Pentagenarians & Beyond: w/b 8/9/10

TGIF!!

Good morning!

One more day and then the weekend :D. Does anyone have any exciting plans? We do not have anything that "has" to be done and that is exactly how I like it.

So besides me and maybe Valerie, anyone going to get any of the new DVD's?

Have a good day!

Good morning. weather has been pleasant all week but we're getting a much warmer pattern for the weekend. it's hotter in the mountains than down here. we don't hike then. I'm amazed people can do it. Even coming back downhill on wed, it was probably around 70 but sunny, I was getting overheated. I've know whined about this before, but I cannot exercise in heat. I'd have heat stroke. It may be around 90 for several days. I know that's nothing to those of you who live in it for months. for me it's a horrible misery to be endured. we may be able to cycle if we go in the morning. we have a 5 day vacation coming up and are thinking about kayaking if it stays this warm.

Thanks Deb, I'm thinking about it but not decided yet.
Lynda, the reviews ( read 2) of Eat Pray Love were not very good. I don't let what reviewers say totally run my choice of movies, but when these two reviewers( very different tastes) agree it's a 2 star movie, not a good sign.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Ellen Barrett's Barefoot Cardio (48 min.).

I did get my one long stitch taken out (weird--one long black strand tugged out!) and the orthopedist does not think I need pt because he measured the angles on my moves (extension of arm with palm up) and hammercurl (trying to touch my shoulder with thumb), and they are so close to normal that he just encouraged me to do them gently every day--unless I want pt. He thinks I can start doing weights in a month, but he will see me on the 13th of September for the go-ahead. Knitting is fine, Deb. I think I will try to do some lower body work like p-57 and bbl.

Deb, I bet your two K's were happy to see you back from your CA trip. I've never been to Charleston, but I loved Savannah. We spent a final day there in that really wonderful graveyard described in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil--absolutely fascinating statues and lots of famous people buried there.

I plan to go to the Clark Art Museum this weekend to see the Degas-Picasso exhibition, but don't think I will rush to see Eat, Pray, Love. A.O. Scott gave it a lukewarm review for the NYTimes. I have two from Netflix: Bright Star about Keats and Fanny Brawne and The Damned United. I am tempted, though, to see the Other Guys. Looks good for a few laughs.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good afternoon all,

We had both kids today for the morning. Luke still won't take the bottle but she fed him and he took a long nap and she got back in time to feed again. Dh got to babysit in the afternoon with Luke while dil, Elliot and I went to open house at the preschool. It is in the same building as dil teaches special ed. She hope to get her into the full day preschool there in January because it is the same price as full day kindercare.

Garance sounds like you had the best possible outcome with the surgery.

It's been over 100 most days. Impossible to even swim let alone use treadmill.

I haven't taken dm to follow up mammogram or doctor's appt because it has been too hot. Yesterday she tells me she feels a lump. I guess I need to get her in sooner but it is probably just scar tissue.

Tomorrow is the first preseason football game. We will probably go the first quarter just to see all the new players then out to eat.

Joan

Good morning all,

I am getting ready to go to Keegan's agility class. DH and I went to a farmer's market this morning and got some nice fresh fruits, a new coffee roaster had a stand there, nice coffee so of course we had to try that, and some chocolate for DH. He cannot resist chocolate!

Valerie, I cannot exercise in heat either. I have not done any outside exercise in years. I keep saying I will start jogging/walking outside but with the heat and humidity this summer, I never do it. Our local movie review person that does a show every Friday evening said that movie was not good. too long and no point basically.

Garance, the 2 K's were thrilled to see us when we got back. They are not in a kennel, but are not really loose in the house that they stay at either, not like the freedom they have at home when we are at work. I bet Max is taking his job really seriously. HOpefully the hawk does not decide to attack! that would be awful.

Joan, you are do good to your Mom, she is one lucky lady. I don't blame you for not doing anything in 100 degree temps. ARe you going to pre-order any of the new DVD's?

take care!

it might be warm outside but...... we have a daylight basement (!!) where our gym is, so did GS chest/ triceps and coremax #3 after yardwork and baking brownies. DH NEEDS his brownies. I only have one when we hike/ bike but he has one every day with his lunch. I don't like to turn the oven on when it gets real warm, why challenge the air conditioning? so I got them baked when it was cool. I freeze them so I don't need to see them all the time, but we have them around all the time so not a great temptation.

I like the GS series, it's a lot like meso 1. lots of reps lighter weights. I came very close to doing all the drop set pushups on my toes this time. I could have I'm sure if I had another 5 seconds rest between sets. maybe next time. we'll do a bike ride tomorrow morning. cycling is fine when it gets warm in the morning. afternoons get pretty toasty and traffic ( and a head wind) pick up.

Summer is my least favorite season. and it's fairly pleasant here compared to most of the country if you dislike heat. usually when it gets warm the humidity is low. not "desert southwest" low, but not steamy like I remember from the midwest and florida.

Saw a little of the "eat pray love " promotion by julia roberts on Oprah yesterday. Just caught a few minutes while starting dinner. I'll probably rent it when it's out on DVD but not a theater movie for me.

Lynda, glad you are having such a good outcome. be patient and wait til he gives you the OK in sept.
