Good morning,

Woke up at 3:30 and could not get back to sleep.. It's going to be a long day. Maybe a nap later.

Valerie, not sure what those leg drills were all about, but anything that keeps your leg in the air for any length of time is not easy.

The puppies were great, we think we have it narrowed down to 2, possibly the one we are getting. I will post pics later, need to upload from the camera to here.

Hopefully doing some type of workout today, then HouseMax,

Later, ;)

Good morning,

I know I have mentioned in the past having to sleep on the couch when dh's snoring kept me up. We thought he had a cold since getting back from vacation, including a bad cough and sore throat. He went to doctor and he said it was probably allergies. Since starting zertec d, snoring is almost all gone. Who would have guessed that?

Joan

Hi Deb, Joan, and Valerie--

Back from vacation! Jersey Shore is really great. Great beach weather, the water was nice and warm, so I did some bobbing every day and a lot of walking. This morning I did P-57 vol. 2 (57 min.).

I had to go and read last week's thread. Sounds like medical issues were primary. I hope everything settles down--allergies, dizziness, strained muscles, snoring, digestion, swelling legs, fever, insomnia, worry, worry, worry. Man, that was a scary thread. I'm just glad I have nothing to contribute (unlike last year, when I came back with a broken elbow from my vacation).

Watched the women's soccer team beat France on Wednesday, so I am really looking forward to this afternoon's game. Anyone else?

Deb, Keegan is so cute! We paid extra for Max to have individual play sessions with a ball, frisbee, and some agility props, but he was really talking to us when we took him home. Soooo happy. Puh-leeze show us some puppy pics. I don't know about those names. Two of them seem to be pulled from the headlines (the Casey Anthony trial). Did the breeder have any suggestions? I think I told you that Max's breeder has themes and his theme was American explorers, so poor Max was originally Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame). Cracked me up! Never met a dog named Clark.

Adorable puppies... impossibly cute.... how will you choose?? Keegan is darling. Looks like he's having great fun running the obstacle course.

Lynda, glad you had a good uneventful vacation without any unexpected excitement.

we are still suffering with crappy weather here. raining, cold, foggy cloudy. had planned on hiking today but the forecast changed and it's foggy & drizzly. if it burns off later we may do a bike ride.

we dove into the patio project and did a bunch yesterday. each paver ( decorative brick) weighs a good 5 lbs. we ended up with about 10x12 shape. we have lots of bricks (from an old patio) and it's a good use for them. it's heavy work. digging the hole, leveling it, building a wood frame keeping it square, test running the pavers to make sure they fit in correctly so we don't have to cut any. end up moving a lot of weight. we got a load of gravel to fill for a base. will get sand and then set in the pavers. the gravel alone was 2000 lbs. we will have a nice attractive seating area big enough for a couple chairs and table that will cost out-of-pocket about $150. and in an area where grass refused to grow anyway. big improvement.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Sweat Express II (57 min.).

Love the pics, Deb! Of course dogs smile--sheesh, I thought everyone knew that. Keegan looks so pretty in his gait--sort of prancing. Oooh-puppies!

Darn, I was so disappointed about the World Cup. The women played so well, and to have it come down to penalty kicks is icky.

Well, I am going to start STS tomorrow--just the upper body disks, though. Dreading the pushup marathon in meso 1.

Valerie, our weather here has been pretty nice, but that heat wave is headed our way, with a major dose of the muggies.

Hi to Joan, Cathy, and Josie!

Not sure why I am not sleeping well, but I guess I need to just live with it. One more day of work then off tomorrow to get ready for our trip to Los Gatos, Ca on Thursday. We'll be there until Monday evening, and I have to go to DC on Tuesdy, back Wednesday. Ugh. What a way to put a downer on a vacation trip.

Valerie, the one in the pics is the one we have chosen. Pretty sure we are going with "Kylee" for the name. At least you will be able to use Round UP or something on weeds right? We had a Unibrick patio and I could never keep the weeds from growing up through the brick because we wouldn't use anything like Round UP in the yard with the dogs. That's why when we did the yard over we got stamped concrete. Some weeds do get through that though, it is not one big surface. I use vinegar on them.

Garance, good for you for starting STS again. It seems daunting to me after the KCM short workouts. I am really looking forward to the new series now. I like the fact that she is doing a low impact HIIT workout.

Hi to Joan, Cathy & Josie,.

Take care,

Deb, we fill the excavation partly with gravel, then layer of landscape fabric, then 1.5 inches of sand. the fabric keeps down deep weeds. the pavers are tapped close together and sand dusted in the spaces. we had a patio similar to this (but bigger) & took it apart to have some concrete poured for a hot tub base. never had a significant weed issue. pavers are 2.5 inches thick so I can flame weeds or use a little roundup. flaming works on some but others grow right back so

I keep hearing about vinegar ... no doubt cheaper than roundup. Just reg white vinegar undiluted? works on everything?

Probably could have hiked yesterday but the radar showed rain in the mountains so we did a ride instead. 2.5 hours, 34 miles. that' s about my limit. even with padded shorts I'm looking forward to getting off the seat. we had a headwind on the way back so that was pretty good time. I had to stop 4-5 times because of car traffic. the trail crosses regular streets at quite a few points and it's never very clear if the vehicles will stop. they're supposed to, but so are bikes. have to slow way down and be ready to jump off and I hit it wrong time and time again. a lot more effort to get a bike started up again but not all motorists are willing to yield.

Lynda, congrats on restarting STS. I still haven't finished. just a few disks to go. may give one a try and see how my shoulder reacts.
everyone here is whining about our distinct lack of summer though seeing much of the country suffering with triple digits I feel guilty complaining. we usually get some hot weather but usually before this. the low pressure off the coast is going to be there probably thru july. we are not expecting to get any tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, or even winter squash since the plants are barely growing and there's not much time left.

Hi to Joan, Josie, Cathy ...

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 1 of STS for sh, ch, bis (50 min.).

Deb, how soon are you getting your new pup? I, too, am looking forward to Cathe's low impact series. The pictures look really good--some different and new stuff.

Valerie, sorry about your weather. We have a beautiful day here today, but it sounds like heat and humidity are heading our way with a vengeance. I think I will go to the new Harry Potter film later this week.

Hi to MIAs Josie, Cathy, and Joan!

Good morning all,

Off today to get ready for the trip. DH will be droping Keegan off to our friends ( people we got Clancy and Kelsey from, and where he goes for grooming), on his way to work. I will miss him a lot. Then I have laundry and stuff do to around here. We asked our neighbor to water our flowers in the yard while we are gone, but she has really lost her short term memory and may not rememer to do it. I gave her a note to remind her. Hopefully she will read the note each day and do it. Otherwise with this heat, they will all be dead by the time we get home. We are meeting DH's sister and her husband ( from Seattle), in Los Gatos tomorrow, they are staying until Sunday, we come back Monday. His other sister/husband are from Escalon, which is about an hour and a half from Los Gatos, they will be there but not sure when or for how long.

Valerie, vinegar works pretty well on everything. You can dilute it, but I just buy a gallon of white, and use it full strength in a spray bottle. Mostly for cracks in the concrete where the weeds come up and along the fence. I am sure my SIL and BIL from Seattle will be telling us about your weather too.

Garance, the plan is to get the puppy August 6th ( Saturday) and I am taking the following week off. If we could get her Friday night that would be good too.

I may meet my friend for a quick breakfast/lunch around 11:00, otherwise doing stuff here and getting ready. Will check back later.

Hi Ladies,

I'm still alive! Sorry for not posting. We have been very busy at work making changes since we lost one more person due to retirement.

My DS will be coming home next week and I plan on taking vacation the first week of August to spend it with him and the kids. I can't wait. I will also be taking vacation the week of my birthday. I don't know what I'm going to do yet, but will plan something between now and then.

Deb, we are having the same weather here in LA. Have a great time on your vacation.

Hi to Cathy, Joan, Valerie and Garance.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's TLC, both workouts with 1 lb. gloves (60 min.).

That looks like perfect weather, Deb, and the best part is that you miss the HH here. They keep threatening intolerable heat, but today seems very nice still. Sometimes I think weather people are clueless.

Josie, you seem to always have great weather.

Enjoy your vacation, Deb! Wish I could water your flowers for you.

Anybody here??

I guess I will be talking to myself. Today I did disk 2 of STS for tris and back (56 min.).

Really enjoyed the Harry Potter finale, although I wonder if it makes complete sense to people who have not read the books.

HHH here.

will post more tomorrow, got busy. no time! what's HHH? Hot Horrible, Humid? we are still in march weather but supposedly this weekend will be better. it's about 58 degrees and raining.... again. somebody wrote an article saying seattle area has had 78 total minutes of summer, when it actually reached 80 degrees. we are north of seattle so didn't get that. maybe 78. for less than 78 minutes. some nice days but overall it's been pretty crummy. plants aren't growing. more tomorrow. josie, you are in a charmed weather zone. enjoy.

Deb, I'm sure you SIL will fill you in on the distinct lack of summer in the northwest. this weekend... while they are gone... looks to be one of the better weather forecasts in a while. every year is different but this one has been pretty dismal so far.

Lynda. I may have asked this before but the Harry Potter movies ... are they entertaining for adults? I assumed they were for kids/teens and never rented any of the series.

I went to yoga yesterday but that was it on exercise. need to do at least one disk today. I post on another forum so forgive me if I already mentioned this. I've been working hard, eating right, and have lost 9-10 lbs total. I tried on some jeans yesterday that were always tight, and now they fit. I would like to lose another 10, I think. this has been over a couple months, not doing anything extreme.

My sympathy to all suffering in the sauna that half the country is caught in.

Hi Valerie and any other posters--

This morning I did Fat Burning Fusion (45 min.).

Yep--hazy, hot, and humid, all derived from Hades or Hell. The humidity is the real killer. It's supposed to get better tomorrow and Sunday. On the upside, DH brought in our first tomatoes. Yum--they have been loving this sun.

Valerie, the Harry Potter films are excellent, with some of the very finest British actors in the adult roles (Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh, Richard Harris, Gary Oldman). The children chosen for the major roles get progressively better as they grow up. The films grow darker, the stakes higher, as do the books. I think the books are great storytelling, and reading them with my sons at the same time, I did not feel as though they had only appeal for children. The end of the Deathly Hallows is a bit tricky in terms of getting a series of flashbacks with important information which made me wonder if those who had not read the books fully understood what was happening. I won't give you any spoilers.

Excellent work on your diet, Valerie!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I used to live in wisconsin so I know all about HHH. I hated the weather so much I moved west to get away from it. I am envying your tomatoes! it's so cold it will be a miracle if we get a single one. never a guarantee here, but hopeless this yr.

I'm not likely to read the HP books so I'll give the movie a try, whatever the first one in the series was.
