Good afternoon,

Busy day, finishing all the usual stuff around here..laundry, etc I..tried out my new HRM and it FINALLY is recording some realistic numbers! I did Lean Circuit 1, 45 minutes, it said 268 calories burned. Last Sunday I did the same workout in 44 minutes and my old HRM said 226 calories burned...so I guess I needed a replacement. We'll see what happens with a CC tomorrow. Went to the store, got a chicken, made spelt bread and cranberry protein bars, now to boil up some eggs and I will be set for the week for lunches...

Grouper tonight for dinner, going to try it in foil on the grill with peach salsa....

Hope everyone is having a great weekend...

I just finished disc 21. Yea another week of meso 2 done.

Today was ds's birthday. We had 11 people over for lunch. Lots of fun.

Joan

hi joan, wow, you worked out after 11 boys??? you are tough. today was rest day for me, and i am so glad. although, i did work at the vet clinic for about 4 hrs today and sweated like a pig. it is really humid here. ick! summer is here.

Monday

Morning all!

I just finished an I-Tread, 237 calories burned, not many more than the last time I did it, but whatever.

Joan, how old is DS?

Cathy, do you make your own schedule for the vet clinic? It seems you work odd hours/days..like you go in when you can or something.

Hopefully the rain has stopped for a few days, of course it does that during the week..

Have a good day!

Hi Deb, Joan, and Cathy--

Yesterday I did disk 19 for ch, sh, tris (69 min.), and today I did P. Kolber's Just Dance (50 min.).

Graduation yesterday was stormy so I decided not to go. Nothing more awful than sitting in the hockey rink in my academic robes in warm humidity and ultimately listening to a roll call of names to pick up diplomas.

We had DH's parents and sister over for dinner last night. I made turkey scallopini Marsala with mushrooms, linguine, and haricots verts in garlic and lemon, a salad from our garden, and Kahlua parfaits with coffee ice cream for dessert. DH's sister stayed to watch the Lakers-Celtics game which was very exciting. Go Celts!!! (They won.)

I went to Josie's site. Her daughter is gorgee-ouss, and so is she without the helmet on. I will go back today to tell her about the girlie gear.

Back to work!

Good morning,

DS was 35 yesterday. It was just his family and my brother and his family. My niece and nephew in law(?) are just a little younger than ds and dil. They have a daughter who is 2 and will have a son in August.

I am down a pound to 170lbs. My calorie deficit based on my GWF and keeping track of what I ate was almost exactly 3500 calories. I shouldn't be surprised. I am no longer blaming my metabolism or my age. I may have to work harder to get the calorie burn but if I do I will lose weight.

Every time I want to eat something I shouldn't I look at this quote.

The chief cause of disappointment and failure is trading what we want MOST for what we want at the MOMENT.

This was in someone's signature. I don't know who originally said it but it sure applies to me.

I am going to go check out Josie's site.

Joan

Tuesday

Good Morning all!

I did CLX Burn Circuit 2 this morning. This week and next week and this rotation is over. I would like to use STS somehow for a one body part per day rotation, but I am not sure if there is a breakdown by body part in any of the meso cycles, where you can just select "biceps" for example and get them together..

I went to Josie's blog and saw the video, how exciting that must be! :)

Garance, I would have made the same decision on the graduation...your dinner sounds delicious..;)

Joan, love the quote, I may use that in my signature line!

Hi to Kathy, Cathy and the vacationing Valerie!

Good morning,

Yesterday was an hour on the treadmill. Today is disc 22 chest, shoulders and triceps. I think this is the last week of the meso cycle. If it is I will repeat a week. I want my rest week to be June 20-27. Dh has a seminar in Las Vegas that week and I will go out with him. That saves one airline ticket and everything else will be free.

I will really have to plan what I eat on vacation.

Joan

Hi Deb, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did P-57 express workout and 2 miles with Leslie wearing my 10 lb. vest (60 min.)

My Zumba Total Transformation (yeah, right!) dvds came today, with two Zumba 2 lb. sticks that sound like maracas. More comedy for DH I suspect.

Deb, I forgot to congratulate you on your Lucky Brand jeans. I love mine. In meso 2 it's pretty easy to do one body part at a time because that's basically what you do. You could just stop after chest, move on the next day to shoulders, and the next to tris. I am in the market for more Essential-C if you want to do an ebay hunt for me again. If not, that's okay too.

Joan, I forgot to congratulate you on your 1 lb. loss. Yes, my guess is that you will have to be careful about the food in Vegas. I have only heard about the buffets.

I am so impressed with Josie!

Hi to Cathy and vacationing Valerie.

Wednesday

Good Morning all!

Today I did a 40 minute I-Tread, 316 calories. It seems like the new HRM is working well.

Joan, I give you a lot of credit for being able to stay on the treadmill for an hour. When I do a 40 minute treadmill workout, I am counting down the seconds to 40 minutes...it's tough. You deserve a vacation, but yeah, watch out for the buffets! ;)

Garance, let us know how those dvd's are. I can see your DH smiling already...thanks for reminding me about Meso 2, she does do all one part at a time so I can just use those for my next rotation. I sent you an e-mail on the Murad...

Going over to see if there is any new info on Josie's ride....

Take care,

Hi Deb, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

I will have to preview my Zumba disks before trying them, although I might do the instructional one on Friday to see what all the moves are about.

Thanks, Deb, for finding some Essential-C for me. I still have a little left, so no hurry. It's just so much cheaper than buying from Murad, and I still love the stuff. I think it's why I don't have brown spots.

This coming weekend is alumni weekend, and I always have former students show up at some point. I wish I could remember all of their names! I am seeing someone who was NOT my student here for his 50th reunion. He wants to talk with me about psychoanalysis and Iago since I will be teaching a course in the spring on Shakespeare and Freud. Apparently he was the head of the British psychoanalytic association for many years. Should be interesting.

Feels more like fall than summer here. I was so enjoying the warm weather and sun. Darn.

LOL deb, yeah, that is sorta the way it is. the vet i work for says i'm the most on again off again employee he has ever had. actually. i started years ago working weekends, and then as people came and went my hours would increase and decrease according to when they needed me. i havent' been working much lately, but then he called me a few weeks ago and asked if he could call me out of retirement. LOL! so, as of now i work every other saturday and mondays. and, don't know how long i'll be doing that. he had to let an employee go , so needs me for awhile. sometime this month there is a vet coming that just graduated vet school and will be here for a year, so my hours will probalby go back to not much again.
so, sorry to write ya a novel. kinda hard to explain. i don't want to work fulltime, so i always steer away from that when my boss mentions it. :) i'm too old to work that hard!

we had a hugh storm last nite. flooded new braunfels, and other places. new braunfels got 11" of rain overnite. i think this part of texas is the only place it deals stuff like that. it can be so dry and then, one of these gigantic storms comes thru and floods everything. crazy!

well, been interesting this week. i was sick as a dog yesterday, couldn't even get out of bed. and, today i am fine, still have a bad sore throat and cough, but dont' feel bad. i did 3 of tracie's new FOcus workouts today. thay are sooo cool! i love them. i don't know if i have a cold or allergies, but i was on antibiotics and they did nothing, so the dr. sent me some allegra, so we will see if it works. otherwise, i have not worked out since last saturday. so, anyway, that is what i've been doing this week.

Thursday

Good morning all,

I just finished Lean Circuit 3, one more week of this rotation, believe me I am ready to do something else.

It's still rainy and cold here, hopefully this will change by the weekend. Not that I will have much time to spend outside, we have another agility trial and I am working at it both days.

Garance, I agree on the Murad. Of all the facial stuff I have tried ( lots!) this is still my favorite. Thanks for telling us about it! I would love to sometimes just wear it alone, it makes your skin look so nice, but it does not have sunscreen so I end up putting something over it. For alumni weekend, do you just hang out there with speeches or events?

Cathy, you did 3 workouts in one day??..hope you are feeling better. I would like a job like yours. I always planned on working part time somewhere when I retire, just to have some cash coming in. It would be something I like, maybe work at something to do with animals.

Hi to Valerie, Joan & Kathy, and of course to Josie on the road!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Joan, Cathy (and Josie and Valerie, on the road again)--

This morning I did disk 21 for back and bis (59 min.).

Deb, I know you take a drug for osteopenia, and I just read a rather alarming article in More that you might want to read. It's about fractures to the femur caused by prolonged usage of a drug for osteopenia. Women just suddenly collapse--often after complaining about sudden episodes of back pain (sciatica). I can't remember which drug it is because the names are so convoluted, but I thought of you when reading it. It's the issue with Jamie Lee Curtis on the cover, but maybe the article is also online. I agree with you about Essential-C, and sometimes when DH and I go out at night, that's all I wear.

Cathy, can you do a review of the Tracie Long Focus workouts? What do you like about them? People seem somewhat ambivalent over at the videofitness.com site, and I haven't done anything by her in a very long time.

Joan, I also thought about you when reading the most recent issue of More. There's an article on a Biggest Loser style of "spa" for a little under $2000 per week that people go to and end up losing both weight and inches. They keep you at 1200 calories per day and do long hikes over rough terrain. I might look at their website tomorrow if I remember to bring the mag to my office.

Hi all, I'm back. we had a very good trip once again. Did two hikes and probably about 6 different mountain bike rides, inspite of rain one entire day over 5 days.. the rides were much harder than we were able to do last year so both of us have improved our skills, me especially. that is because I was so blasted BAD last year, there was a lot of room for improvement. regardless, we spent many hours each day doing tough cardio. we ate pretty well too so I don't expect weight loss. I do all the cooking so I don't have to deal with restaurant unknowns but we had some cookies, a little chocolate, and a cinnamon rolls with breakfast cereal instead of toast. I eat 'good" food, just a little too much of it. we split one chocolate bar over 2 days. weather was mostly lovely, lots of flowers and excellent scenery on the eastern edge of the north cascades national park.

I made one dish that DH really loves and it works very well for car camping. It's a ground turkey taco salad that is easy, and very tasty and (to my estimate) fairly low in calories for a main dish depending on variables that you can control. I'll post it if anyone is interested.

Joan, so many hotels/motels have a refrigerator in the room now. I don't know about Vegas though... when we stay someplace I head to the store and get non fat milk, yogurt, fruit and vegies so I can avoid the buffets etc.

I need to go back and check on last weeks thread to get up to date.

Good afternoon,

Garance I've always thought I would like a week somewhere to jump start my diet. I wonder if it is too much like the biggest loser and you could get hurt. I've been reading alot about the people who have been on the show and how they have gained so much back.

I seem to be losing at least a pound a week on my current diet. I try to keep it at 1150 calories for 5 days and last week I had a 1723 and a 1578 calorie day as a maintenance amount. I had that one (or two) bad weeks but since May 3 the eating has been pretty easy. Even for the two weeks I was starving I didn't gain those weeks. I am actually down a couple of more pounds today but won't log them in yet. Since May 3 I have lost 3 official lbs and 3 vacation lbs. Today I was at 167 so that would be a total of 9lbs in a little over a month. I'm not counting on the 167 holding until Monday but I hope it will.

I can't remember if I told you I would be gone from June 19 through the 27. My dh has a seminar in Las Vegas for half the week so he wants me to go so we only have one airfare. I just hope I can control the eating.

Joan

garance, i put one somewhere, let me see if i can find it and copy and paste. i really do like them. ya get alot done in 30 m.
ok, this is what i found that i posted.

not sure if i will give a very good review since i only have done them once. but i will say i was sweating like a pig during the kickbox one today, i mean dripping sweat and it is only 30 min. it is not pure kickbox like cathe's , but tracie uses weights in some of the segments, and it is good.
let's see, the stretch, yoga one is harder than you think, too. some basic yoga moves, but a couple of new moves. and, then the other one i did today was lower body, and of course, leave it to tracie to make 30 min. seem like much longer. it is about 20 m. standing leg work and then floor work. if i remember correctly, i think they all have abs , now the cardio one i did the other day, i can't really remember it. will have to do it again. but, they are all a great sweat!
cathy

deb, they were only 30 m. each and one of them was yoga/stretch, so it wasn't like 90 m. of cathe.:) and, i had not worked out for 3 days, today i did the firm's bootcamp maximum calorie burn. which was very hard after yesterday, cuz the lower body one made me really sore. i forgot that i don't do BCMCB after hard lower body. it was quite painful. so, not sure what is going on for the rest of the week. i may be riding at a horse show and i know i won't have energy to work out after that. so, it may be a very short workout week.
cathy

Finally Friday!!

Good morning,

I did a cardio coach this morning, and we just got back from walking the dogs. It is supposed to be sunny and warm today, we'll see.

Tomorrow and Sunday I am working at our AKC Agility Trial, so the weekend is basically a bust.

Garance, I will try to go on line and find the article you read in More. Lots of scary stuff has been published about these drugs. I am torn about whether to take them or not. My bone density scans show a very little bit of improvement, but no further loss.

Valerie, welcome back! From the sounds of it, you do not have to worry about what you ate. The exercise you did would surely cancel any calories out. I LOL at you and your DH spitting a chocolate bar over 2 days. When I eat chocolate, I would have not split it with my DH and I would have eaten the whole thing in 2 minutes..:D..

Joan, you are doing great on this plan! One pound a week is enough, it stays off that way. Losing too fast is not good, and everyone I ever knew that did that ended up gaining it all back once they ate any higher level of calories. Good that you have worked in a couple of days of higher calories. It keeps your body guessing and prevents "starvation" mode.

Cathy, thanks for the review, these sound interesting. Is there a web site that has them?

Besides Cathy doing a horse show, and me doing a dog show, what is everyone else doing this weekend?

Take care!
