Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B: 8/1

Good morning.

Garance I am so glad it went well and you are on the mend!

Spent most of the morning getting the dogs ready to go. John is taking them on his way to work today. I miss them already and they are right under my feet.

I think I've eaten low fat for so long that anything really fatty feels like I ate a bowling ball. It takes a while for me to feel satisfied and if it's too rich, I can eat too much before I get the "time-to-stop" sensation. I get some fat, mostly olive oil. I use a home made vinaigrette on my salads, which are huge, and get some nuts every day. and I do love cheese though I watch portion size. I can easily eat WAY too much cheese.
I don't think it takes a lot to absorb fat soluble vitamins but often people don't absorb things as well ( except, of course, calories) as they get older.

Lynda... great news. Us folks that are in decent shape can often start PT sooner than people in not so good condition. with the approval of the surgeon, of course. I had ACL surgery a few years ago, and was on the exercise bike sunday morning after friday surgery. for 10 minutes. with doctor approval.

Thursday

Hi,

Getting ready to go to the airport...have a good week all!

Garance, if you are checking in, hope you are healing quickly!

Take care,

Deb

Did disk 33 tuesday late afternoon, and a 35 mile bike ride yesterday. I'm having problems getting the right weight. my 15's with weighted gloves aren't enough to challenge, but the 20's are too much, like for concentration curls. I looked up "plate mates".. I think deb mentioned them?... but my larger dumbbells are hex rubber ones. so magnetic things won't work. so I ordered some 2.5 lb wrist weights. I should be able to work up with some combo of 2.5 and 1 lb gloves to 20's. It's funny, there were several exercises where suddenly the 15's with gloves felt too easy to do much good.

Made a really good dinner the other night that's extremely simple. started with a grilled chicken breast. sliced it over 2 ww tortillas. added a small amount of pepper jack cheese and a sliced nectarine. a little salt and pepper. top with another ww tortilla. toast in a pan with a piece of foil on top and a another pan on top to weight it down. Flip when the first side is toasted. Very fast and very tasty. pepper jack has a lot of flavor so it's easy to control the amount. the down side is you can only do one at a time but they don't cook too long and stay warm.

deb, that is what i want to do. but, i don't know how to do amazon and ebay. and , i need to do it at my sons and when i'm there, my g/kids kinds of consume my time. but, i really need to do that. i just sold 3 of them, so, i have the rest of them. thanks

can't remember what i posted last. anywya, today i did the firm's super cardio sculpt, & yesterday i did aerobic body shaping w/10 m. of superset leg work added to it. then, tonite i was riding horses and i am so sore from yesterday and then from riding tonite.

tomorrow is another aerobic/weight workout and then i'm gonna go swimming with my grandkids. so, busy day.
have a great weekend if i don't get back.

Good morning,

Deb is going to California.

I did a little treadmill yesterday. I always forget how much the laser procedure takes out of me. I'm always worn out for a week. I have lowered calories this week because I haven't done much. Not only exercise but anything else.

Garance Hope you continue to do well.

Joan

cathy, some of the sorest times in my life were after horse back riding. I used to have a neighbor with horses and we'd ride sometimes. I have pretty tight hips and am not a good rider anyway. plus, I was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. been kicked, tossed and bitten by more than one horse. decided I was not going to live long if I continued spending time with horses. I remember someone saying riding isn't an aerobic activity, and all the credit goes to the horse, but I always found it very tiring, and a reliable producer of sore muscles.

Did disk 32 plyo legs yesterday. not sore today. I don't push weight or step height and am actually enjoying it. using respectable weights, from 8-20 lbs depending but unlike upper body I'm not trying to increase each disk. I use one less riser than cathe and instead of jumping over I jump to the top, down, and back up. a lot of the moves are stepping up and down anyway. I'm leary of jumping over the step, catching an edge, and crashing, especially toward the end of a set. slightly easier, less impact, but still excellent cardio. these make me sweat! mountain climbers, and squat thrusts are tough but minor impact IMO. the combo of weights and intense cardio feels pretty good. I'm sticking with doing squats and lunges once a week and today is the first time I have no soreness at all. none.

Lynda hope you are doing well and reading but not keyboarding.
Josie, I'm getting our shoes and pedals today. can't wait to try them out, after practicing releasing 100 times.
Joan, why don't you do an upper body workout, but decrease your weights so it's not as hard but still "something"? I think you'll feel better if you do something and every workout doesn't have to push the limit.
Deb, hpe you're having a good trip and have no time to spend online!.

Hi Ladies,

Sorry for not posting much this week. I have been very busy at work. I will be running 3 miles tomorrow morning before my weight training and on Sunday I plan to go on a bike ride.

Garance, I hope that you are doing well.

Deb, enjoy your vacation.

Valerie, which ones are you getting? Make sure they adjust them correctly so that you can get in and out of them with ease.

Cathy, how is the weather in Texas?

Joan, the treadmill is better than nothing.

Have a great weekend ladies!

Josie

Josie, I got some Pearl Izumi "select" mountain bike shoes and shimano pedals. everyone says mt bike shoes work fine on road bikes and allow a little easier walking if needed, rather than strict road shoes. DH got some "Specialized" shoes and speed play pedals, (frogs) cause they have more float and he's very bowlegged and has had a sore knee from riding. It's trial and error as far as I can tell. didn't find a lot of shoes in my size (39 or 40 depending), guess dealers are closing out stock before the new model year.
I bought a new pair of gloves that have a big pad over the median/ulnar nerve area that I hope will help with numbness, left side mainly.

LOL! sorry about that traildoggie. unfortunately, that is most peoples experience with horses. it was mine in my younger years, but i was so horse crazy i would ride anything and take anything to ride. only by God's grace i was not killed or seriously injured.
but, i went to work for a trainer about 20 yrs ago, and learned what a broke horse is and learned how to train, so i don't ride killer horses anymore. too old for that. and, as long as i've been riding , i shouldn't get sore. i am sore all over this week for some reason. if you're ever in s. texas. come and ride my horses. they are sweet, well, most of the time:) but they are still horses and have a mind of their own.

TODAY was jen carman's strength in movement. love that workout. pretty tough , too.ya'll have a great weekend. will probalby have g/kids, so won't be on here.

josie, the weather here is HOT!! but, it is august.

The last episode probably wasn't my fault, but I was riding my neighbor's pony ( not shetland, but some other kind?) around our yard when DH decided to reel in the hose which was lying in the grass. Seems innocent enough, didn't want the horse tromping all over it. Apparently the pony didn't see the hose sliding as anything benign and went nuts, bucking like a rodeo bronco. I lasted about 3 cycles and went flying, totally airborne, and landed on my butt. geez, thought I did pretty good for no saddle! I rode a few times after that but that was about incident #10 and I decided I'd been lucky and hadn't been hurt, so it was time to find a safer ( for me) sport. thanks for the offer, if i'm around south texas I will let you know.

this is sooooo annoying. i just posted you a loonng reply traildoggie, and it didn't post. what is the deal? it did this the other nite. grrr!

anyway, guess i'll start over. hoses tend to have that effect on alot of horses. and ponies have a pretty bad reputation anyway. i've been bucked off so many ponies, but i always went back for more. i just wanted to ride, i didn't care what .

one of my first memories is a horse going down the alley behind our house and i just went nuts. i was about 4 then. that is what i did every time i saw a horse.
my granddaughter is just as nuts as i am. she has been riding since she was 2 and is an excellent rider. we have fun.

today i did fat blaster & tracie's new power up. tomorrow is rest. well, g/kids are here, so not sure about "rest", but no workout anyway. possibly swimming in the afternoon.
