Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B 6/8

Back from a serious hike yesterday. 8 miles, up into loads of snow. saw a mountain goat, close but saw without binoculars. also a junco nest with eggs in it, and several grouse. a really nasty ugly trail that goes to a nice place. I wore new boots and got a bit sore. same model as my old ones, but new is a little stiffer and I have sore feet.

Lynda, top of the lake was ok-good, not a favorite. I likely had subtitles on and didn't notice language issues other than odd expressions. I like Elizabeth moss although she does some dumb things in this sometimes. some things didn't make a lot of sense so I tried not to over-think it. holly hunter was enigmatic and didn't make much sense to me. they do clarify some things toward the end but not to the point of making total sense. west wing I'd like to watch again. Hope max's paw heals up quickly.

Lori hope dh's "paw" heals quickly too. no drivimg for a month is a hard pill to swallow. I also think they give you a "close to max " number of days... so you will be pleasantly surprised to be ready sooner. much harder to tell you 3 weeks, have you not ready, and then be told it's another week or two.

we're giving another go at streaming, bought an ipad, appleTV this morning and will see how it goes. we have 2 weeks to decide. the ipad looks lovely, much easier to handle and use than the laptop. we are thinking of getting a plain TV with a dvd to use in our camper rather than the laptop. it will run off the inverter using very little charge. so we are trying a variety of new things. the camper is in the shop for a week because of a leak around the skylight. re-calking didn't fix it so it needs to get a seal replaced.

I am not getting thread notifications lately for some reason. anyone else having problems?

Josie I will have to practice a LOT before I can ride a 100 mile day. legs and (now) the butt could take it, but my wrists and hands get so numb! still limiting our around 30 miles. if I can cure that, maybe I'd consider.

we are getting our house painted shortly to add to the chaos.

Good evening ladies,

No workout this morning. We just did not sleep well. DH was uncomfortable and I just felt so bad. When he finally fell asleep I changed my alarm as to not go off so early to let him sleep longer.

Tonight I did run 2 miles on TM and then did the LBB conditioning drills.

Valerie...I hope the Apple products work well for you! In the fall I am leaning towards upgrading my Ipad when the newest one is released. I have the 2nd generation and once the new operating system is released it will not update. Hope your feet are less sore soon. Funny there are sore feet, paws and ankles!

When he broke his ankle a year and a half ago it was 10 weeks of no driving. It was horrible. We feel 4 weeks is substantially shorter and knowing his doctor will make him go the full 4 weeks.

Lynda...I am so sick of this weather. First a miserable winter, no spring and summer is just about here and still waiting for the sun to consistently shine for at least 3 days. I loved the battle on this past GOT. Very intense. I am pretty sure I know how the season will end by seeing the previews and I may actually watch it Sunday night instead of waiting. If it is what I think it will be it is going to be jaw dropping great!!!! I started reading WOOL and I'm enjoying it.

Deb...thanks for mentioning Christi Taylor's FREE :D workouts on Youtube. Years ago I had a CIA Step VHS with her and enjoyed it. Lynda...didn't you recently buy a dance one of hers? Something Spice I think.

Hi to Josie and Judy!!!!

Hi Ladies,

I went spinning yesterday and my legs were crazy strong. The instructor said I was on fire :)
I took the day off today and went and got a Chinese for massage and it felt amazing. Tomorrow I plan on doing a hard core class. My new goal is to lose 6 more pounds before we go to Madrid and Barcelona a month from Monday. Can't wait!

Lori, hope your DH recuperates fast. I would go crazy if I could not drive for that long.

Valerie, my fingers on the left hand used to get numb the first time I did the ALC ride, but once the handle bars were adjusted a bit the problem went away. My wrists were a little sore but not bad for riding 7 days.

Garance, I also want to see Edge of Tomorrow. I'm taking DH to dinner on Saturday and maybe we can go see the movie before.

Deb, you definitely need to retire ;)

Hi to Judy!

Josie

Good morning & Happy Friday!

One more day and the weekend is here!

Lynda, isn't is nice to sometimes get something new and shiny? I am so upset that Prime doesn't have season 5 of The Good Wife for free. I was even ready to sign up with Netflix but they don't have it either. :( I hope the weather improves this weekend, we have had a couple of rainy days, now it's time for some sun. Although that may make it so you don't go to the movies with your DH!

Valerie, hope this venture into streaming works out for you! I am not getting thread notifications either, but that seems to be the norm for me. I have not gotten them in a long time.

Lori, I have the 2nd generation iPad too (I think?)....not sure what you mean about not updating.

Josie, what are you planning to do to lose the 6 pounds, besides spinning and working out like crazy? LOL...Yes, you are right, I need to retire. Maybe June 1 of next year.

Hi to Judy!

I don't remember if I mentioned that I got a landscaper to do the weeding, clean up, bushes trimmed and mulching in the front, sides and back of the house, as a Father's Day gift for John. It looks great and he is so happy that it is one job he does not have to have hanging over his head on the weekends. One thing though, our lawn mower crapped out and the lawn looks awful, which makes it hard to see the nicely done beds. So John goes to pick it up yesterday from the dealer, puts it in the rear of the SUV..and hits a huge pot hole, it jars the car so badly that the mower smashed into the rear window and broke it. It's always something!

Work, then off to the Lancaster Opera House where my niece is in a play. She is so good, does this kind of like a hobby. Just seeing her 2 little boys and hubby in the front row watching their Mom on stage makes me tear up.

Take care,

deb, at least I'm not the only one getting missing notifications. I was getting them until I recently? not sure since I show up here regardless.
It's not funny, but it is...the lawnmower thru the window! we often have to take large equipment in the back of our truck and we are careful about cross tying it down..so far we haven't broken glass but it will be an expensive lesson for DH. anything, especially with wheels, will move if allowed to.
My mother came home and is doing pretty well. they have added a handicapped toilet setup and a commode in her room. so far so good. she is not going to get better really, but can stay at home at this point.

the ipad and apple TV works much better than the other systems. MUCH better! we will take some time to learn to use it. this looks like it will work. we got 2 of 3 news channels quite clearly, vastly better than the other systems. getting some other things set up before changing our cable service. the ipad will work better than a laptop when traveling. the screen is so much clearer.. I always had issues with the laptop screen getting reflections or glare. my android phone too. I have a strong feeling we will be going to an iphone next upgrade. I'm so dumb about ipads... I don't know which generation we got. I got a separate keyboard for it too so I can type.
Josie I have more issues with my left but even the biggest padded gloves only delay onset of numbness. after about 30miles I am miserable. the right one is better. after riding that much for 7 days your legs must be at peak strength.

Happy Friday!

Deb, I plan on adding two hard core classes to the mix and to eat clean as much as possible to loose the weight. My workouts will consist of 3 spinning classes, two body pump classes and two hard core classes. Some days I will take a double class to fit them all in.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Well, they couldn't put in the faucets we chose because they blocked the medicine cabinet, so we had to choose another model--Moen Monticello. They may put them in this afternoon.

Deb, I think you will have to wait until season 6 is on the air before they make season 5 free. I watched season 5 and it's really good. Enjoy your weekend!

Lori, I finished Wool and am now reading Shift, which gives you the history behind the silos. One problem I had reading Wool was that I would begin to feel claustrophobic! This has made reading Shift a bit crazy too because one of the characters is claustrophobic. Sorry about your DH. Maybe you should sleep separately for awhile until his pain subsides. I did Pure Spice every week for several months and really enjoyed learning the dances--no verbal cueing.

Valerie, I just decided not to watch anymore of Top of the Lake. I agree that Moss doesn't seem very professional and gets into a lot of dangerous situations that seem out of character for a police woman. Glad you are having success with the streaming. I love my ipad--a gift from my older son who works for Apple.

Josie, I am not at all surprised at how strong you are. You would have to be after all that rigorous training for your ride. It looks like I will have to see Edge of Tomorrow by myself. DH says he is too busy--alas!

Happy Saturday!

My cousin and I went to see my niece in Les Miserables last night. She was wonderful as usual. Of course I would think that! :)

Valerie, glad you mom is able to be in her own house, at least for now. I think you will like the iPad a lot, even for more than the streaming. I love the videos it takes.

Josie, you are a workout maniac!

Lynda, why is plumbing such a pain? well at least you have the new faucets. Do you know when season 6 of The Good Wife starts? I am so mad because of the cliff hanger that they had at the end of season 4..I want to see what happens!

Agility class and some "preliminary" car shopping for me today, unless it starts to rain, which it looks like it might be doing.

Hi to Judy, & Lori,

Have a great weekend!
