Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/26

Hi Deb, Valerie, Joan, and Cathy--

This morning I did Zumba cardio party (55 min.).

Valerie, my favorite Woody Allen films are Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, Purple Rose of Cairo, Bullets Over Broadway, Crimes and Misdemeanors, and Mighty Aphrodite. I thought Match Point was a bit too slick. I don't like it when Allen tries to imitate other directors (Interiors and Stardust Memories). I will be going to see Midnight in Paris this weekend. MMMM--wouldn't that be great if chips, pizza, and ice cream were the major food groups--the base of the pyramid? My metabolism has been steadily slowing from not being all that great. I was pretty chubby as a child--probably from being terribly nearsighted and sedentary. Leaned out in my teens when I started dancing and liked being slimmer, so worked at staying fairly lean through my 20s and 30s, with major weight gains during my pregnancies. The big slowdown was in my 40s.

Hope you find that squirrel, Deb! Wonder what he would do if you just decided to start exercising. Would he come out? Hey, maybe he's as health conscious as our mouse and will go for the fish oil.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Agility class this morning, followed by who knows what. It looks like it will be a beautiful day today, so maybe some garden weeding somewhere in between things.

No sign of the squirrel yet. We took Keegan into the basement ( on a leash) to see if he could flush the squirrel out. Nothing. We even had put a couple peanuts down there, just to see if he moved them or took them. Nothing. Maybe I am wrong and he did get out somehow. That's pretty scary, means the way in and out is pretty easy for them. I think I will just pretend he isn't there and start exercising tomorrow again.

Cookout tomorrow at my brother's, everything else is just play it by ear. DH actually mentioned possibly going to see that Woody Allen movie, he never, ever wants to go to a movie. Not sure what's up with that.

What's everyone else doing this weekend?

I generally don't like woody allen movies especially if he's in them. annoying guy... I find a lot of his movies annoying. I'm not sure what exactly, but the characters, their actions, mannerisms are just annoying! maybe that's why I liked Matchpoint... didn't seem like a WA movie. I liked the Purple Rose of Cairo but must have seen it 25+ yrs ago. Jeff Daniels? DH doesn't like WA movies either but I'm more willing to give them a try. I usually don't mention it until after. I've heard good vibes about Midnight in Paris so I'll get it when available & reserve judgement. I don't care much for owen Wilson so a couple obstacles to overcome.

I was 'stocky" as a child, as were my sister & brother. I'm reasonably toned but tend toward muscle/bulky. sister & brother are obese. sister is totally inactive, brother is active but can't/won't control food. eats junk, lots of it. it's sad to see both of them deteriorating due to bad habits. I don't want to end up like them! I have more muscle now than I did at 30 but it doesn't allow me to eat without watching every bite.

Another episode of deer wrangling yesterday. I went to pick some things and when I got to the broccoli suddenly the fawn jumped up and bolted right in front of me. about gave me a coronary. so I hazed, chased, charmed it for an hour before I got it to go out the open gate. I'm proud to say the deer was more out of breath than I was. we thought we figured out how he got in but we're wrong and will look more. he might be pushing under the netting somewhere. the netting is way too strong for him to go thru it as he keeps running into it trying to get out. he's so tiny but gutsy. he ran right past an open gate a dozen times. still tiny, must not weigh 30 lbs. it works better if I talk to him and gently try to haze him toward the open gate rather than chase him. the fence and gate are 8 foot talk black plastic netting zip tied to T-posts. it's heavier than bird netting.

Deb, good luck on the squirrel pursuit. he probably got out the way he got in. we had a squirrel once and I trapped it under a wastebasket. slid cardboard under, and took him outside. think he came down the chimney. had a bat too. that was easier.

Did disk 27 yesterday and strained my rt shoulder so no weights for a couple days. feels like a strain. planning on a bike ride or two and gardenmax this weekend. DH is on call all weekend so can't go anywhere distant.
