Good morning!

It's starting to rain here, and we really need it so I am not complaining!

Had a fun day yesterday, class and we went to Barnes & Noble to look around for books. I just write down those that look good and get them from the library.

Hopefully going to do some weight work today, I have been a slug again. Here are some pics from yesterday: DH was using the fast speed lense, so this all happened in about 3 seconds. I tried to make a slide show/video of them but couldn't figure out how to do it. He just came flying out of that tunnel behind him and is headed for the tire jump.

what is everyone up to today?

Hi Deb, Joan, Valerie, and Cathy--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

Deb, love the pics of Keegan. I see you have the treat bag handy. Max loves his nibbles of pupperoni during frisbee play. You will really enjoy the Hunger Games. I am really looking forward to the films of the trilogy.

Loved the dance troupe we saw yesterday--all male Korean group (LDP--Laboratory Dance Project). So much energy--acrobatic and a lot of breakdancing moves. Next week it's a ballet troupe from Paris.

Sorry about your drought, Cathy! Saw a weather report on a big storm headed toward Texas that quite literally evaporated as soon as it hit the dry air over your state.

Hi to Valerie and Joan!

Yeah, the hurricane just pooped put without adding very much rain. If I could send some clouds south, I'd do it. we had 2 nice days and today it's raining again. not a downpour, but enough to make outdoor work marginal. might ease off later so we can do some garden work. yesterday we did a bike ride. 2 fast hours, 1 hr 54 to be exact, about 22 miles. we have odometers on our bikes but they don't always match but are close. got home and washed the cars, cleaned the garage, lubed the bikes.
it was a nice sunny day but somehow too many drivers passed too close for comfort. we pick low traffic routes but some days it seems like drivers give lots of room and others they shave the hair off your legs. I don't know if they realize they are as close as they are. we ride minimal distance on high speed roads but often you need to ride a few hundred yards on a 50 MPH road to cross to the next back road and in just a few minutes you can get intimidated. some roads have shoulders that come and go that's where the debris ends up. can't ride thru broken glass or loose gravel so need to carve out a section of the lane and some drivers are not very generous. when you feel the actual heat of a car going by, they are definitely too close. we try to ride lower traffic times that are popular with cyclists but yesterday we were glad to get back in one piece.

Keegan is so cute! can't wait to see the new little guy.

Good morning ladies!

I just finished KCM's lower body workout from Split Sessions. WoW, I ordered the firewalker bands from Cathe, to do the exercises that KCM has in this workout, but could not even do the first part of it with the green band. I had to go back to the one I made out of a pink band a while ago. These are killers for the hips, glutes etc.

Garance, yep, I use a Home Depot apron to hold treats, and paper towel to wipe my face from sweat, ( yuk), and a squeek toy to throw for him at the end. I am weaning him off the treats, he only gets, maybe one during the whole run of 20 obstacles. Then after the very last one I throw the toy for him to get. In an actual AKC trial you can't have food or toys or anything in the ring.

Valerie, I am constantly amazed at all you get done around the house. I wish I had half of your energy. I don't think I would ride on a road where cars are going 50 mph! Scary for sure.

Hi to Josie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Sweat Express II (57 min.).

Deb, I use the grey band that came with Split Sessions for that work. I just leave it tied because I have other bands for Cathe's band work. I agree, though, you can really feel that work in the hips and thighs. Are you training Keegan for a show?

Watched the Adjustment Bureau last night. I found it irritating, so I cannot recommend. The premise is that God has a plan for each of us, and if we don't stick to it, a bunch of men in hats and suits will intervene to get us back on course-----unless, TRUE LOVE trumps God. Yeah, right! A lot of nonsense about free will, too. No one on that script read Paradise Lost, that's for sure. End of rant.

I'm with Deb--would not want to be on a bike with traffic going that fast. I'm a wuss.

Hi to anyone else who shows up.

Good morning!

I did a treadmill interval workout this morning, from a new ap I downloaded to my iPod. It is really hard, I put my settings correctly for age, weight etc and then selected "intermediate"...wow, there are parts I just can't keep up with. I think the beginner is too easy, so I am going to stick with this workout until I can do it as described. It gives me something to work towards. I am sweating so badly right now and I just got out of the shower....ugh.

Garance, funny thing about that grey band, when I cut the package open to get the DVD, I cut the band in half! The should not have put it in the sealed end of the package. So I have been using the Cathe pink one, tied into a loop. Do you have the actual fire wallker bands that she sells here? whoa.. Yes, eventually planning on entering Keegan in a AKC agility show to start towards his first title. Right now he is a little too unreliable in the ring. A little more exposure to different places and he could be awesome.

Off to get something to eat and walk the monster!

Hi to all that show up,

Take care,

Good morning everyone. We did a tough hike yesterday, about 8 miles 3800 feet gain. but as I've been saying, the snow is still around. there was more snow than we usually have in june. It made the hike way more difficult than normal. but we persisted and summited. it was a lovely day, very clear, wonderful views from mt rainier to mt baker & the olympics. quite a few other people out there today, some very under prepared for the snowy conditions. but no one would expect this in august.

I absolutely don't like riding in traffic. all you need to look at is people parked in any parking lot and obviously not everyone has decent judgement of their car's size & position! we ride as much as possible quieter rural roads. always risks. we pick times and routes for minimal exposure but there's some. I think drivers think cyclists should stay more on the shoulder, but in a car you can't see the small hazards like broken glass and that many times the shoulder is sometimes there, and sometimes not. sometimes need to stake out a portion of the right lane and can't move over further.

too funny, I was thinking that looked like the home depot logo!

I bought a bulk box of band material and cut my own. DH and I had both used bands at various times for physical therapy so I bought a big box (for about $15) and will have bands for 2 lifetimes. I think every manufacturer has their own color coding system. Mine are dark blue. I got the brand they had at the PT place I went to. they all get slack after using for a while.

I have that movie in my queue.. usually like both matt & emily but that does sound like a dumb premise.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 7 for bis, ch, sh (55 min.). I could not do the 30 pushups she wanted in one of her pushup sequences. Pooped out at 25 with a big groan.

Deb, I don't have the firewalker band, but I do have a yellow band like it from BBL (Brazil Butt Lift). Keegan looks super dedicated in your pics.

Valerie--that sounds like a beautiful hike. Our mountains are pretty small compared to your's, but still pretty. Bikers around here complain about the bumps in the shoulders installed last year to wake up wavering drivers.

Hi to any latecomers!

Good afternoon,

I've been busy getting in all doctor appts before starting to babysit Aug 10. Took dm to cancer doctor and mammogram since it had been almost 2 years since surgery. Of course we were yelled at but mammogram was ok so we can wait a year. After surgery it is every 3 months (which she wouldn't do).

PT is done but now I have to get socks on her- about 15 minutes and every few hours pull on the toes because they get too tight. In the evening I have to take about 30-45 minutes to wrap her legs.

Dh has colonoscopy on Friday.

I completed disc 28 on Monday. I can't believe I have kept on schedule with meso 3. It helps to have son spot me on some of the barbell exercises.

Joan

Joan, you do your best work when you are totally scrunched for time!

me, I finished garden chores, laundry, vacuuming, and am off to do disk 30.

Lynda, 25 push ups is nothing to sneeze at. my push up ability fades 10x faster than my ability to do any other exercise. don't know why that is. we've been doing a lot of planks in yoga so I'm hoping that will help since push ups haven't been on the schedule for a long time.

Taking a rest day today, I am trying to break up the week of exercise, trying to do do 3 days, Cardio, lower body, cardio, then one off, then 2 days, upper body, cardo. For some reason I can't do 6 in a row and always end up crapping out when I think about having to do 6. Does any of this make sense. I am half asleep.

Well we have come to the conclusion that Keegan has allergies, like Kelsey did. We ( mostly DH) were in denial for a while, but with all the scratching he is doing lately, it's a foregone conclusion. Poor baby is so itchy. I gave him a Claritin a little while ago, and he gets a Benydry at night. Maybe it's just seasonal, I can only hope.

Valerie, What a great hike, I cannot even wrap my mind around that kind of thing. A good idea to buy the bands in bulk, I guess I didn't know they could be purchases like that. I have a few Cathe green ones, bought the newest version a while ago, use the pink for the standing leg work in KCM. I think you would like that part of her Lower body split session.

Garance, yep, Keegan is really starting to like agility. How is Max doing? What farm job is he assigned to now? chicks are either too big or gone by now right?

Joan, I am amazed that you are getting in those STS sessions with all you have going on right now. Good job!

Hi to Josie & Cathy,

Take Care,

It IS a great hike. there are so many fabulous places to hike to here. the trouble is, we've done most of them so many times that we don't get as thrilled anymore. Must have done this one at least 40 times. Fewer people than you'd expect for august but a lots aren't prepared for the snow. plenty of places half way with views to stop & enjoy without getting into difficulties. usually by this time of the season we have problems with biting flies, but not so far. they're awful. we've aborted more than a few hikes when they're bad. I get almost an allergic response to the bites, itchy, swelling, scratch until I bleed.

Did disk 30 yesterday. I did 15 lbs using my slightly tender shoulder and this morning it's Ok.

It was an accidental finding about the bands.. had knee surgery years ago. PT used bands for firewalker-like moves. they had bulk band material on huge rolls like giant scotch tape, so I shopped Amazon. I think the box was about $15 and I got something like 20 yards... compared to what you pay for a 6 foot section, it was easy. I have a lifetime supply. you have to decide on what tension you want though because it will always be the same.

one rest day a week is necessary, IMO. I hardly ever take a day "totally" off but do something different so it doesn't feel or look like a workout.

Are terriers subject to dermatitis? I know some dog breeds seem to have that issue. I can't imagine you can do much except change food? too bad they can't talk....

Hi Deb, Valerie, and Joan--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (58 min.).

Deb, there always chicks and chickens now. As soon as one group is taken to slaughter, a new group of 150 chicks arrives in the mail. Max guards in the early morning and early evening which is when the hawks seem to be looking for their next meal and when the chickens are out and about. They have a shelter they sleep in over night. Your plan sounds quite reasonable if it cajoles you into working out more often. Five days instead of six is laudable in my book.

Valerie, the exercise that really seems to get my heart going is Supermans for some reason.

Joan, good for you on STS! I am doing all of the upper body disks and replace the lower body with barre work. I think it's easier on my knees. I am still in meso 1.

Good morning,

well the best laid plans or however that saying goes. No workout, I was so tired at 4:00 when I woke up that I just turned the alarm off and went back to sleep. Tomorrow is another day.

Garance, dogs that have a job to do are the best dogs.

Hi to Joan, Cathy, Valerie, & Josie ( where are you?),

take care,

Deb, love the new doggie avatar... so darling.

Did a bike ride yesterday, a new ride from an old bike riding book. things have changed since the book was written so it maybe was good 20 years ago, but too much traffic now. some 50 mph roads with no shoulder, about died out there. but finished alive. 32 miles. had to keep stopping to check the map and figure out where to go next ...some roads had changed names... so took longer but much hillier than what we usually do. I liked the hills, didn't like the traffic. started in a park, and lunch was in a lovely spot on the sound, but some of the mileage in between was hellish.

going to yoga this morning, and then the next upper body disk, 31or 32?

Hi Deb, Valerie, and Joan--

This morning I did disk 8 for back and tris (56 min.).

Valerie, I guess I am just too risk averse to take up biking. That sounds treacherous. I wish I were as far along in STS as you. I'm still in meso 1, one more week. I still find all the equipment a bit crazy. I hope the low impact series is a bit more equipment-light.

Deb, you have next week off for your new puppy, right? Hope that doesn't cut into your sleep. You know, Max is really about the sweetest dog we have ever, ever had. He is like a goodwill ambassador wherever DH goes. Everyone knows him and adores him. He has favorite rides--especially to the hayfield and to the meat slaughtering place, where there is always, always a treat. He loves DH's truck and stands up the whole time, just watching everything go by. I love your new avatar, too. Keegan in motion. Yes!

Project Runway tonight. Goody.

Good morning,

One more day and I am off for a week!! Some issues at work, I was supposed to take off a couple of extra days, now I may not get to do that. Getting little "Kylee" tomorrow, or maybe we will spell it "Kiley", not sure yet.

Valerie, I didn't realize you did bike rides from books. where do you get those? I wonder if there are ones for rides around here.

Garance, Max sounds like a such great loving dog, loving life and everything he does. What a lucky puppy he was going to your home ! Jacobs Pillow this weekend?

Take care,

Deb, a couple ( bil & erin woods) a long time ago wrote a series of guidebooks for bicycling the backroads of the puget sound area. covered most of western washington. they were part of a bigger organization called Mountaineers. Mountaineers published the guides along with hiking guides, loads of other books. the books had descriptions, mileage, where to park, how strenuous, along with a map with detailed mileage and directions. the hiking guides were similar.
Things have changed as the area built up so some of the material is outdated but we use the books with modifications. it's really nice to have a lot of the details worked out before you go. I can get updated maps from mapquest or google maps if road names have changed, but old roads that used to be quiet country roads may not be any more. the hiking series was similar info with mileage and elevation gain/loss calculated so you can judge before you go if it's appropriate for what you want.

Pictures pictures, we want puppy pics!
Max sounds like a terrific dog and companion Lynda. I forgot what kind of dog he is.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Dancetonic, both dances (60 min.).

Deb, you would have really enjoyed Project Runway last night. They had to use materials from a pet supply store. Unbelievable things to be done with leashes, wee-wee pads, bird seed, dog beds. A whole strapless cocktail dress of wee-wee pads dyed lavender, and sort of ruched so it looked like chiffon, a really gorgeous top of colorful stuff for aquariums glued on to muslin, and another dress entirely of bird seed glued on to muslin. Kind of an s and m top made with coiled and braided leashes. Yep, Jacob's Pillow tomorrow for Troisieme Etage (French ballet company).

Valerie, Max is an English shepherd. Perfect farm dog. Loves to be given a task and is a great companion for DH. He would not be a good companion for me, since I am inside and quietly writing, reading--too sedentary.

I am beginning my tomato fest, and the butter and sugar sweet corn is in season now--so good. Cannot. Beat. Summer.

Have a great weekend everyone!

so I finally looked up english shepherd. I had no idea what they looked like. somehow I expected a short haired dog more like a heeler. your guy looks almost cocker spaniel like. he sounds like a fantastic dog.
I envy your tomato fest... home grown is really the best, nothing like it, but this year looks like a bust here. not even getting cherry tomatoes. last yr was bad too. we probably will get corn but not for a while yet. I love good corn but am not thrilled with the supersweet varieties the stores carry. tastes funny, like too much artificial sweetener. I wait for local corn and our own corn. sweet, but not phony tasting.
I finally bought some small basil plants since 3 packages of seed yielded 2 tiny plants that combined are not as big as a pencil eraser. all these comfortable temps have their downside.
