aerobic Base at 10,000 Ft. / DVD Trailer - YouTube

Hi to Deb, Lynda, Josie, & Cathy,

Judy

Good morning all,

So glad it's Thursday, and only 2 more days until the weekend.

Valerie, nice workout! I forgot about the food and the Nexus line. I had a card but let it expire. I found that I never went to Canada alone, and the person I was with inevitably did not have a card. Everyone in the car has to have a card or you can't use the line. Now that you can use them for the security lines in airports ( you can go in the line that the pilots go in etc) John and I are thinking about getting them. He goes to Canada to fish, alone, so it would be good for him too.

Lori, Glad that the shot helped. I bet you are not doing those lateral shoulder exercises in Flex Train! Those really got to me, and I used 5 pound DB's. We have a standing call everyday with all our offices across the country to discuss the impact of the shutdown on our business. Lots of agencies we work with every day are closed, or at half staff.

Judy, I have only tried Flex Train, and it is such "refreshingly new" stuff. Cathe has outdone herself. I hope I like all the others as much as this one. I will probably sell the step workouts, not sure if you are interested in those. I may just view the kickbox ones to see if I want to keep them or not. I really have used kickbox ones much lately, and do not have a heavy bag so that is not appealing to me either.

Josie, I will be putting your DVD in the mail today.

Lynda, thinking of you and your DH.

Work, then home to crash, take care,

Good morning ladies!

Being lazy right now and loving it! Thinking about doing the greatest hits dvd. After reading the reviews it sounds like a lot of athletic moves which I like. I will let you know.

Deb the rockout knockout looks great and I think you may like it. The heavy bag bonus is only 10 minutes and can easily be done without a bag. Lol! You got that right with the laterals on flex train. I alternated bis and tris with this one.

I have no desire to do the party rocking step #1. Way dancy for me. #2 has potential. More what I like. The rest of the Dvd's do look fun so looking forward to them.

Valerie...I am starting to use my treadmill more too. I tend to run more in the fall and winter. Looking forward to catching up with a couple of TV series. Love watching them while running.

Judy...great job on running 3 miles. I can run on my treadmill but not out side. Way to hard on me. I envy those that do. Good for you!!!!!

Josie and Lynda...hope you are doing well. Prayers still coming your way.

Hi to cathy!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Since returning from the memorial service on Monday, I have been reviewing and doing a few of the new workouts: I did All Out low Impact Hiit on Tuesday, took a look at the dancier step workout (definitely a learning curve on this one), then yesterday did the Legs and Abs workout, which I really liked, because it's so do-able for me. Today I did the step #2 workout, which is definitely fun, but still a bit fast on the first try. Tomorrow I will do Flextrain, which I reviewed today.

DH and I are off to Minnesota tomorrow for a wedding. Two women who have been partners for 35 years are marrying now that it's legal. One of them is my best friend (we go back to 7th grade) and came here for the memorial service for my sister-in-law because they were acquainted one summer when SIL was recovering from a painful divorce and they both were with us at the Jersey Shore. It will be nice to have a happy occasion to celebrate after all the sadness. My friend was a great shoulder to lean on.

The service was beautiful, with the string quartet from the Boston Symphony playing opening and closing pieces, and a pianist too with a short piece (SIL was a talented pianist). The church in Danvers could not seat everyone who came. DH composed a short remembrance and managed to get through it without breaking down. There was a very big obituary in the Boston Globe, and she will have a special garden at Tanglewood and a piano recital next summer in her honor. We also met one of the bikers who survived with injuries and the wife of the cyclist who is still in the hospital with multiple broken bones. Just before the crash, the other cyclist who was killed said, "We are going to have a great ride!"

DH's younger brother and his son came back with us and stayed for a couple days. The weather and foliage here has been spectacular, but my head is filled with melancholy poetry from Keats and Gluck about this dying season.

Thank all of you for your kind thoughts (Deb--beautiful card!) and Josie, so sorry for your loss!

Lori, I did a lot of PT for my shoulder, which the orthopedist thought was "frozen," and I did get a cortisone shot that eased the aching for a couple weeks. But it still hurts at night, so I'm getting an MRI on Tuesday to see if anything else is going on there. I have good range of motion, but it really bothers me at night.

Just as a side note, my SIL was a big Cathe fan and was about as chiseled as Cathe. Just in incredibly good shape.

Hi Ladies,

I went spinning yesterday and today will be a full body weight workout. I have been very sad for my nephew's loss, but I know that it will get worst when we attend the funeral.
Not looking forward to that.

Garance, the service sounds wonderful.

Hi to Deb, Lori, Judy and Valerie!
