Pentagenarians & Beyond : W/B 8/23

back from the ride and lunch. it was very nice out this morning, nice temp, lower than usual traffic, 2 hrs 10 min for 25 miles. this ride is always best on sunday because of less traffic overall. always stop at a farm stand and get some fresh berries, and today, a cauliflower. farm country. everthing is very fresh, just picked.

Valerie, I wish we had the farm stands here. I remember traveling and stopping at them, but not where I live. I need to go to the store. Grandchildren all week as far as I know, so I am not sure how I am going to do it. I ordered a couple of things from Amazon. I finally ordered the Figi Ginger almond butter to try since I am left with peanut butter in the house. Nice that the weather and traffic was good.

Carolyn, nice work with the yoga. I did not do a workout this morning. I went to church and came home and worked on the yard.

This morning I was supposed to do legs, but my back was being grouchy. So, I decided to do yoga, and then I was moving some things and realized a box of old sports cards, electronics, and pens, pencils and markers had fallen over and tossed aside the workout and spent the next hour sorting, getting rid of and putting away stuff. With a lot of Nick's stuff gone, it's a good time to get rid of some of the piles those I live with have created. I'm a minimalist at heart, and at this point the boys lean that way, but DH is not! So, I get rid of what I can. I ended up getting a lot of cleaning done in the basement anyway. My families weekly video chat is soon. Hi to everyone!

This morning I did LIS Upper Body Trisets for 62 minutes and 298 calories burned. My upper body feels well worked without over dumb things. I used lighter weights (8# and 10#) for biceps.

Diane Sue, has school started for your grandchildren? I hope the almond butter is fresh from Amazon. I always order directly from Big Spoon Roasters and they make it when they receive your order. I‘m not allowing myself to order any for a while since it’s so easy to eat too much of it.

Cathy, nice job getting in a yoga workout. Cleaning out clutter always leaves me with a sense of accomplishment.

Waving hello to everyone. Have a great day.

We hiked today, 4 1/2 hours. its a very very rough hike with an absolutely horrible trail. not even a trail really, and steep and muddy. hardly anyone goes there so we use it. its short and needs arm involvement to get up and down. but it was nice. not very clear weather but we don't have any smoke here ( from CA) and its not hot here. low 70's. a long drive on a very rough road. when we got back down to the hwy...that's where we saw the herd of elk grazing!
Carolyn I am still working on that jar of almond butter. diane sue, its worth the special order. not sure how we got it because DH got it as a gift after I said I'd like to try it. it is delicious. I could easily eat way too much. it is fabulous on some hot whole wheat toast.

we are lucky to have little farm stands all over mainly during fruit season. lots of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and some odd ones like marionberries, boysenberries, olallaberries . all good! usually crops that don't ship well so grocery stores usually don't carry them. also cherries, corn, cauliflower, rhubarb,. depends on the farm. we are in the area to ride so I bring cash to enjoy fresh picked crops. they are all so good and a nice break from big stores.

Deb where are you this week?

Valerie that sounds like an amazing, if tough, hike. And how cool to see a herd of elk!

Carolyn great job on the upper body workout.

I had a plan today that included a workout, but didn't fall asleep until almost 2 a.m., woke up at 6:45 and it wasn't happening. I'd already decided I was going to start doing the zoo on Mondays, so I did do that and walked 4 miles. Of course, it's supposed to workout and THEN go to the zoo. I readjusted my workouts for the rest of the week, so that I could get the one I was supposed to do in. I'm changing it up though and doing Step Sync tomorrow because I like it so much and I'm hoping it gets me back on track.

My boys are hockey fans-Islanders and Flyers (don't ask, no one I live with actually follows Michigan sports teams) and they play tonight in the playoffs so Derek has gone over to Nick's apartment to watch the game. Fortunately, they like each other so it will likely be limited to talk.

Today's workout was Coffey Fit Raw Your Moves, 45 minutes, 183 calories, heart rate 118/158, 2,342 steps followed by Kelly Coffey Super Sculpt premix drills and step, 22 minutes, heart rate 128/160, 115 calories, 1,799 steps. Total time was 67 minutes, 298 calories, 4,141 steps. The super sculpt mix is boxing moves with dumbbells and a really short step workout. I have grandchildren here. My granddaughter started her virtual school, but did not really need help. I need to figure out grocery shopping. I guess I should have went on the weekend, but I really did not want to go out with all of the people shopping on the weekend.
Kelly put up her virtual road trip upper body weights and lower body no weight workouts today. I will check them out later. My legs are still kind of sore from last weeks Kelly workouts. Several had a lot of lower body weight focus.
I thought about trying Cathe Live again, but then I was thinking that I have Kelly and the new workouts will come out. Plus when I got upstairs I had problems with no sound on the Amazon fire TV. I first pulled up the workout I did today and no sound so checked to see if a remote was muted, went out of Amazon and came back to try a different workout and still not sound. I changed to the dvd player and sound worked there. I went to Roku and tried Youtube and it would only play the games my 5 year old grandson was watching before and not go to my subscribed stuff. It wanted me to log in on my device which did not work or set up again. I just skipped it and went back to Fire TV and sound was back. It was a weird waste of my time.

Cathy, I do things like that all of the time and get side tracked from what I started to do. Like starting a workout and noticing a lot of dust on a shelf. It will start with me cleaning one and I just end up taking everything off the shelves, cleaning everything and putting it back which then leads to something else and before you know it I have spent a couple of hours. It feels good to get those things done though. :) We have both been clearing out a lot of stuff. Although my husband bought me new artificial flowers since I threw out the old dusty laden ones that I have had for the last 7 years. The ones he got are not so huge and look real. He keeps getting me things for my birthday this week:D Things I have had in my wish list on Amazon. I got new Adidas sports bra and capri leggings with pockets on the legs for a cell phone. I like them and they have a high waist instead of feeling like they are falling off.
Families do have a tendency to leave extra things lying around or out of place.

Valerie, that was a nice long hike. Your weather is much cooler than it is here. Funny, my husband saw that I had been looking at the Big Spoon Roasters and asked if I wanted it for my birthday. I was on the fence as to spending so much for that size Jar. Although I did buy a 25 dollar large jar of Nutzo 7 nut and seed butter which was a lot. It did not last long either. I love boysenberries. My mother and grandmother were always finding those somewhere and they went into jams and pies. I have not heard of the other two you mentioned. I have eaten gooseberries and choke cherries.

Carolyn, nice work with LIS Upper Body Trisets. I always liked the upper and lower workouts on separate days. The Big Spoon Roasters tastes great. I used it in a smoothie bowl for lunch. I did have to have a teaspoon this afternoon. I love the crystallized ginger in it. I can see why you wouldn't want to order it too much. I am hoping I can hold back eating a half a jar or something:p I thought it would be my birthday treat if it lasts till Thursday LOL. I have bought other specialty nut butters in the past and they went really fast. And I did not share. I wonder if Whole Foods carries it. I notice they have a jar number and the expiration date is July 29th 2021 so I am sure it is probably pretty fresh. My only concern was the heat. Walmart nut butters were terrible for awhile. I bought RX almond butter and the Nut and seed butter and they were both bad. Even one of the peanut butters was dried out and hard. I got gummy vitamins through Amazon that were Vita Fusion, but even though they had them in a foil insulated bag, they were all stuck together. So some things when it is hot outside you take chances on what you are going to get. Last time I bought nut butter at walmart I shook it around, squeezed the plastic jarred ones and stuff to see how I thought they were. I think being in glass jars is much better than plastic. The Nutzo tasted like the plastic jar.
Thinking of ginger, I love those ginger chews. I buy those in little boxes and end up consuming the whole box.

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Crush 2, 33 minutes, 210 calories, heart rte 143/171, 3,288 steps. I am going to go run and vote on a run off and I have grandchildren. Will check back in awhile.

Hike yesterday is not long mileage but it is so steep and brushy and muddy I was a muddy mess when I got back down. its one of the few hikes left for us that's not overrun with masses of people, mainly because the drive is long and very rough, and the hike itself is not really even a trail. this area has done well with lots of dotcom workers and big companies but every single one of them hikes and tells every person they know, and formerly lovely places are now getting loved to death. and I'm not sure what you call it when hundreds of people show up at a trailhead and spread out like the plague, but its not hiking any more.

I love ginger and its great in the almond butter. I've had it since april and down to half the jar so Ive shown great restraint.
I live where I do because of the climate. I don't enjoy the wet winters much but DH and I manage to stay active all year. we can ride here most of the winter. summers are not hot with exception of a few days. I don't enjoy water sports so no loss there. after about 80 degrees I get more and more dysfunctional.

This morning’s workout was LIS Lower Body Trisets. That was 43 minutes and 222 calories burned. My average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate was 144.

Valerie, great hike yesterday. You are fortunate to live in an area where you can enjoy your preferred outdoor activities.

Cathy, I’m sorry that you didn’t get much sleep. That makes it very hard to get much done, including a workout. I did Step Sync last week for the same reason—it’s a fun workout.

Diane Sue, nice job with Coffeyfit Raw Your Moves and Super Sculpt premix yesterday, and Raw Cardio Crush today.

Deb, we miss you here. Please check in.

Hello to Judy and Lori.

Carolyn I moved here because I was sure I would enjoy outdoor activity and it was not available to me in wisconsin. too cold, too hot, no mountains, and mosquitos. my allergies were difficult too. I was sure Id like hiking although I'd never done any. I liked it more than I imagined. 50+ years later, here I am.

we mt biked this morning 2 hrs 10 min and 8.5 miles. a lovely morning. trails are so smooth and buffed right now, and if we go early hardly anyone there. trails aren't open in winter so gotta do it now!

Cathy have you ever tried benadryl nights you cant sleep? I keep advil PM ( ibuprofen benadryl) handy. I use it when I have trouble sleeping. its OTC. works for me. the advil part probably helps too, easing any minor aches. I never had luck with melatonin or anything else.

Deb where are you?

Well I did do Step Sync today-at 5 a.m. Woke up before 4 and finally just got up and did it. Was certainly nice to get it out of the way so early, but not something I really want to keep doing. By 8 I was ready to go back to bed, but then I got some energy back and actually managed to get some cleaning done.

Valerie I'm not fond of heat either. We've been blessed with cool nights all summer, mid-50's to mid-60's but we get streaks of 85-90 during the day. Just glad that by bed time, I can open the window again. I haven't tried Benadryl. Giving Melatonin a try now, but so far it doesn't appear to be helping much. I have problems on both ends. I either can't fall asleep or I wake up and can't go back to sleep and there's no pattern.

Diane Sue great workouts! Hope things go smoothly with the grandkids.

Carolyn that was a good workout you got done. I see workouts others are doing and think, I should pull that out and do it, but I can't do them all. LOL

Hi Everyone,

Sunday I did a Peloton ride and got caught up on housecleaning. Yesterday I did an older KCM, "The Shape of Things to Come" and today I did ICE Muscle Meltdowns Back, Shoulders & Triceps.

Deb-I hope everything is ok. We miss you here.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the Raw workouts! I finally got my new KCM DVDs. I'm going to try Super Sculpt next week. I hope things go well with your grandkids.

Valerie-Great job with the mountain biking! We still haven't gotten out yet. We were talking about it last night. We really need to get some riding in before winter.

Cathy-Great job with Step Sync! I agree with Valerie about Benadryl. I have Advil PM and it does help when I can't sleep.

Carolyn-Great job with Upper and Lower Body Trisets! I need to do that one again soon.

Hi to Lori!

Today was busy. I went to Sprouts for a couple of things when I went to vote. I need to find something to entertain my grandson. He wants to make cookies again. Last time I made a small batch. He helps. He was not a fan of the peanut butter protein balls, but his sister sure liked them. I think next week he will be starting his school. I think it is virtual. I don't always understand exactly what to expect here. My daughter said something about picking up an i pad for him.

Valerie, you have more restraint than I do with the almond butter and ginger. I had some twice today. That is weird that you discovered an order on your account like that. I did have Amazon bill me for a digital book a while back that I did not purchase. I let them know I did not buy it and they refunded me. I have had a couple of account user names over the years. I even had one with my dog's name once. My husband quit facebook about 3 weeks ago.

Judy, I never could understand why someone would want to hack my body building page anyway. Why would they do that? They could have made their own. I never purchased A New You Coming from Kelly's workouts. She did not put those older ones on her dvds on Raw. I have wondered if they are too hard to put up.

Carolyn, nice work with lower body trisets today.

Cathy, I keep doing that with sleep. Last night I was so tired, crawled into bed at 11:30 and stared at the ceiling not falling asleep. I woke up multiple times and got up before the alarm went off. Which makes me think, it is almost 11 now and I really do need to try to sleep. I hope that you can get some tonight. You chose a fun workout to do which always helps.

diane sue, the issue was there was no amazon order, but this showed up in the inbox and looked exactly like an email order statement from amazon. nothing was incorrect except of course we hadn't ordered the stuff, and probably it was all fake. it was an attempt to get us to click on it and, I assume, get other information from us like pw or cc #s. we've had times when people stole our cc #s and ordered stuff, but those get flagged by the cc company and you are not responsible for fraudulent changes. this was different. we didn't use the link in the statement but called amazon fraud line directly about it. I don't think like a criminal! I always suspect fB as a source for hacks but its so common these days I dont know if anyone ever tracks these down, but just issue you new cards if needed, advise changing pw etc.
a few years ago we attended a wedding in Reno. everyone in our family got their cc #'s hacked even tho we stayed at different hotels and ate at different restaurants, did not all rent cars, and used different rental companies. I called the reno PD but no one was interested. I thought it showed someone was accessing cc#'s at a level above the actual businesses where the card was first used. I'll never know. we had to get new cards and it was only because I checked with family and found many of us had been hacked there.

we will ride the local trail this morning. all this talk about the ginger almond butter decided my snack this morning!

This morning I did RWH Low Impact HiiT One which was 29 minutes and 216 calories burned. My average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 159.

Cathy, 5 a.m. is an early workout, but at least you got it done. I worked out early like that for many years until I retired five years ago. Now I prefer a more leisurely routine in the morning. I hope you can find some relief for the sleep issue.

Judy, nice job with the Peloton ride.

Diane Sue, you have your hands full with the grandchildren. Making cookies will be a fun project. My 12 year old granddaughter has really taken to baking since I gave her the Young Chef’s Club subscription. She has made all of the family birthday cakes this summer in addition to making bread and baking cookies.

Valerie, enjoy your ride this morning.

Hello to Lori and Deb.

Popped on for an update....We are Floridians!! So far we love it. Apartment is nice and we love the complex. Nice walking paths for GiGi. The only workout I have done since arriving here on Saturday is walk GiGi twice a day for about 35 mins each walk. Fast paced and a good workout. Our moving truck has not arrived yet!!!!! We‘re not happy about this at all Thank goodness I packed the car with clothes (including bathing suites) towels, toiletries and some essentials. My new employer asked me to come in today to meet everyone and have a tour of the office. I made the best of the clothes I had, but have no hairdryer or styling tools. Yikes! Not the best look for me! Hahaha!! I warned them and they laughed. I ended up wearing a cute hat I had packed. fortunately the office is casual.

The apartment complex is huge on masks and social distancing. We like this alot.

Judy the gym here has peloton bikes. Thought of you and can’t wait to try one out when things are better with covid.

Carolyn..I am going to hate early morning workouts again. I start working again on Monday. The good thing is I am only 15 minutes away from the office instead of 50 minutes. This will give me more time to get a walk in with GiGi. She is spoiled with our morning routine. :).

Valerie...I have received a few fake amazon emails. They are so sneaky and really make it look like it is coming from amazon. I love almond butter. Never thought to add ginger. Hmmmm need to try this out.

Diane Sue...I was hoping there would be a Sprouts somewhere but no. I do like Publix (first time we have been in one). I also saw a Hobby Lobby. We do not have these in New England. I need to go in just so I can say I have been in one!

Cathy/Valerie...We are loving the heat!!!!!! I walk GiGi early and by the lake so there is a nice breeze. Usually it has been around 80ish. Then in the evenings it has been 90/92 when we go. I make sure GiGi and I are completely hydrated before, during and after our walks and we both have done well.

Hi Deb!! Hope you are well!

Have a great night all!
