Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/25

I have a very non-connected family... brother uses cell phone but no computer. sister, land line only. she doesn't have an answering machine and can't use a computer. pretty much left behind by technology. doesn't even have much contact with her children because of it. kids these days don't talk on a telephone. my mother uses land line only but she's 93 so that's fine.
we kept the land line also for our home security system and to fax /receive faxes. as I recall, unbundling the phone/ TV/internet saved less than $10 a month and getting around that for the security system cost more. seemed like more trouble than it was worth. also, we have a big house. I have phones on each floor so I don't need to carry the cell if I'm gardening etc. I carry the cell when "out" but not around the house or the yard.

Deb how long has it been? I hate to take antibiotics if I don't really need to since some cause other problems...but if it's gotten beyond the head cold stage it might be time.

Hi ladies!

This morning I did Hard Strikes. Been ages since I have done this one. Felt really good. I did the cardio portion only then followed up with my own made up Tabata. Total workout ended up being about 35 mins.

Deb..yes it has been too long. Agree it is time for the Doctor.

Judy...that is great news about your SIL. Glad to hear she is stepping up and helping out. What a help for you two. Same here I use my cell phone for most communications. I love technology!

Valerie...we have one land line phone in the kitchen. It is one that has a handset connected by this unruly cord that is pretty much a coiled mess! We used to have a portable wireless but DS would use it then forget to put it back to charge. So when a call would come in the handset would be dead or we could not find it. So I got rid of them and now use this one. Problem solved. Not pretty but phone always works!

Hi to Josie and Garance!!!!!!

Good morning,

I could not sleep so got up and started the day. I am so tired of being sick. I started on an anti-biotic yesterday, hopefully it will do something.

I did find Lynda's e-mail and sent one to her. I hope everything is ok.

Valerie, I am like you...I don't use the cell phone unless I am not at home and need to call someone. The only time I find it helpful is if I am expecting a call, I can take it outside with me....but most of the time people call me on my land line anyway. I like my land line phone, it has a much better quality..etc. I have had the "cold" for 8 days now. Got it the day after we got back....I still think it's from the airplane air. Doesn't matter at this point. I just want it gone.

Judy, it is great that your SIL is staying with your FIL. You and your DH need a break, both physical and mental! It has to be a relief thinking that he has someone there with him for now anyway.

Lori...LOL you have that same land line and 50 ft cord that I have in the kitchen! We also have portable phones everywhere...living room, bedrooms etc. Yes, keeping them on the chargers is a challenge! I like being able to answer the phone no matter where you are. I am not one of those people that keeps their cell phone attached to them at all times. When I get home, mine goes into the charger on the kitchen counter and doesn't come off until I go to work the next day.

Hi to Josie,

Anyone have any fun plans for the long weekend?

Good afternoon ladies!

No workout this morning. Slept in as I worked late yesterday. I am home now, left the office at 3:00 to get a head start pn the long weekend.

I am about to do tabatacise then tabata heavy bag workout. After this going to walk chester. Poor dog has not gone all week. He'll be happy when I grab the leash. :D

Waiting to hear how my DH is making out at his doctors appt for his ankle. He broke it a year ago and it still causes him quite a bit of pain. He had a cortizone shot a month or so ago and it did nothing for him. Doctor told him the next step maybe surgery. Ugh...feel so bad for him.

Sorry you did not sleep well Deb and on top of being so sick this past week. You must be exhausted. Glad you emailed Lynda. Hoping there is a response and all is good.

Going to visit my son on Sunday. Taking his girlfriend with me so it will be a fun day. Other than going to see my son I have no plans for the long weekend and I am ok with it!

Chat with you all tomorrow!

Good morning all and Happy Weekend!

I will try agility class this morning, since I will not have class for the next 2 weekend, due to dog trials I am entered in. I'll take Kylee, less running for me!

Lori, Happy Tabata-ing! Hope the news on your DH was good...surgery or no?

No answer from Lynda....now I am really worried...

Hi to all, hope everyone is has a nice weekend!

Deb, I'm with you on the phones. we have 3 floors and since DH was on call often for 25+ years, it was so much easier with phones available where we were rather than trying to carry one. our phones work far enough outside working in the yard to ring & get a signal. also one outside our exercise room in the basement. we had 2 corded phones that often worked when the power went out. life will be simpler now that he's retired. still, running up or down stairs to answer is not ever a good plan, and I don't want to drag the cell everywhere.

I'm thinking this is too long for Lynda to be unavailable if it were a computer issue, especially if she has a working ipad Lets hope she gets back to us and lets us know she's OK. Not like her at all, so yes, I'm concerned now too.

I did burn sets bi's & tris on Thursday and yesterday we did a killer hike. about 9 miles with a lot of elevation gain. very steep but lovely. I go uphill fine no matter how steep but going back down is hell on my feet and knees. bottoms of my feet get shredded. this is not new, always been an issue for me. took us about 8 hours though we stopped and indulged in scenery often. so lovely. cooler and breezy, almost zero bug level. hard to believe it was a week ago when we ran screaming out of the same kind of area because of biting flies.

Lori, like you we have no big plans for the weekend. maybe a bike ride, a dinner with friends tomorrow. nice to feel no pressure to compete with people for space on a 3 day weekend.
