Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/15

Good morning & happy Friday!

sitting here with a sleeping puppy on my lap, if I could just stay here all morning. :(. I am so looking foward to the weekend. We were supposed to be at a Scottish festival that our dog club participates in every year where we set up and do agility demos. This would have been the first year Keegan would have participated. Obviously he cannot do it this year. He is getting a lot better, no more blood, no accidents and he seems to be able to hold it for some length of time at last. I may still block him in the kitchen for at least the morning, to make sure before giving him the run of the downstairs again. I slept on the floor again with him until midnight, then we both slept on the couch. he was fine.

Valerie, I can't imagine a hike in August where you have to take an ice axe! I remember the "alarm clock wrapped in a towel" trick. We did that with the first puppy I got, and she didn't fall for it either! I remember her being in a cardboard box on the side of my bed ( I was 14 at the time), and she kept crying, and crying so I scooped her up, brought her in bed with me and she slept with me for 14 years after that.

Garance, I would be interested in doing a rotation with the new DVD's. I think the Herriott series is on public TV here, and they are constantly re-running the series. I love the first couple of years, while Tristan ( Sigfried's brother) was still on, and Siegfried was still the head vet. Remember Tricky-Woo? We still use the term " cracker dog" when the dogs all of a sudden go running around for now reason, like something has gotten into them.

What's everyone have planned for the weekend? My brother has his annual Flamingo Party tonight, I think I will only go for a little while.

Take care,

Deb, most of us can't imagine we need ice axes either! this is so weird and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Usually we have much warmer conditions early in the season causing fast melt out and then we had much more snow than usual. there are significant roads that are still buried.
we're doing a hike again saturday with another couple and then will maybe bike on sunday. or maybe take a garden day.
Lynda, I wear over-ankle boots and but my ankles flex easily, outward. I don't "sprain" because they flex so readily, but it's a balance issue on uneven ground.

glad Keegan is so much better. Now to find out what caused the stones so you don't need to repeat this process. old clocks used to be much louder, maybe that's why they worked so well. kittens used to fall for it every time.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Fat Burning Fusion (46 min.).

Deb, I do remember Tricky-Woo. I loved all the early episodes, with Siegfried ruling over his poor brother and playing the upper class thing to the hilt. I've seen Robert Hardy in a lot of things, but his Siegfried is really the best. Sounds like Keegan is enjoying all the pampering. How is Kylee dealing with all of the arrangements? Be careful, or you will be sleeping on the floor with both of them while DH snores in the bedroom. (Just kidding.) SIL, BIL and niece and nephew coming this weekend, so we are going out on Saturday night at FIL's expense, and then having everyone over for a pulled pork fest on Sunday. Can't believe August is going by so fast.

Valerie, do your ankles pop when they flex outward? I know you have mentioned having no flexibility in your hips. Sounds like you have some crazy joints, girl!

Have a great weekend everyone!

No, ankles don't pop, but they can easily flex outward and knock me off balance. they used to be worse when I was a kid and I sprained them regularly. haven't done that in decades but always take care. My hips.. I didn't realize they were "tight" until I started doing yoga and saw all these people ( not everyone) sit cross legged and with their knees flat or almost flat to the ground. Mine are way up in the air, and even that's stressful. actually, that's why I decided to take a yoga class. I'll never get to lotus, even my instructor agrees so I do what I can and don't worry about it. I'm really strong in that area so it's not really a negative unless you are enamored with lotus, fire-log, or shoelace position. most people have areas of more or less flexibility. most of my other parts are pretty flexible.

Mostly I wanted to check in to say I finished STS again. No problem with the last chest/back disks. My time line has been really stretched out so I decreased weight to 60 lbs on the chest press ( only that one) instead of 65. no spotter and I won't risk getting hurt. also did a section of Coremax. I didn't do the plyo legs this time but subbed LBB since we've been doing so much hiking and biking. will do High reps, STS total body, and LBB for a while until I want to do another rotation.

Have a great weekend everyone.
I like a clear timeline for STS so I know I won;'t get interrupted. momentum helps and not getting too spread out time wise is how I think it works best. you never know if you should back up and repeat or go forward if you've had an interruption.

Good morning!

Success! We had a normal night in bed, with 2 dogs in crates, no sleeping on the floor or couch. Nice.

Valerie, do you have to drive far to get to the places where you end up having to use the ice axe? It would seem you would need to be pretty high up to find that kind of weather in August. Good job on STS!

Garance, no more Jacob's Pillow?

Hi to Joan, Josie, & Cathy,

Take care,

Deb, it's not huge mileage to get to these places but usually there's a section on FS (forest service) roads that's gravel so need to drove slower. took us about 1.5 hrs to drive there yesterday. most trips the drive is 1 to 2 hrs. each way. we go early AM. we took a young couple with us yesterday both MD's, the woman works at DH's office. her DH is military. we took them up on a slope of mt baker to teach them ice axe & glissade and had a wonderful time. we wore them out! it is very ego massaging to see two 30- yr olds get whipped! we all had a had a great time! they were more daring than I am, too fast makes me nervous so I have control when I'm sliding. I broke my tailbone a couple years ago doing this so that made me more cautious. it took us almost 8 hrs RT, plus the drive. some time lounging in the sun on rocks like marmots. we went to the same general area as about a week ago but this is a less crowded trail. This is a very atypical year, usually we are finished with places we can use an ice axe by late july. this was around 6000 feet, still tons of snow. could not believe we were the only ones up there.

I can't believe the cardio I did this week, at least 20 hours ... 2 8 hr hikes and 1 4 hr bike ride is all I can remember but will get a couple more hours on a bike this morning. just a short one.

Wonderful that all is back to normal in the household.
