Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/24

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Caitlin--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit with Core 1 (49:22) and last night took Max for a 3 mile walk.

Deb, I cannot imagine going to a spa and not doing at least a couple of the spa treatments, but it looks like they have a lot of exercise workouts to do. I also just want some time with my bff. We seem to laugh a lot when we get together. Both on Friday and Saturday she decided to get made-up at a cosmetics counter in Macy's (first at Estee Lauder, then Clinique) and ended up spending a lot on cosmetics. She has mild rosacea, and the first day, the makeup artist (?) applied something with a slightly purple tint under the foundation, and the second day, a different makeup person applied something green under the foundation. Both of them really were miraculous, so she bought both of them plus a lot of other stuff. She probably won't use any of it, knowing her.

Caitlin, LLA (Lean Legs and Abs) is pretty easy for legs if you are looking for a lighter workout.

Lori, that book I recommended was recommended to my doctor by his sister, who is a psychiatrist, so maybe some of its techniques will also be used by your therapist.

Judy, your FIL sounds so fragile. That is a lot of weight to lose in a few months.

Well, my Yankee farmer DH has decided we need to take advantage of this crazy stock market and cash in on all the profits of his stock portfolio and buy a new car. Another CRV I'm sure, but we will keep the old one, and he will FINALLY get rid of his 1992 Civic (like I said, he's a Yankee farmer, and he will fix something FOREVER before getting rid of it). So, Labor Day we will do some car shopping.

This afternoon I am off to get some highlights, or as DH puts it, "blondied up."

Judy, when someone is having lung/breathing problems, it takes a lot more muscular energy to bring air in and out. It's called using "accessory muscles of respiration". since it goes on 24/7 and won't improve, he is burning a lot of extra calories just breathing, hence the rapid weight loss. expect he's not eating well either. Hospice should keep him comfortable until he passes. sorry, that's kind of direct. he could have other things going on too that are not worth researching or testing for since nothing can or will be done.

Caitlin, DH and I have taken to riding road bikes, mountain bikes, or a spin bike for good leg workouts with less impact. I do more Cathe workouts in winter.

went to yoga this morning but otherwise took the day off. tomorrow looks like a light day as weather doesn't look very good for the mountains.

Good morning and Happy Friday!

Well we had the new hot water pump installed yesterday but they didn't get to the AC unit because one of the installer called in sick. They said they would come back after we get the new electrical panel etc. Figures, more time for contractors to be around.

Caitlin, glad you like your HRM. My FT4 has been great for a long time now. Just battery changes, and with the new models you can do that yourself. I just buy the batteries at Walgreens. Do you have an AC unit for your condo?

Lynda, facials are my favorite spa treatment, I wish I could have one once a week! That is the problem with those make up demos or anything like that, you feel compelled to buy something after they do all that work. Have fun car shopping!

Judy, keeping you, your DH and FIL in my thoughts.

Valerie, I read a really good article on how yoga is very good for you...see below.
How Does Yoga Benefit Your Health?

Hi to Josie, and Lori,

Work, then agility class tonight. Anyone have any fun plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Deb, thanks for the link. I'll read it this morning if I have a chance. we're doing a "hike" with cousin and wife, not the long drive one because weather is marginal and the first destination is a huge view location but not worth the drive if it's all socked in with clouds, even if not raining.
wish I could do facials, but my rosacea is easily aggravated. totally invisible and not a problem if left alone. I use simple products, not many of them. it looks like a pleasant experience but by the time I get telling them what they can't use or do, it's not worth it. plus I'd worry for a week after expecting problems to result.

we will be around home for the weekend. weather forecast is not good and this is the last hurrah for crowds. we are planning on Jasper next week, unless the forecast is worse. right now it looks like wet the first 2 days and that's as far out as it went. if it's not better we might back it up a week.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Caitlin--

This morning I did Burn Sets bis and tris (37:15), and last night took Max for a 3 mile walk.

Deb, I will keep a facial in mind when I go. Don't you just hate having workmen invade? I don't think we will go to look at cars until Monday. DH has a new batch of chicks and he's off on Sunday to pick up a bunch of piglets. I'm not sure how good a deal we will get even with their famous Honda clearance. All of the deals involve trade-ins, financing, or leasing, and we plan on keeping our 2005 CRV and paying cash for a new car, so we will probably end up paying the manufacturer's price.

Valerie, my friend's skin is very sensitive too, but it was the mascara that she had a bad reaction to. The other stuff seemed designed for her problems. The only thing she made sure of was that there was no animal testing.

The town is crazy now with the return of the students and the parents helping them move in. Something else I don't miss--the return of the school year.

Hope you are doing okay, Judy. I'm sure it's very hard.

Good afternoon ladies!

I am off today YEAH!! Had my first therapy session today and I balled my eyes out. Was thinking I was going to practice breathing and tools to cope with my panic attacks but of course there is a root to the problem we need to find. Omg...talked about everything from birth to present day! Just wasn't what I was expecting. Silly me!!!!

It is really nice here today so I am about to try out Cathe's Live Spin class then take Chester for a nice walk. He'll enjoy this.

Deb...yes you would think I would love to run but I just never could enjoy it. I need to be on my TM watching a good movie. Otherwise I am bored to death! That stinks having the contractors back again.

Caitlin...I have a Polar FT4 also and love it when I remember to wear it that is. I am always forgetting to put it on. I agree with Lynda that LLA would be a good place to start.

Lynda...good luck with the car shopping. I bet your town is loaded with back to schoolers! You must get a lot of leaf peepers too?

Valerie...have a good hike. I stay away from facials too only becuase I use Retin-A which makes my skin sensitive.

Judy...did you get to try the live spin class? I'll let you know my thoughts. So sad hearing of your FIL's weight loss. He sounds so frail.

Hi to Josie!!!!

Have a great afternoon ladies. No plans for the long weeked other than catching up on housemax. :(

Hi Ladies,

Today is a rest day. Yesterday I did body pump and then met my ex-coworkers fir lunch to celebrate my birthday. It was a nice visit.

Tomorrow I plan on spinning and body pump. I'm invited to a baby shower, but I don't know if I want to deal with the traffic. It's about an hour away.

Judy, keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Deb, I have three spa certificates for facials that I received as gifts and are just collecting dust.
I don't really care for them and I get impatient laying there for an hour.

Caitlin, I used to be a marathon runner. I completed 12 of them, but had two bad falls and decided to stop running. My knees are fine, but decided to quit running anyway and took up cycling.

Lori, did you feel a little better after your session?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Josie

Good morning ladies!

Loved Cathe's Live Spin Class. Really felt I was right there with the group. I was a sweaty mess when I was done. Then took Chester for about a 3 mile walk. He was feeling great so we went a little longer. Gave him plenty of breaks and he stopped to swim a few times so it took us forever but he enjoyed it and I was in no rush.

Josie...yes I felt great after the end of the session. Really liked my therapist and she feels we will get to the bottom of these panic attacks. She did comment about the stress in my life (job!) and was really glad to hear that I work out regularly. I will visit with her every two weeks and see how this goes.

Caitlin...i went to actually use my Polar for my spin workout yesterday and the battery had died!! Thought that was funny. Perhaps if I remembered to use it more often I would have noticed the battery was getting low.

Have a great day everyone. Weather is going to be nice. Have not decided what workout is on the agenda today. I know one thing will be Housemax!

Good morning,

A nice 3 day weekend, should be good weather but expecting it to be very hot tomorrow and humid.

Valerie, have fun on the hike with the cousins. It's great that you and your DH are supporting them in their new venture.

Lynda, going into a car purchase with no trade, no loan is the best way to do it! You can really ask them to discount the MSRP, and you actually know what you are paying for the car.

Lori, that is great that you had a good experience with the therapist. HouseMax on the agenda for me too.

Josie, you should give those gift certificates to someone who would use them, or better yet, go yourself. you don't have to do an hour. That would be too much for me as well 30 minutes is the most I do.

Hi to Judy & Caitlin,

Take care,

Thanks for all your kind thoughts about FIL. Hospice is keeping him comfortable.

I didn't get a chance to do Cathe's live spin class yet but maybe I'll do it tonight or tomorrow. We are spending a lot of time with FIL so it's hard for me to plan anything right now.

Yesterday I did Power Hour. That was a great workout! Reminded me a little of Muscle Endurance, so I really liked it.

Good evening ladies!

Today I ended up taking chester for a walk then doing Suzanne Bowen's Tabata then Cathe's X10 cardio blast. Total workout was about 70 minutes (excluding walk). Chester demanded his walk first. :)

After working out I had the sudden urge to add a wall mounted barre and rearrange my workout area. I went on Pinterest for some DIY barre and then off to Home Depot I went. Wow I am exhausted from all the moving then installation of the barre. I decided to paint it at the end because it looked so dull. I'll finish up tomorrow and will post a picture. So far I am loving it!

Judy...sending prayers and strength to you.

DH is working so I am sitting by a fire with a glass of wine listening to Pat Benatar and totally enjoying the relaxation.

Have a great night all!
