Goon Morning!

Today I did the first STS workout (chest, shoulders, biceps) and liked it a lot. I had forgotten how much I liked these.

Lots of HouseMax to still do, ugh...neverending right?

Will drop back later to see if anyone is around...

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday Chester and I went for 3.5 mile walk and he swam twice. He is very happy again. Afterwards I decided on STS total body and loved it. Did all but the abs since I actually did abs twice this past week. This was a download I purchased a few months ago. i loved it and will certainly do this again.

Right now we are getting ready to go for brunch then sit by the pool all day. My workout will be swimming and then walking Chester later in the evening.

Temps are really enjoyable today finally!

Deb...I saw your post and it is so frustrating when you update a product then nothing works right. Drives me insane when this happens. I will ask my IT department in the morning for some help and will let you know. Hopefully you will have an answer beforehand though.

Valerie...good on the dress! I believe #1 was one of my choices.

Hi to Josie, Garance and Judy!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Turbo Barre (74 min.).

I really enjoyed our vacation this year. It was a perfect time to be near the ocean because everywhere inland was so hot. The ocean was also perfect for me--very gentle waves for bobbing and the water was not too cold. I did my 3 mile beach walk every day and enjoyed a couple good beach reads. Went out every night for dinner and one night in Cape May. I have a nice tan, even with my 55 sunscreen. Not a single bad day of too much wind or any rain at all. We came back on Friday, but yesterday I went to Jacob's Pillow for the B.C. Ballet. Excellent program and a young troupe of dancers. It had also cooled down from the 90s to the 80s, so it was tolerable.

Not sure what I will do next for a rotation. I think I will do one barre every week and bring out my Booty Barre, Rockin' Models, and Cardio Barre, along with Turbo Barre. I like the upper body stuff on XTrain, so I will put that in, and then we'll see about cardio.

It sounds like almost everyone east has been dealing with that heat wave. It's pretty much over here for this week anyway.

Sorry about that fracture, Josie! At least you don't have to wear a cast.

Max was in AC while we were gone, but he was thrilled to have us back and his farm back, too. DH bought a bumper sticker for his truck: Dog is my copilot. Very appropriate for Max.

Hmm--Lori, I sold my STS total body. I hated dragging out all of that equipment (my complaint about STS generally). You only use the tower for one exercise, and I thought Cathe had too many exercisers. A very cluttered set. I never did the Gym Style legs--I guess I should preview it and see if I would like it. Happy Anniversary!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Burn Sets Bi's & Tri's and 10 minutes of core work. Then DH and I worked at FIL's most of the afternoon. We were able to make 2 more trips to the recycle center. We both have tomorrow off so we will be going back again to do some cleaning and work on the deck.

Today we went to Island Lake and did a 15 mile bike ride. It was a little cooler than last week, with temps in the 80's.

Deb-you are right, housemax never ends around here either..

Lori-I don't have STS Total Body yet. Still haven't been able to move my gym equipment to the basement yet so I'll probably hold off on that one for awhile.
Great job on doing all the ab work!

Lynda-sounds like you had a great vacation :) Nice that you walked every day too.
I don't know much about Barre workouts, I'll have to take a look at that one.

Hi to Josie & Valerie!

Judy

Good morning,

I just finished 35 minutes of Run Fit..whew! Nice HIIT workout on the treadmill.

Lori, how was the anniversary brunch? thanks for seeing if your IT folks have an answer. I actually did a system recover on my PC and set it back to supposedly the date that they updated the adobe flash player, but that did not work. I did get everything back the way it was otherwise though. I don't like the new version of IE, so I got the old one back.

Garance, your vacation sounds lovely and relaxing! I bet Max was thrilled to be home. I have to admit, I cannot get myself to do a barre workout after that one I tried ( the Kelly one) and could not do well. I never even previewed CAthe's.

Judy, did the out of town relatives arrive yet?

Hi to Josie, & Valerie,

Work, then class tonight...another sweltering one I bet!

Take care,

Good Morning,

My SIL, her husband and their youngest son(18) are coming into town Wednesday.
They will be staying at FIL's house, as there is plenty of room and we've gotten 2 bedrooms ready for them.

We have a another assessment scheduled for FIL on Thursday morning. It's going to be a repeat of one he had done last August. A doctor and a geriatric social worker meets with the family, including FIL. As I recall, they asked him questions about how he is doing then asked us the same questions. Then the doctor took FIL to another room and did some memory testing on him while the social worker talked to DH, SIL and I about our concerns. To be honest, I was not impressed at all with the doctor that day. He told us that we needed to "socialize" FIL and take him for walks every day and that FIL would be fine:confused: I wonder how much he charged insurance/medicare for that advice:mad:

I'll check back later this week, hope everyone has a good one!

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.).

Deb, good for you on the Run Fit! There are some short premixes on Turbo Barre you might find do-able. I actually think barre workouts are easier on my knees than heavy weight workouts. I have doms today from Turbo Barre, so I know something is happening. I sold my Physique 57 workouts because Tanya is irritating after awhile.

Judy, did the social worker have any advice? I know my mom loved going to a weekly meeting place for elders, where she could play bingo or play cards and gossip with fellow older people, but maybe your fil isn't interested in that kind of "socializing." Some older people just prefer to be with family or by themselves and the doctor shouldn't be so glib. His advice sounds more suitable for a new puppy IMO.

Sounds like the humidity wants to come back for a couple days--ugh!

Good afternoon ladies!

Thank you for the Anniversary wishes. We had a really lovely day. Brunch was fabulous and of course I ate way to much. Not sure what we were thinking...eat like pigs then go sit out in our bathing suits by a public pool. Was not a pretty site!!! We just laughed it off and had a great day.

I ended up working the legs in the pool and then in the evening took Chester for a 3 mile walk. This morning was T25 Cardio. Tonight will be weights. Have not decided what yet. Then walk Chester.

Judy...I think you will like butts and guts. As I mentioned previously it is one of my favorite leg workouts. I also like the ab workout in this one. Almost as much as ab ripper from P90X. Something does not sound right with the doctor!

Deb.. great job on the Run Fit. I need to look into this. I do not run much in the summer months. Usually a fall/winter exercise for me. Weird?

Garance...I actually enjoy the LIS Barre workout. Thought it really works every part of my legs and then some. Sounds like your vacation was really nice and enjoyable!

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

Lynda-I agree about that being more appropriate advice for a new puppy, I was kind of thinking that myself at the time. This doctor was something else. He had a chalk board he was using to make his points ( I suspect he uses the same routine in all of his assessments) and he acted like going for a walk was the cure for everything wrong with FIL. I am all for the benefits of exercise, but in all honesty, I'm afraid it's a little too late for exercise to reverse FIL's memory loss even though it can help in other ways. The social worker was actually more helpful and realistic than the doctor. She did mention going to a senior center but FIL prefers to stay home and watch TV or be with family.

Hi Ladies,

Went to the ortho appointment and now I'm wearing a Frankenstein boot :). The Dr. said that I was lucky because it is a clean break and no surgery is needed. It will take 6 weeks to heal :(. Now I have to rethink my workouts.

Judy, sorry to hear about your FIL. The Dr's assesment sounds outdated.

Lori, sounds like you had a great time on your anniversary. Who cares that you ate too much as long as both of you had fun.

Hi to Garance, Deb and Valerie!

Josie

Josie-sorry about your foot :( I hope it doesn't interfere too much with your workouts. 6 weeks sounds like a long time but I hope it will go fast for you.

Good morning,

A nice class last night, even with the heat.

Judy, I understand how that assessment would be frustrating! I do think sometimes a part of memory loss could be because some some people are alone so much and do not socialize. My uncle is a good example of this. However, that is not the only thing, it's a physical thing as well.

Garance, I should look at the shorter premixes on the Barre workout, and see if I can even do them.

Lori, yes, I like RunFit, but would not do this outside this time of year...I like walking/jogging in the fall ouside..can't do it in the heat. You are doiing great with your 2 workouts a day, plus walking Chester..:)..I found that only the videos on Yahoo cannot open, I went to MSN and they were fine there....not sure what happened or what changed...I may just have to change my home page, I like the Yahoo news style though..:(

Josie, OUCH! sorry about your foot...and what a time of year to be stuck with one of those boots for 6 weeks...Remind me....how did you do this again?

Valerie, are you off on a bike/hike trip?

Work, then no committments tonight, maybe I will take Keegan for a walk, he needs the exercise, could lose a few pounds just like me! LOL...

Take care,

We did window washing on Saturday, a huge big deal. I got to do all the window tracks.... nit a favorite job. DH does them with the hose, ladder, and I get to hold the ladder and get doused by the spray! also went to a surprise birthday party for a friend that turned out to be more fun than expected. we were talking to a couple for a few minutes and suddenly realized they were our next door neighbors. haven't seen them in years and didn't recognize them

Sunday we did a nice ride 28 miles. Monday we did a nice hike up to a high ridge on Mt Baker. Loads of snow yet with some rocky ridges exposed so we can sit in a dry spot for lunch, and then slide back down. it's called glissading and is a fabulous way to go down a mountain. sit on your butt and control speed with an ice axe. Yes, there's a technique to it. temps have been pleasant here 70-80 and sunny.

Josie sorry about the foot..... what a bummer of a way to get started on retirement. could you ride your bike/spin bike if you switched the pedals back to regular pedals, not clipless? maybe a big focus on upper body for a while.

Judy, walking might be a fine and help him physically but with the memory loss issues he could get lost or otherwise into trouble. It sounds like he'd need someone to walk with him for it to be reasonable. some family as houseguests should be some stimulation for him..... something different from his regular routine but still in familiar surroundings.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets Bis and Tris with Core 1 (47:33).

Josie, I had to wear one of those boots when I fractured my ankle--after the cast was removed. I only did upper body weight work 3x a week for the duration.

Don't remind me about windows, Valerie. We need to hire someone I think, because DH is too busy with hay and animals to even think about the project. He managed to get in 900 bales yesterday and was utterly exhausted. He is always in trouble because he needs 3 days, and then the weather only gives him 2. Max just loves to rub his nose on the glass doors, and at least I can Windex them now and then. I thought you didn't like your neighbors (?).

So what did you eat for brunch, Lori? On vacation, I indulged in Danish every morning because the bakery in Avalon is superb. Their dough is melt-in-your-mouth good. Back to cereal and eggs (sigh!). One year DH tried to bring back his favorite--sticky buns--and freeze them, but they were awful when he thawed them 3 mos later.

I am really enjoying my novel, My Name Is Red. I didn't take it to the beach because it's too complicated for a beach read (multiple first-person narrators with Turkish names), but it is absolutely enthralling now that I'm back with no distractions.

Judy, I hope the visit with your SIL goes well.

Hi to Deb!

Good afternoon ladies!

Yesterday evening was P90X chest and back. I had forgotten how much I actually like this one. It is pretty much all different kinds of pushups and chin-ups/pull-ups. I use bands for these. Even though it is labeled chest and back I really feel I get a total upper body with this one. This morning was T25 Speed 1.0. I am loving these intense 25 min. workouts. I now get to sleep in until 5:00AM!!

Garance...pretty much had everything...meats, pasta, pecan rolls...the usual breakfast stuff and then dessert! We totally indulged ourselves. We never do this and it was a special occasion so what the heck. I just finished reading Killing Lincoln and loved it. I am now reading Killing Kennedy and really enjoying this also.

Valerie! You and your husband are amazing with your activities. On your butt using an ice axe. WOW! That is incredible. Funny about meeting up with your neighbors!

Josie! I am so sorry to hear about the boot! Well on the bright side good thing you had it checked out. If not you may have started working out again and damaged even more. 6 weeks will fly by. Which foot? Are you able to drive?

Judy..I agree with Valerie that having family visiting will help with stimulation for FIL all while being home where he is familiar.

Deb..glad that most things are working for you. Very strange that this happened. MSN videos work but Yahoo doesn't. That is nuts and makes no sense! How can anyone completely understand technology!!??

Tons of rain here today so no walking Chester tonight. It has been pouring off and on all day.

Have a great afternoon.

I know I posted another time but it seems to have disappeared...

Lori, it sounds crazy but it's actually safer and easier to get down steep snow this way because if you slip you're already sitting down, and the axe ( used correctly) will stop you quickly. I made us some special shorts with vinyl seats so we can do this and not wear out the butt of our good clothes.

Judy... do you think depression may be playing a role with your FIL? a lot of older people get depressed because their lives are often pretty dismal without much to look forward to. Has anyone ever suggested an anti depressant? sometimes a few drugs need to be tried to get the right fit. my aunt is in assisted living and was pretty awful to deal with for a while but finally has her meds straightened out and she's much happier. she's almost blind and very hard of hearing but is still enjoying things. we thought she was developing dementia but much of it medication related. she's doing much better now.

Hi Everyone,

I did an indoor cycling workout this morning and I did Xtrain Chest, Back & Shoulders tonight. I added Core 1 & 2 after that. It's going to be hectic for the rest of the week so I may not be posting much but I'll check in when I can and let you know how things are going with FIL and family. Thanks for your comments and good wishes.

Judy

Good morning Melters, Happy Hump Day!

Is it only Wednesday? Ugh...again, living for the weekend....

Valerie, LOL...I assume your next door neighbors are a bit of a distance from your house? Ours are almost on top of us so no chance not recognizing them! I shouldn't say right on top...the one is, the other is a bit of a distance because our side yard and her driveway and yard are between our houses. Love the way you got down that incline! Just like 2 little kids...

Garance, WOW..900 bales ...that is a workout for sure! does he get anyone to assist?

Lori, funny you mentioned P90X...I was just thinking of selling that one on Ebay...I have not used it for years. Yes, strange about Yahoo vids not working but others do...I swear it's something they did, but of course, there is no where to write to them to complain...etc....they're not dumb!

Judy, keep us posted if you can on how things are going...hope the visit with in-laws and FIL goes well.

Hi to Josie,

Nothing much to report here...work, then agility class....hot hot hot....

Take care,
