pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/4

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did Gym Style chest and tris (48 min.). This one is grueling, starting off with those dropsets of pushups, starting at 16, followed by 36 presses, 36 flies, another 24 presses on incline, another 24 flies on incline...... My weights just kept going down. No way I could do 36 presses with the 20 lbs. dumbbells.

Deb, thanks, I will let you know. We are getting waves of thunderstorms and we really, really need it, so I cannot complain. DH has already estimated a very much smaller crop of second-cut hay because it's been so dry.

Valerie, we have a bumper crop of tomatoes this year. Probably because of so many sunny days. The deer stay back in the woods here. Probably because of Max. We also have a bear back in the woods.

Off to Jacob's Pillow tomorrow for the Trey McIntyre Project, a favorite company. On Sunday, going out to dinner at a place called Gramercy Bistro.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Ladies,

It will be a quiet Friday at the office. My co-worker is off until next Tuesday, so I can get my work done without any drama ;)

I will be going to yoga tomorrow morning and then going back home to wait for the carpet people and my DB so he can finish painting my bathroom. I hope to have my house finished by Sunday. I would like to work on cleaning/steaming the cabinets in the kitchen on Sunday.

Have a great weekend ladies!

Josie

Josie, between home remodeling and work you need the break. too bad your coworker is such a PITA.

My DW is not fixed. he replaced all the electronics leading to the water heater because Bosch said it's "never" the water heater itself. well, guess what. heater still doesn't work, so he has to order the water heater anyway. will take several hours to replace it because he has to pull the unit apart again to get at it. I'm not feeling real good about this. I don't think I ever had a major appliance with all these problems right off.

We seldom get thunderstorms here. just not part of the regular weather. I thought they weren't good for overall rainfall because so much comes down at once that much runs off and doesn't soak in. ....not that you have any choices in the matter. but if it's that dry it must be anything is better than nothing.

we could have a dog and that would discourage the deer somewhat.. but I don't want to go back to the constant kennel business. I love dogs but we are gone too much where dogs can't go. the deer get pretty smart about what they can and can't do.

Good morning,

I had a nice day yesterday, went to the track, did 2 miles walking/jogging. Then out for breakfast, and a trip to the Outlet Mall. I didn't buy anything there, my cousin had to return something.

Lynda, It sounds like Jacob's Pillow will be better than what you saw last weekend.

Valerie, any chance you can talk them into a replacement DW? Since it is so soon after purchasing, they may do that. Actually, dogs chasing deer is illegal here, and the dog could be taken and possibly put down. Sounds a little harsh to me. "Running deer" is what they call it and owners have to be really careful that their dogs are not loose where there is deer.

Hi to Josie, and Joan,

Have a great weekend!

stuck in cardiosupersets late yesterday. problems with my sister, my brother, my MIL. seems like everyone is having some kind of issue. I can't fix any of it.
the DW.. the service company is not the place I bought the DW. I bought it at Lowes. I will go with the heater replacement since it looks like that was the true problem to begin with. I'm not happy with the events. Replacing the heater will take several hours after he gets the part, probably a week. if the service company ( who also sells appliances) was where I bought it I'd feel like I have more traction because the labor costs must be high already.

I don't see much of dogs chasing anything. the dogs are used to the deer and vice versa. the deer tend not to hang out in dog occcupied lots. my nieghbor always had a dog until a coupel years ago when their last one passed on. took a year or so but now she's having the deer eating her stuff like the rest of us. we fence the vegies and try to plant ornamentals that don't suffer too much from getting grazed on.

I have come to the conclusion that I will not exercise until I get into the habit of exercising. I just came from the gym and paid for a two year membership. They are calling Monday about the trainer. I decided to start with 3 days a week until December and then see if I will do it on my own.

Joan

went on a bike ride this morning but DH got a flat tire about 2 miles into it. I was riding ahead and didn't realize he wasn't behind me for a mile. so went back to link up and his tube was gone but so was the sidewall of the tire. so I rode back to the car to get it to drive back and pick up DH. we have an extra tube but not an extra tire, and the tire would have flattened another tube in a few minutes so that was the only choice. so I got in maybe 8 miles total.

Joan, I have no argument with gyms.... I used to belong to one. but it was so darn hard to fit in the time to go, with the drive back and forth, that it didn't work long term for me. it IS motivating to see other people working out and does help get the rhythm going again. I was a member for a year or so. decided I liked working at home better but whatever works is good!

I'm really unhappy about the DW issue. I still can do the "workaround" to get the dishes washed but if the next repair doesn't do it I am going to get angry. what I regret is buying the DW from a big chain. If I'd known the smaller place (doing the repair) was going to service for the big chain i would have bought the DW there.

The gym is actually only a mile away. I don't need the gym I need the appt. I never missed an appt with a trainer when I was going 6 years ago. The trainer would cancel but in the 4 or 5 years I never canceled. I'm hoping just getting back into the habit will then get me started working out at home. But it will also be nice to have a spotter. I would like to lift heavier this time.

I was still working and traveling a lot when I belonged to a gym. it was not that far from where I lived but I had to go home to shower and change clothes unless I wanted to drag all my work clothes there. I liked weights, trying different machines, we didn't own any ourselves then.
we didn't continue ..our next house was a long drive. so we dedicated an area for exercise in each house since. I put it off... I've never been a morning exerciser if I have a choice. DH has to be at work early and a good part of the year it's too dark outside to run so we adjusted our routine. but whatever works! we will ride again this morning, got a new tire yesterday afternoon. the sidewall split.
