Traildoggie
Cathlete
I'm back!. a day early. we did the ride we planned... covered 2 days. It's a paved trail converted from an old railroad line. we based ourselves at a campground in the middle and rode out and back from the "middle spot" both directions. one day was 27 or so miles, the next 37. the second day was especially nice with some big hills. we were a little tentative going out since you don't want to get going too fast if you don't know what's at the bottom... the ride back was faster. some sections were completely in trees with no visible or audible "civilization' , another section was long isolated beach. that part had gravel in parts yet, though they were working on it as we rode through. still.... skinny tires need to go slow on loose gravel. most of the trail is in the rain shadow of the Olympics so warmer and drier, almost California-like.
camping wasn't bad.. this time of year can be awful. just one group in the campground had a shrieking child. wow. she was apparently having "fun" but shrieked in a tone that could crack windshields... for hours! I don't understand how parents can allow that to go on and on. we were not even that physically close but the sound carried.
Lynda, how did DH tear his rotator cuff? I don't remember you saying that before. and yours? Do you think it was this connected to STS in any way? that was how I hurt mine. I let it rest for a couple months and then started up slowly doing only moves that didn't bother it. I was lucky, mine healed on its own but it doesn't hurt to get a professional opinion.
deb, good luck on the trip. it's sad to see sometimes but also can make you feel better when they eventually pass... that it was time, and that they weren't having ant fun anymore. .
