Still ok cause Keegan is doing really well, and I am sleeping in my bed!

I am going to try to get a workout in today, have to get back on track or none of my clothes will fit!

Garance, not sure if you saw this post, but I keep thinking about how to use this series in a rotation, since they are all so different.....http://cathe.com/forum/f115/hardest-easiest-284451/

It's raining with thunder and lightening here, joy. Love taking out a puppy in the rain...

Off for more coffee to wake up. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

Deb, I agree on these workouts. So much variety and so many options. I will probably try to fit them in with this round of STS (if they are in my hot little hands by September), so the cardio will take up three days, and I will use the barre workout for my legs as I've been doing with STS. That's great news about Keegan getting back to normal so everyone can settle down. How has John been with his dizzy spells? Next weekend I will be going to Jacob's Pillow two days in a row for Mark Morris on Saturday and Kyle and Camille on Sunday. That will end the season.

We are having a cookout today, and I made a big tortellini salad to go with the pulled pork--and some other stuff. My trusty Joy of Cooking.

I think you have earned equal energizer bunny status with Josie, Valerie. That's a lot of cardio. Too much time for me and then, I am risk averse after all my injuries.

Enjoy the waning days of summer, everyone!

Good morning,

well it's the start of another week, a full one for me this time. No workout this morning, I was up at 2:00 with Kylee, and she woke me up again at 4:30. Now Keegan just got up, and we found that he just p'd at the top of the stairs. I thought he was done with this but I guess not.

John's still having the dizzy spells, had one yesterday. He is ok if he keeps the patch on, but he doesn't like the way it makes him feel otherwise. He goes back to the ENT 9/8. I sure hope they have some type of plan that he can try to alleviate this.

Hi to Valerie, Josie, Joan & Cathy.

Off to get ready for work, take care.

Garance, so you will use just the cardio ones, ( which I guess is the step one), until you are done with this round of STS? Mmmm....not sure how I will use them. It seems like most are weights, circuit, and conditioning, the ones with the sliding discs. I probably won't even try the step one, could never do her step workouts, and since I don't have a spin bike, and not planning on getting one, that one will go up on Ebay. I guess it will be fun trying to figure out a rotation with the rest of them, minus the yoga.

Did the plan and did a 30 mile bike ride yesterday. weather changed to cloudy today and it might rain a little. we actually could use it. things dry out quickly without rain in summer. I am taking a day off unless I decide to do something later. I might, because I wanted to do some shopping tomorrow and then I wouldn't need to cram in a workout somewhere.

I can't do ANYBODY's step workouts. I'm completely befuddled beyond stepping up and down or up and over. KPC was a major challenge for me! I will probably want a few from the newseries but it looks like 2 or 3. I have workouts I've hardly used sitting here. DH and I do enough other stuff ...I don't want more cardio especially this time of year. that makes sure I don't get sick of the workouts I have too.

Deb, a few mistakes are probably going to be the rule for a while. 3 steps forward, 1 step back.

even with all the cardio I don't lose an ounce. and I don't go crazy on food after but eat my normal amount. after hikes I have a beer and a few chips of some kind, that I count out.
Lynda & Deb, what products do you use for flea control? I use Revolution on my cat and am happy. my brother/mother are having a big flea problem. I don't know if this year is worse than usual? I use it from about april to november here and haven't had a problem in years. I thought that if you didn't use "something", and you have cats/dogs, that you would have fleas. my mother has indoor cats and never used anything but my brother got a new dog and apparently didn't treat it and now it's a HUGE issue. and the dogs are transferring the problem everywhere they go. I'm very sensitive to flea bites so I'm aggressive about treating.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and any later posters--

This morning I did Sweat Express II (57 min.).

Deb, you sound like you have your hands full with a demanding puppy, a much-loved dog recovering from surgery, and John, who probably keeps you worried. (((Deb))). Well, I guess it depends on when SNM has these ready for us. I want to finish STS before going the whole way with these. I have always loved Cathe's step. Probably my favorite step routine of all is Rhythmic Step. It's just plain brilliant. Also love Step Blast Cardio and Weights. I think Cathe's step is a lot easier than some--something about the way she puts the moves together so they flow easily.

I will check with DH about fleas, but I know he uses something. Max does not have fleas, and we have never had a dog with them. The stuff that is out now makes flea control pretty easy, so it sounds like your brother has created a problem rather than preventing it. You don't need more cardio, Valerie. And if you don't like dancy stuff, you shouldn't waste money.

Wow, my nephew, who does not have an ounce of flab and is 6 feet tall, eats like a horse!!
Three sausages, two pulled-pork sandwiches, a healthy serving of cheese tortellini, cole slaw, baba ghanouj, hummus, cheeses, crackers, pita wedges, olives, and two sundaes with fudge and caramel, Heath bar chips, whipped cream, and a big brownie. Yikes!

you nailed it Lynda, he created the problem. the vet TOLD him the dog had fleas and as far as I know he didn't do anything about it. Now he has a huge problem that could have been prevented with a $10 dose of some flea product. for some reason, he always thinks people are trying to screw him out of money but by not following some simple procedure, he now has an expensive problem. now there are 2 houses and approximately 15 (possibly) animals involved.
I know some products are only from vets, some are OTC, some only for dogs, some go by weight etc. I was planning a visit there in fall, but I'm extremely allergic to flea bites. I know not everyone is, but if there is a flea in 50 yards, it will find me. and then of course with the fleas often come tapeworms.

and therein lies my other problem, I'm not 6 feet tall! that sounds like my total weekly calories... .

Tell him he needs an exterminator for both houses and to remove the animals, bathe them, and then get something from the vet for all of them. Maybe he will have to shave off all of his hair, too, and fumigate his clothing.Tapeworms? Bubonic plague? Who knows? (Sorry--I just saw the trailer for a new film coming out called CONTAGION.) Is this the brother who also hoards stuff? This might make it even harder to get the fleas out of there. Talk about self-inflicted wounds!

Up at 3:00, and again at 5:00. At least she is waking me up to go outside. Beats cleaning the crate.

Lots of
sFun_coffeeaddict.gif
needed today.

Valerie, we use Advantage Flea & Tick, but I am not too confident that it works so well. The fleas have to bite the animal in order to die, kind of defeats the purpose. I am always looking into something better, but can't find anything out there. I agree with Garance, he needs a flea bomb in both houses, then some heavy duty treatment on the animals themselves.

Garance, I would be interested in what you are using for Max as well.

Well off to get ready to leave for work, take care,

Thanks you are confirming what I was quite sure of. I haven't had a dog in ages. we only had flea collars, baths & bombs occasionally but this was 20 yrs ago before all the new products. sometimes a few fleas would get in I could tell because I'd get bites. DH didn't. then we'd bomb.

I talked to him last night and he still thinks he can control it with less intense measures. my mother has 2 cats ( of 5) that hide in the basement when he and his dogs are there so plus he doesn't have enough carriers for all of them at once. Yes, he is the brother who is the "collector". I don't like to call him a hoarder at least not until I've seen it myself.

even if you kill all the fleas on the animals, there is a supply of potential new fleas everywhere the animals have been. a flea can lay 50 eggs/day and some hatch right away, others can be dormant for a long time. I am taking my cat in for a routine check today & will see if my clinic has anything printed up that explains it. there's probably online things too. I talked to one person who said in her area Frontline doesn't work very well anymore, fleas are building a tolerance to it. so there may be regional differences too.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and anyone else who shows up--

This morning I did disk 16 for ch, sh, tris (64 min.).

Valerie, DH uses K9 Advantix, which works for a variety of critters--ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, blood flies, etc. It really seems to work well, given Max's continual outdoor activity in grass, the woods, the barn. I don't think it's for cats, though, given the K9 prefix. You should try to convince your brother to get an exterminator for the houses, because that's really the only thing that is going to work.

Deb, this is what the vet recommended for Max. I don't know if it's because he's a farm dog, though. Is it as cool and fall-like up there as it is here? Great sleeping weather, but I hate that summer feels like it's over already.

Did you win anything in Las Vegas, Josie?

Cats and dogs need different products. I think the companies try to name the products clearly so the wrong thing doesn't accidentally get used. Most people would "get" that if it says K9 it's not meant for cats. Max would need full coverage product because he gets exposed to a lot more. Deb's dogs probably get exposed to a lot less since they're not "outdoor" dogs. ticks are especially nasty. heartworm is another thing that's not an issue here but I know other places it is.

ended up taking the day off yesterday anyway. tomorrow we're doing a ride. then struggling with what to do with our 5 days off this weekend. I wanted to backpack but there's too much snow on the west side of the mts, and it looks like it will be too hot on the east side of the mts. Snow is mostly gone there but I don't do well in hot temps. the bug season is very late this year, usually it would be over by now but this yr it's barely starting. we may need to come up with something else.

Josie, Joan and Cathy, hope all is well.... vacation season?

Good morning ladies,

It feels like fall has arrived, chilly morning here. I won't bother you with sleepless puppy night whining.

Garance, Did you feel the earthquake? I didn't feel a thing, but my assistant who sits right outside of my office did. Weird. I want to go see The Help. I guess I will need to find someone to go see the movie with. John is not a movie person. Thanks for the flea info. I think we have Advantage, but not Advantix.

Valerie, Fleas are definitely nasty bugs! If you are allergic, that can be terrible. Some dogs are allergic and it is a challenge. I hope your brother takes care of it, however he needs to.

Off for more coffee so I can stay awake hopefully today. Kylee goes for her final round of puppy shots so after today we can take her for walks around the neighborhood instead of just having her in the yard.

Take care,

So far I think he's trying baths with flea shampoo, vacuuming, and some sprays. I don't think it will work, certainly not quickly. every flea bite I get lasts 1-2 weeks and becomes a red scabby sore. I scratch in my sleep. they settle down for a few days and then flare up again. so I am really careful about not getting bitten. other people seem to either not get bitten, or don't even notice it. I wish.

Oh well, I'll check back with him in a week or two, I told him what he needs to do.

Did High Reps yesterday. mostly I like it but it goes faaaaaast. some of the exercise groups are fine, others I can't get my stuff set up quick enough. If I took the time to write out a work sheet and record weight used, it would be better. I have part of it written but not all. something like the work sheets for STS.
I use paper plates and when the humidity is high they don't slide! they kept getting stuck on the floor and not sliding.

we're getting the weather forecast now for our time off and it stinks. It's going to be hot, too hot to hike. mid to upper 80's. bugs get really frenzied when it's that hot. I've run screaming down a mountain because I couldn't stand it. too hot to wear full length sleeves and pant legs and a head net. I wish bug sprays worked but they don't on flies. Every 5 day mini vacation we've had this year has been stymied by weather issues. so we will come up with something else. I really wanted to backpack and all year it's been cold and rainy, and now the opposite problem. we've had weeks of pleasant weather but no time off. now we have the time, and it's too hot. for the first and only time the entire year.

I'd like to see that movie too, but will wait for the DVD.. on my wait list. luckily DH likes movies too, though not always the same ones I like. we both enjoy a lot of the TV series but only after they're on DVD. DH's bit of intolerance is for commercials... won't watch anything with commercials, and I have to say I've gotten pretty cranky about them myself. some daytime TV is more commercials than content.

We've had earthquakes here... they're pretty upsetting. the biggest one I've been in was when DH and I were off xc skiing. we'd settled down for lunch and were sitting in the snow when we heard this roar, coming closer and closer. and then the vibrations...we were both tossed up and down and sideways, and then you could hear the roar fade off into the distance. we headed down and back home but we had no damage to our house although other areas were hit pretty hard.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Bootcamp Boogie (63 min.).

I'm going to see The Help next week, Deb. I would have gone this weekend, but I'm going to two dance performances at Jacob's Pillow. I actually prefer to go to matinees and by myself. My tolerance for noisy people in the audience is really low, and I have discovered that afternoons midweek are very poorly attended and perfect for me. I did not feel the earthquake and don't think it really reached this far north. Your assistant must be imagining things.

If I had that kind of reaction to a flea bite, Valerie, I would definitely not want to visit your brother. If the infestation is as bad as you suggest, flea powder and vacuuming is not going to solve the problem IMHO. Isn't there something else you could do on your mini-vacation?

Off to get some highlights this afternoon.

Valerie,

PM your e-mail address and I will send you the workout sheet for High
Reps....

If anyone else wants it, let me know.

Garance, I have your e-mail address so just let me know if you want it.

Deb

I get a pretty bad reaction to fly bites too but fleas were the worst. haven't had one in years but that kind of thing usually doesn't get better.
it is not a mini vacation. I haven't seen my mother in about 7 years. she is over 90 now and doing fine but I don't want to wait until the last second. my sister I have no contact, she drives everyone nuts, me included. me especially. my brother has been more available by phone lately but I haven't seen him in at least 20 years? He was never there when I went back to visit.

because of the ongoing issues there, I'd already planned on staying at a friends house or a motel. the flea issue is just another reason. I itch just thinking about it.

Thanks Deb. I never came across a work sheet for HR. Where did you get it? thought I'd do my own but I didn't do a good enough job. TIA.

we are probably still going to do a backpack, just in a different area and shorter. if it's crummy we won't be committed to a long trip. It's such a weird year weather-wise.

Hi all,

Things going along here as normal. Kylee went to her first vet appointment yesterday and everything turned out fine, She was a little angel according to John. Keegan goes Saturday to get his stitches out and we get to ask all the questions regarding how not to have this happen again.

Valerie, hope you can open that document.

Garance, some people as far north as Toronto felt the earthquake, it was strange that's for sure. The Washington monument now has a crack in it and they are closing it until it is fixed.

Hair cut and color, plus pedi tonight after work, I really need it!

Take care,

Deb, it worked! thanks. I don't have Excel and as you may remember, have had problems getting it to work but this time it seemed like 3 options, and I got it to print except for triceps. for some reason it cuts off before the end but I will just write those in, I think. I'll go back and look but I think I have some half a&&ed spreadsheet program that doesn't translate the whole page. or else my printer is too old. I may try DH's set up, he has a newer computer & printer but I don't think he has Excel either.

Did a 26 mile fast paced ride yesterday. went well. 2 hours, even with a snack break at halfway and the usual unpredictable stops for traffic at road crossings. for some reason most drivers were very polite. one truck in particular who waved me across in front of him, and when I caught up with him at the next intersection, he waved me across again.

my understanding about earthquakes is that the sensations we feel are largely due to the composition of the ground underneath , through which the vibrations are transmitted. we had areas of very severe damage where the ground almost "liquified" and other places barely felt it. all within short distances from each other. How deep the quake is centered is a factor too.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 18 for back and bis (60 min.)

Deb, I never bought HR. I figured it was another version of Power Hour or Jari Love's Chiseled and Ripped. You could use a bit of pampering after your trials and tribulations. My problem is that I really hate cap highlights because of the cap. Feels so good when it's pulled off. Anyway, I'm all blondied up.

Valerie, you said you had a 5 day mini-vacation coming up but couldn't do the big outdoor thing because of the heat. That's what I was referring to--not a visit with your brother and mom. I had a couple sisters who couldn't get along at all and one sister who could not manage to deal with our mother. I was the youngest and seemed to get along with all of them, but different relationships with each of them.

Looking forward again to Project Runway tonight.

Sounds like Irene is going to blow in on Sunday, ruining our final day at Jacob's Pillow. Darn!

No, darn, DH's computer won't print it either though he has a newer system, much newer printer. I'm thinking iof it's put together with Excel that it won't print correctly. I can print thru to triceps, and will just write them down after than. Deb, where do you get these? Does someone post them on the forums somewhere? maybe if I went direct to the source I could print it directly rather than being passed thru your system.

Lynda, I misunderstood. visiting family is never called a "vacation", is it? at least not MY family.... they all think I moved west to get away from them, but it really wasn't ever about them. putting some distance between was a bonus! I'm the oldest.

we are still wrestling with the coming 5 day. the weather forecast keeps shifting but we are thinking we will maybe do things from here and maybe a kayak trip if we can find something suitable. we need something with gear/ guide is provided, not that experienced ourselves. nice for a day. we did one last year when this same thing happened, too warm for the mts.
Hope Irene doesn't cause huge problems for everyone.
