Traildoggie

Deb, it's near Lincoln city. a several mile stretch of hotels, restaurants and 'shops". I'd rather have a no anesthetic root canal than spend time there... I'm not one for traditional "tourist" destinations. we drove around trying to find places to hike but didn't find anything. a couple possible trails were closed for elk calving season for another couple days. roads too busy to road bike, especially with all the big campers / trailers.
one trail we found was loaded with people. it went out to a headland where the wind was seriously blowing. I sound awfully fussy, don't I? was blowing 30 knots and that's not fun. We'd hoped to go out on the ocean on their boat but too rough. last time we were there we went out fishing on a river and saw lots of birds and otters and we should have done that again. I was absolutely twitchy by the time we left. not good being without activity for that long. at least temps were cool and pleasant and it was mostly sunny. I slept really well and read a little bit.
bummer on the lactose intolerance. I'm sure you've tried Lactaid? I 've read it doesn't work 100% for everyone but I would use it just for occasional ice cream, probably my absolute favorite dessert.
