Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/1/13

You can bring up weather maps that show the smoke plume. also a lot of the highway cams show where it's smoky. we made the mistake last year of not checking closely and it was not worth driving to several places we went because the air was very stinky. after not many hours you get a headache, sore throat, and the gorgeous scenery is ruined.

It's terrible for the people who live there... not discounting what they endure... but going to a smoky place on vacation.... when you want to hike, bike, and take pictures.... makes no sense. if it's likely to be smoky, we go somewhere else.

Deb, when I made the plane reservations for Reno, I made them for wed sept 11. maybe that was why the tickets were cheaper than thursday the 12th! did not occur to me at the time.

Hi Ladies,

My boot is off! I can start spinning and I can do low impact cardio.
I will be going spinning tomorrow and doing the T-25 low impact disc.

I will be back later :)

Josie

Good evening ladies!

Slept in this morning. Did not sleep well at all. When I came home I changed into my workout gear and started T25 Core speed and just was not feeling it. It is a great workout I was just not into it. So I changed into walking gear and took Chester for a 3 mile walk. We both were happy!

Today was a tough day at the office. Lots of tears and we received Olivia's obituary and funeral information? Been ages since I have gone to a funeral of someone so young. This will be difficult. She really was a sweet girl. Just got caught up and made a bad decision.

Deb...hope your aunt is not in any pain. Very sad to hear.

Josie!!!! AWESOME!!! Very happy the boot is history! Great news!

Valerie...9/11 is my Birthday. I turned 40 on THE 9/11. For several years after I could not celebrate my bday on the 11th and celebrated on the 10th. It just did not seem right. After about 5 years I decided to go back to the 11th and celebrate life! And I do!!

I am getting real excited about the new workouts. Not thrilled about the greatest hits being all step. I am like you Deb and do not care for dancy step. hoping lots of athletic moves! Valerie, email me your address and I will mail the spin when I receive it.

Hi to Judy and Lynda!

Good morning all,

Not much going on here, work, work, and work. At least today is Hump Day. My aunt is not eating, they did not do the CT scan yesterday. I guess it's just a matter of time. :(

Valerie, I didn't remember that you had to fly to Reno for the wedding. I think flights vary depending on when you book them, and the day you fly, even the day of the week. I heard that they have that fire contained about 70%. I sure hope they can get it out soon.

Josie, YAY for getting the boot off!

Lori, I never thought about the people who have birthdays on 9/11...I agree with you, it must have been pretty hard to celebrate on that day, for the first few years, but afterwards, you have to remember to celebrate life. So sad about your co-worker's DD. That will be a tough one to attend, for sure. So young and all.

Judy, you must be looking forward to the new Spin DVD...You did get new the series right? I am looking forward to the X-10 one....short varied workouts...with lots of premixes!

Work, then agility class...

Take care,

It was funny about 9/11. we had a delayed reaction. DH and I were in Colorado camping and hiking. we found a couple bizarre entries on the trail "sign in" sheet but didn't see or talk to anyone for several days. so it was several days after the fact before we found out what had happened. I bought a newspaper someplace and tried to piece together events that had occurred. we cut our vacation short. it felt strange to be out enjoying ourselves when things were in such turmoil..... so I don't have the strong association with the date that many people have.

we did another hike today. supposedly also 4 miles( 8 miles RT) but way easier than the one the other day that felt 10x longer and harder.

Josie congrats on kicking the boot!. will feel great to get back unencumbered.

Lori, I sent you a pm with my email and address. will be a very sad occasion to attend. poor judgement at the wrong time can extract a very heavy price.

Deb, I bought the tickets several months ago, not my usual last minute. it's a niece who's getting married for a second time. for a while we thought about driving and using it as a springboard for vacation but it's still pretty warm in southern CA and though the fires are settling down it's still dry and it isn't high on the list of what we wanted to do. want to go north while it's still nice since good weather won't last as long as further south so will be a fairly fast down- and- back trip.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did T25 core speed. This is the bonus workout that came with the dvd's and I sub this for one of the ones I do not care for. I really like this one so it works well. Tonight I walked chester for only 30 mins then did hip thrust 100 rep challenge and threw on some squats and deadlifts.

Tomorrow is the wake. Going to be tons of people. Preparing myself for a 3 hour wait. This is what they are estimating right now.

Valerie, that is amazing you had no clue of 9/11. Makes sense though if you are deep in the woods with no technology. I bet you were in disbelief when you started to hear what had happened.

That fire out there is terrible. Seems like so many fires lately. One right after the other.

Deb..I am looking forward to the x10 too. This may be the first one I try out. I am looking forward to all except the complex step one. I am sure this one will collect dust!!

Hi to Judy, Lynda and the bootless Josie!!!!!

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I ran 4 miles and did Xtrain Chest, Back, & Shoulders with Core 1. This morning I did a 45 minute spinning workout and ran 2.3 miles. The weather is so nice this week, I am trying to get outside a little every day.

Josie-so glad your boot is off! I bet it feels great to spin again!

Lori-I can imagine how hard that must be :( That is so very sad

Must have been hard to have a 9/11 birthday too, and for your 40th to be on 9/11/01. I think you were right to go back to celebrating on your real birthday!

Deb-so sorry about your Aunt, that is very sad too.
Actually, I didn't order the new series :( I really wish I would have pre-ordered when the prices were really low, but I had already gotten STS, and most of Xtrain, plus a few others. I will get the spin workout and probably a couple of others eventually.

Valerie-my 9/11 was the opposite of yours. I was in a meeting in Mt. Laurel, NJ when the attacks occurred. I had flown into Philly on 9/10 and was due to fly back to the Quad Cities on the evening of 9/12. Our meeting was interrupted and someone turned on a TV in the room in time for us to see the second plane hit. A woman in the room started screaming because she knew someone that worked at the WTC. No one knew what was going on and where the next plane would hit. It was a very surreal experience, and even though it was 12 years ago, I can remember so many small details from that day.

Judy

Good morning,

My aunt has been moved to a hospice room at the hospital. It's now a matter of time. So sad. Although for our family, our aunt "left us" 17 years ago when she came down with encephalitis. Although she did not suffer from Alzheimer's, the virus killed both of her memory lobes and since then, her memories last only for the moment.

Valerie, I remember you telling us about being out of touch with TV etc and not knowing what happened on 9/11 until later. That had to be so strange. I was in DC at a hotel about a mile from the Pentagon, at a large meeting with U.S Customs and many other agencies, and company people. We could see the smoke and all from the Pentagon and waited to see what, if anything else was going to hit DC. They actually were tracking the plane that ended up crashing in PA, thinking it was headed for another DC location....scary. I had to take a train to Philadelphia, then rent a car to get home.

Lori, I think I promised to sell the new step workouts to someone from here, but lost her contact info when I had the computer issue. Lucky Chester, 30 minutes is a great walk time!

Judy, I hear you on ordering the series, I sometimes debate on it, because I have so many that I don't do...but like you said, the presales are so less expensive. I tell myself that I can always sell the ones I don't use or like on Ebay. Josie always takes the spin one :). One thing I always remember about being at that hotel on 9/11 was everyone trying to call home, or their office and there being no cell service, and long lines at the pay phones, ( which they actually had at the time!). Also seeing hundreds of people walking/ running in the streets cars grid locked, very scary.

Not much here, getting ready for the obedience trial this weekend, I am in charge of the workers...

will check back later, take care

Deb-I'm sorry about your aunt. That must have been very hard to deal with the memory loss for so long too. :(

Being in DC on 9/11 must have been quite an experience, something you would never forget.

We have always taken vacation in September but sometimes we are more "connected" than others. we do backpacking but even car camping can be remote. no phone, no radio etc. I don't remember what our plans were but we drove out of the mountains and when we got on the freeway people acting oddly, flags everywhere. I think our radio didn't work because the antenna had snapped off. I kept telling DH, "something is wrong" but obviously we had no clue. ended up in Grand Junction, checked into a motel, bought a newspaper, we turned on the TV and wow. what a shock.

that must have been awful in real time, especially being near locations that were hit, and then having to travel.

gotta go to 7 am yoga, more later.

Hi Ladies,

Went spinning and my foot felt fine. I was amazed the I still had retain some endurance because i did the whole hour and the instructor was very helpful. My inner thighs are screaming and I know that I will be sore tomorrow. I went to the gym to take the class because it is to hot to do it in my garage it is supposed to reach 90 along the coast :(

My 9/11 story is that I had just dropped off my DS at the airport on 9/5, on his way to bootcamp in Great Lakes. He had joined the NAVY and when i turned on the news on 9/11 my heart sank because I knew that there was going to be a war. He was on one of the first ships that went there and was there for 7 months. That was one of this 3 deployments.

Deb, sorry to hear about your aunt. My DH and I are going to visit my MIL this weekend.
She has Alzheimer's and she no longer recognizes anyone.

Lori, I will keep your co-worker in my prayers. She is going to need a lot of support from her friends and family.

Hi to Garance, Valerie and Judy!

Josie

Deb, so sorry about your aunt. we had very good experiences with hospice for both FIL and MIL. they were very responsive and kind and made sure they were not in pain , and that things were not prolonged needlessly. I would not hesitate to recommend hospice.

wow. I skated thru 9/11 compared to the rest of you. Truly no personal involvement at all. Lori, I think taking back the day is the best course.

Good morning and Happy Friday!

I will be working a half day today, and going to the arena to help set up for the trial, also bring our crates and "stuff" so I can get a spot.

Thank you all for the kind words about my aunt. She was like a mother to me, we were very close, and I am one of the people she actually remembers, or did, until this last week.

Josie, great news on your foot and keeping your cardio endurance. How far away is your MIL? I assume she is in a facility of some sort?

Hi to all, will check in again later...Does anyone have any fun plans?

Take care,

good morning Deb. we were going to have guests for lunch but the woman is having a medical issue right now and will need to see her doc sometime today so we will do it another day.
we had a rainstorm/thunderstorm last night that was amazing. we don't often get thunder/lightning here.... pretty unusual. this was nonstop for hours along with a couple inches of rain. a lot of people get flooded out because it seldom rains hard here, just lightly, for a long time, and a downpour overwhelms drainage systems. anyway, still raining this morning but no more thunder/lightning. made for a rough night's sleep.

we might ride later today if it clears off, but no way to tell so I'm going to do upper body 'something" this morning.

Josie, when I've taken time off for an injury, the endurance part came back pretty quickly but I tend to get very sore. if I get "too sore" I don't want to work out, so that defeats the fast recovery. a little soreness is okay so I start back in going easier even if I could do more. frequent, less tough workouts get me tuned up faster than an all-out effort and then sidelined for 4 days.

Good afternoon ladies!

Oh boy what a sad couple of days. Hope I never have to go to a funeral of a young person again. This was terrible.

Other than my bday being 9/11 I was sitting at my desk and was on the phone with my friend who happens to live in NYC. He was singing me Happy Birthday when the 1st plane hit. He had the news on and while we were talking he mentioned there was an explosion at one of the towers. We chatted a while longer then the second plan hit. My heart sank and we new we were under attack. We hung up and I just prayed all day for his safety and for all the other New Yorkers.

I worked out yesterday morning to T25 Speed 2.0. Tonight the plan is Tabatacise and walk Chester.

Tomorrow morning I need to leave the house at 6:30AM to drive to Nashua NH for an employee meeting one of our restaurants is having. I am going as part of the support team. As much as it is pain to get there so early I will enjoy meeting the managers and staff at this restaurant.

Deb...so sorry about your Aunt. I also have a "Bonus Mother" and love her deeply.

Josie...great job on the bike. That is awesome. I am like Valerie ..if I am out of the loop for a bit my endurance bounces right back when I get into the swing of things.

Judy...did you order the new series? I can't remember. After this series I need to really hold back on buying any more. I have so many it is starting to get ridiculous! I need to really weed out the ones I do not do. I mentioned this before but still have not done this yet. Perhaps I will try my luck on EBAY and see what happens. been ages since I have sold something there.

Have a great weekend ladies!

I got on the treadmill and did 25 minutes, then did disk #1 ch, sh, then bonus core #1. running first did a good job getting me warmed up and I sweated ( for me) pretty heavily thru the whole thing. almost 2 hours altogether. I still feel fine running and feel like it gets the juices flowing better than an elliptical or even the spin bike. I use that mostly in winter. I am going to use the treadmill more often. DH doesn't muse it anymore because he is concerned about his knees wearing out due to alignment issues... very bowlegged... but I don't have a problem yet so will continue as long as I can.

I really feel for all of you who went thru so much closer and more personal experiences with 9/11. it must have been tremendously difficult.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a 30 minute Spinerval and a 30 minute walk in the morning and Core Max-Balanced Core premix last night. This morning I did Muscle Max. I wasn't sure that I would like a full body workout but I did.

Nothing special planned this weekend, I'm hoping to get a run or ride in tomorrow before going to FIL's to work.

Valerie-that sounds like a great workout! Running is very good, and it can give you the best cardio workout in the shortest time.

Josie-9/11 must have been so difficult for you. Thanks to your DS for serving our country!

Lori-I didn't order the new workouts, I would have liked to but I've bought so many Cathe dvds this year that I just couldn't justify it. Maybe early next year I will order some of the new ones.

Hi to Deb & Lynda!

Judy

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,

My DH and I are going to visit my MIL but first we are picking up my DB in Palm Springs.
He also wants to visit her and then we will return to PS and take him to dinner to celebrate his birth day and we may stay there tonight and go to the casino. The temperature in PS is going to be 103 :(.

Lori and Val, I plan on taking it slows :). I do not want to hurt myself again.

Judy, thank you. I will tell him :)

Have a great weekend Deb and Garance!

Josie

Judy, I've already reached the point of "too many" DVD's. I want the upcoming spin one because only 3 total spin ones. DH uses the spin bike in winter way more than I do as I prefer the treadmill. but really, how many weight workouts does anyone need? I like the last two series .... LIS and xtrain... the best but I have STS, GS and quite a few other older DVD's. Nothing wrong with any of them, and I used them a lot. I'm more efficient if I repeat a few regularly before moving to something else. I think changing up weight workouts helps make them more effective. plus, I have my outdoor activities. Hiking, biking, mt biking, xc skiing, snowshoeing. so I'm maxed out on what I'll buy right now for indoors.

Josie, I think it's hilarious( in a twisted sort of way) that you do all these workouts, spin, cycle 100 mile distances, and you break your foot dancing! glad you're better. 103 degrees wow, that reminds me to check temps for reno/tahoe next week. hope it's not THAT hot.
