Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/30

Good morning!!!

Happy 4th to you all! Finally nice here in Charlotte!

Deb that is so gross. What the heck is up with people???? Hope they get that guy. What a freak.

Yesterday I ended up doing HIIT double wave and then leg/abs from travelfit. This morning I did all of travelfit.

Today is the big family cookout. Yum. Lots of laughs and great food.

Josie...my T25 comes in on the 9th.

Reading the post from the new workouts I am really looking forward to the X10 and the flextrain.

Have a great day!!!!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did disk 33 STS for sh, bis, tris (61 Min.).

Deb, that is really gross! If he wants to film himself, why do it outside? He lifts exhibitionism to a new level. No special plans for today because DH finally thinks he can do some hay. It's still very humid, but at least it's not raining. What movie does John want to see? The ones that came out this weekend don't appeal to me. The Lone Ranger? Despicable Me? I loved Star Trek into Darkness and enjoyed World War Z despite it being rather dark, but I still want to see Heat with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock because I like both of the stars and female buddy films (wrote an article on Thelma and Louise).

Judy, meso 1 is definitely mega pushups and the fast-moving meso. Meso 3 where I am now is much, much slower and proceeds at a snail's pace if you take all the time she gives you in the squat rack legs. Do you think the tour de France is finally drug-free? I remain skeptical.

Enjoy your grandkids, Josie!

How big of a family reunion are you having, Lori?

Hi to Valerie!

Hi everyone,

We spent most of the day at FIL's cleaning house. In the past he wouldn't let us clean because he was afraid we would throw things out but now he just sits on his recliner and watches TV while we work :)We get a lot more done that way.

I talked to DH and I think he is going to clear an area in our basement for me to move my strength training/sts equipment to. I had too hard of a time trying to set things up in the bedroom. I can do Xtrain there with minimal problems, but not STS. If the bed wasn't in there I would be fine  but since it's a bedroom, it stays and I have to go. I'm going to start STS over in a couple of weeks or as soon as I get a new workout area set up.

Lynda-I don't think the Tour is drug free yet. Not sure if it ever will be. While I still enjoy following it, I am skeptical.

Judy

Good morning!

John just left for a 3 day fishing trip, and I am here hoping that the "exibitionist" has moved on to a different neighborhood. Actually, I hope he was riding around and the cops found him, but that is way too much to hope for with the Buffalo police.

Judy, saw your reply to my "script running error" post. Thanks for doing that...I don't think SNM believed that there is something wrong. I also no longer get e-mail notifications when someone replies to a thread I have written on...I checked my settings and they have not changed. Not too worried about that one though. Yay for getting a workout area in the basement!

Lori, it sounds like you are having a great family get together!

Garance, did you do anything to celebrate yesterday? We didn't really....cooked a couple of hot dogs on the grill, but we do that regularly anyway so no bid deal.

Hi to Valerie & Josie,

I am meeting my friend for breakfast this morning, first I have to get my butt downstairs on the treadmill....eating has been horrendous lately. I need an intervention or something.

Take care,

I've been AWOL much of the time lately. lots more garden work done. did another 30mile bike ride and a nice hike on wed. seems lots of people took the week off, almost like no one is working.
got loads done yesterday. first crops are done and needed to be pulled out and some things replanted. watering all the new bushes and trees we got this spring. and even got to sleep before the real noise started. the commercial displays are no problem but our neighbors....., well, they're a different story. we got it from all sides this year. we shut the windows and blinds, turn on fans and go to sleep. DH works today, one of the few days he works this month and then he's done. I think he'll adjust to retirement just fine.

yuck Deb. disgusting. probably just a chance thing that he parked in front of your house. too bad you didn't get the plate.

judy I love my basement workout room. never have to drag things in and out. always cool. always ready to go. we can leave things set up so we can work out without prep time. someone can work out without disturbing the other person. we built a finished room down there when we first moved here and it was a wise decision.

more problems with my mother. her docs say it's mostly dementia related. there isn't much else they can do for her anyway. incontinence is getting to be a bigger issue, and she seems to be forgetting to put on pants. yes, a sweatshirt and no pants. what a "look". Don't know how long my brother & his wife can manage this, but it's up to them.

Hi Ladies,

My DD and I did the first T25 workout yesterday. I was a sweaty mess but I liked it, the workouts have a modifier for beginners. I plan on taking the kids to the beach for a run before lunch and then I will do the second day of T25.

Deb, you would probably like T25, all the workouts are 25 minutes. I hope they get the pig that gave you a show;)

Valerie, sorry to hear about your mom.

Judy, I have my gym in the garage, but it took my DH years to clear it fo me :)

Lori, hope you have a good time at your family reunion.

Garance, are you working on any new sewing projects?

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit, premix 1 with core 1 (49 min.).

I did sew a couple of summer dresses, but now I'm trying to finish knitting a fairly complicated jacket. What is T25 Josie?

Deb, nope, didn't do anything yesterday of a festive nature. DH is really working hard to get some hay cut while it's dry and I'm just trying to stay cool with all this heat and humidity.

Judy, you will probably do much better with a dedicated space for all of your equipment. I can't imagine trying to workout in a bedroom. Too tempting! Did you manage to throw out some of the extraneous junk your FIL holds dear?

Too bad about your mom, Valerie. Maybe she's due for an assessment similar to what Judy did with her FIL.

Hi to Lori!

Hi Everyone,

Funny thing happened last night. I was playing around with the workout manager and calendar. I have no idea what I did, but when I went to my facebook page I had somehow enabled a post from the workout manager saying I had just finished Xtrain Bi's and Tri's:eek: It was about 9:30, and I still had some energy left so I did that workout instead of deleting the post:eek:

Deb-You're welcome! I hope they fix the script and any other errors, but I'm not too worried about it either. DH says that there is so much content on this site that he is surprised there aren't more problems.

Valerie-I'm really sorry about your mom :( I am afraid we are getting closer to that time with FIL also. I am so afraid we are going to get a call in the middle of the night from one of FIL's neighbors or the police saying that FIL is out wandering around and/or not dressed. Dementia is a horrible thing to deal with.:( So far he has not been incontinent but he won't bath without being told too.

Linda-we did get rid of some things, lots of expired products. He had canned food stockpiled in the basement, some of which expired in the 90's.

We have a lot more to do. DH and I are taking Monday off to work there and see what else we can accomplish to make it cleaner and safer for FIL.

Hi Josie & Lori

Judy

Hi ladies!

Had tons of fun yesterday. Love getting together with family and friends. Garance, not the entire family but a good group of us. We have this party every year at my brothers house. It is always different every year as to who can make it or not.

Been keeping up with the workouts too. It is easy when you get up early and everyone is sleeping in! This morning I did the HIIT double wave workout out again followed by some fire walker exercises for a total of 40 minutes. We then had enough sun for a while to get a good swim in. Felt like I really worked the legs in the water.

Josie...I can't wait for T25. I am really looking forward to an intense short workout for the mornings. I am hoping these will be them.

Judy...that is awesome about doing the workout instead of deleting the post. Too funny! In the next few weeks my son will be moving out and I am looking forward to having my workout area back in the basement. Right now all my stuff is pretty much in the living room.

Valerie and Judy...so sorry about your inlaws. This must be so hard on everybody. I can't imaging going thru this. And the no pants! My husband would die if he walked in and his mom forgot her pants. Bless you both for having to deal with these issues.

Home tomorrow. I am sure Chester will meet me at the door begging for a walk!

Lori, that's how it's so clear it's dementia. my mother ( not MIL, that was a couple months ago and she's passed on) she was PAINFULLY modest and now she doesn't care, and is walking around in a sweatshirt and nylon undies, or nothing at all. I talked to her about it when it was the undies, and she kept insisting they were "shorts". well, not the same thing. this has all happened pretty suddenly. she was forgetful about some things but clear just two months ago. I feel bad for my brother, it's a scene I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Judy, if my mother could walk we'd worry, but she is so immobile we worry more about her falling and breaking something. that is likely how she'll end up in a nursing home. I just assume that something like that will happen.

strangely, I was just at the grocery store. finishing checking out. this teen aged girl who'd been with an older woman behind me in line, went past and was heading for the door when she suddenly fell over like a falling tree, flat on her face. I waited a couple seconds thinking she'd get up, but she didn't. no one else was doing anything so I ran over there, got down on the floor and shook her gently a few times. she was out cold at first but then slowly lifted her head and I helped her sit up. by then 4 store employees were there, one guy calling 911. then she started to go over again but we caught her, and she didn't go out completely this time. she told me 'she tripped" which she clearly did not. I suggested we get her onto a bench that was 3 feet away. by this time the woman she'd been with.... her grandmother..... who'd not even walked over... she continued to check out her groceries like nothing had happened. I asked her if the girl had any medical problems and she said no but clearly she was not exactly "involved". I didn't have anything else to offer, so I left. don't know what was wrong but I've never seen someone topple over like that! wow. like a falling tree. hope she gets checked out.

Lori-thank you. It has been very hard. When I first met my FIL, in 2007, he was nothing like this, he was very modest. Now when he wanted to show us a a rash on his legs (last winter) he literally started to take his pants off in his living room. When we take him to the doctor he starts to take his clothes off almost before we get into the examining room. Ever since he fell and was in the hospital last summer he seems to almost be determined to undress in front of people. Kind of hard to deal with, but we can usually redirect him. That's why I'm afraid someone is going to call us and say he is out walking around half dressed.

Valerie-that is so weird about the young girl falling! It was very nice of you to help out. I hope she is ok.

Good night everyone,

Judy

Good morning all,

Happy Weekend for those that have to work...I think there are 3 of us left!

Valerie, sorry to hear about your Mom....I feel for your brother and SIL...it may be time to look for another place for her. Envious of your DH. As for the girl in the grocery store, maybe a diabetic thing? passing out like that is very dangerous....she was probably the driver for the pair of them. scary..

Josie, I would like the workouts for the short time, but I bet the impact is very high right?

Garance, knitting in this heat? Knitting to me is a winter activity, sitting by a fire, with a nice throw over your lap...

Judy, good for you for doing that workout, even if it was an error in the calendar! I wrote again to SNM about the script error....not sure if they will reply. I don't understand why more people aren't getting it. I know many elderly people that were fine mentally until they fall and break a hip etc. My grandmother was one of them, and my friends father....Then they start to decline mentally for some reason. John says that their bodies cannot deal with the trauma of the fall/break, and it affects brain cells or something....

Lori, how do you like Travel Fit? I wish she would do another all band workout, it seems perfect for the iPad, and well, travelling! :)

Agility class this morning, then HouseMax...will check back later...

Judy, I don't know if it's true for all, but it's a clear sign of dementia ( or too much medication)... normally modest people lose touch with conventional things, like being dressed! It was the first clear sign ( to me) that something was wrong with my mother mentally. sundowning is another thing. people get more weird in the evening / nighttime. not sure why, maybe related to darkness and making them even more disoriented than during the day. I know my mother's sleep patterns and meal patterns are completely upside down and it seems almost impossible to get her on some kind of normal schedule. your FIL sounds more manageable than my mother, but if he's able to walk pretty well he has the potential to get into more trouble.

a lot of older people fall because the hip breaks rather than the fall itself breaking the hip. usually means bones are not in decent shape anywhere else either. they are usually pretty debilitated, surgery may not be anything they would survive, they are stuck in a chair or bed. they get infections.
the girl in the store...no ideas. seizure? heart arrhythmia? diabetes? she was sucking down a big creamy starbucks drink so probably not low blood sugar. I'll never know. paramedics likely arrived shortly and would check pulse, BP, ask some questions.

did disk 1, ch,sh, back. increased weight on several moves, and then core 1.

Hi Ladies,

No workout today. I will be taking the kids to the beach. I'm having my family and a few friends over tomorrow at a restaurant called Le Cellier to celebrate my retirement. I plan on dancing the night away.

Deb, the new DVD's have a person modifing the moves for a low impact workout.
Look on YouTube.

Hi to Garance, Lori, Judy and Valerie!

Josie

Hi Everyone,

Today was a yard max day, very humid and I felt like I had been in a sauna when I was done.

Deb-I hope SNM fixes the script-error thing going on. I noticed a couple of other people posted in that thread too.

Valerie-FIL is pretty manageable. He still walks, but he's not as mobile as he was. I think he has severe osteoporosis, as he has a very pronounced dowager's hump, the worst I have ever seen. He is very stiff and shuffles when he walks. I remember reading something about shuffling being related to dementia in the elderly and it does seem like when his mind starting getting bad is when he started having trouble walking and began shuffling.
He seems to be pretty good about staying on a schedule so far though. I think there may be some sun downing going on, based on the few times we've been with him later in the evenings.

Hi to Lynda, Lori, and Josie!

Judy
