Good morning & Happy Flag Day!

My brother and SIL are having a family gathering today to celebrate my retirement. They wanted to wait until the weather was nicer so we can all be outside. I hope there is no rain today.

Valerie, wow, eating the ant traps with the poison inside? I would think this would kill them eventually.

Lori, I can just picture you walking Chester with Nilla tucked in your arms...so cute! what about some of the KCM weight workouts? Nice and short, total body, and you can make it as hard or easy as you want.

Hi Judy, Josie, Lynda, & Dawn,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

a second mouse free morning. Ate part of a Raid ant trap in the original box left from last year! you could see the white plastic was eaten, along with contents. so, apparently they will eat anything. we put a second rubber strip on one garage door, doubling it. they'd eaten away a corner about half inch by one and a half inches. It was fairly new, we replaced an old one last year. Hope this does it!. Riding today. yesterday was garden and shopping.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Dawn--

This morning I did BarreAmped (53:00).

Deb, how nice to have another retirement party! The weather is beautiful here, so I hope it's as sunny and mild where you are. Glad to hear PT will help you with movement. FIL is doing okay, but they just refuse any outside help. DH is helping him with showers. He still cannot read even with magnifying lenses, so he is very frustrated. He is moving about with a cane, but basically stays in the house or out on their little deck.

Valerie, those mice are certainly persistent little buggers. Is there anything you can put on those rubber strips to poison them? Nothing will discourage their chewing I guess. The CIA offices were infested with bats in Spy--thought you might enjoy that.

Lori, Nilla has you wrapped around her little pawsies. We have two golf courses here in Williamstown. One is owned by the college and is actually rather posh. You have to be a member. The other one is a public golf course. Our younger son is a member of the Taconic and this is why he is here a lot on weekends. I enjoyed Spy and had a lot of laughs, but it is preposterous most of the time--very broad comedy--and some of the verbal aggression (a lot of cursing) seemed excessive.

Dawn, after reading We Are Not Ourselves this fall and then seeing Still Alice, I just don't want anymore fictional representations of early-onset Alzheimer's. I have had my fill for awhile. The novel was really hard to get through, and I remember complaining about it. I'm still not sure why I finished it. The writing was very good.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good evening ladies!

Another beautiful day here. Did SB BootCamp Barre. This was an advanced workout in a group class setting. Really liked it and will be doing this one again. Chester and I went for a somewhat long walk plus when he went for a swim he absolutely did not want to get out. Couldn't blame him! We took it slow and he did very well coming back.

Deb...that is so nice have a retirement party for you. Beautiful weather too. Never thought of KCM!!! Great idea. I think Muscle Up would be perfect. I need to dig it out and bring it in.

Valerie...crazy they would eat the ant poison. Have fun today!

Lynda...I am excited about learning to play golf. Hoping I am a quick learner. There is a driving range not to far from here that he is bringing me to on Saturday to practice. We are looking forward to GOT tonight. DS and his DGF will be over and we are watching on the screen outside again. We loved it last week so we are repeating. My DS and I have been trying to figure out how they will end it. So many ways they could.

Anyone watching Wayward Pines on Fox? I read the books and have been watching it On Demand. It's a scifi mystery staring Matt Dillan. I enjoyed the books and so far liking the show.

Have a great night all! Hi to Judy, Josie an Dawn!

Good morning,

A very nice time at the party yesterday, I feel guilty with all this continuous celebrating! The rain came right when most of the people had gone. We were lucky for a 3 hour break in rain. That let my brother and SIL have it outside.

Valerie, you will get those mice eventually! Have a good ride today.

Lynda, so sorry about your FIL, hope things improve. Do they think his vision will get better with time? I can't imagine someone that likes to read having that happen.

Lori, so good that Chester can get a walk and a swim in again! Have you ever golfed before? It is something I have not tried. I think you either have "the bug" or you don't. Have not seen that show on Fox.

Hi to Josie, Judy, Dawn,

A workout, (I am in week 2 of Meso 2 STS), and errands today and just things around the house,

Take care,

Had a very nice ride yesterday. 25 mile road ride. sometimes I like dealing with cars better than dealing with pedestrians on our trail ride. this was early sunday am and quiet roads. I tried a new long sleeve shirt I got from Title 9 a "rash guard" long sleeve shirt. I put on sunscreen anyway in case it was too warm but it was quite comfortable. I don't like using sunscreen and prefer clothing if I can find things that work.

Lori I used to golf, long ago. I was a reasonable player. I worked graveyard shift & went golfing with co workers after work early am. It was soon clear that I am allergic to grass. badly allergic. seems to be mostly domestic lawn grass. it was a fair amount of exercise. we used to walk and carry our clubs over 18 holes. I started up sneezing and itchy eyes that lasted for days so gave that up along with lawn mowing. don't miss the lawn mowing!.

we added some side strips on the garage doors adding a third layer at the door bottom. I think we have got this covered! no mice this morning.

Lynda that is too bad about FIL. is he getting any PT? visiting nurse or chore worker assistance?

Hi Ladies,

I finished packing for our trip, it was- bit of a challenge because we each are taking one bag. We don't want to check in our luggage so we are only taking a carry on bag. I'm not looking forward to the flight. I can never sleep on the plane and I end up wasting a whole day recuperating. Any suggestions?

Lori, I plan on starting the 21 day fix when I get back. I did not gain any weight at ALC, but I did gain streghth on my upper body:). Did you like the GOT finally?

Valerie, good luck with the mice situation. When I ride I always wear long sleeves, I don like getting an uneven tan and I'm usually comfortable.

Garance, hope that your FIL recovers his sight. He must be so frustrated.

Deb, glad that you had a good time at your party.

Hi to Judy and Dawn!

Josie

Good morning all--

This morning I did both low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

Lori, I did start watching Wayward Pines but I can't figure out whether it's some elaborate conspiracy or truly post-apocalyptic. If you have read the books, I guess you know. GOT was awful last night. I felt terrible after watching it. I'm not sure I even want to read/see more. At least I know Arya is not permanently blind from the book. Good luck on the golf! I never really got into it, but I was on the golf club in high school. Can't remember why though. My younger son is a very good golfer, and my FIL was too until this stroke. He still has hopes he can get back on the golf course.

FIL has tunnel vision. He is not blind. The ophthalmologist thought his vision might improve--no guarantees. His regular doctor did not recommend PT, and as I said, they don't want outside help. He does have someone working on his garden. DH thinks the major issue is the condo with all of its accidents waiting to happen--rugs, no railings, low toilets, etc.

I don't know, Josie--why not ask your doctor for a sleeping pill? How long of a flight is it? It sounds like the airlines are now asking for even smaller carry-on bags, so at least you will escape that further restriction.

I am reading a very good novel now--A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson. She really knows how to create believable characters, and even if you don't always like some of them, they are still fun to watch behave badly.

Glad you had a nice celebration, Deb. The weekend here was so lovely after the thunderstorms on Friday night. Today is drizzly.

Back from a 32.5 mile ride. really nice out but got too warm for long sleeves. I wore it most of the way but got too warm toward the end.

Josie I second Lynda on the carry on bag issue. I read something about this maybe 6 months ago, but it showed up again in the news sunday. said the International air transport association wants to downsize acceptable limits to 21.5 x 13.5 x7.5 inches deep. no US airlines have signed on yet, but since you will be flying internationally you should check your airline. it can mess up your schedule if you unexpectedly have to check your bags. Sounds like a very minor size change that will force many of us to buy new luggage. I never check bags either so I'm watching this story closely.
Josie how long is the flight? I can't sleep on planes and things like Ambien last too long. maybe an anti anxiety med? Xanax or Ativan? or what ever your doc recommends. might be shorter acting products available. maybe even Benadry if that makes you sleepy. you should try one at home so you know how you react. don't want to arrive and be drifty from meds.

Lynda, they should probably get some home upgrades done. grab bars in the shower, low threshold shower, risers on the toilet seat, hand held shower head, seat for shower. some of those are very simple to do. a social worker or visiting nurse evaluation can list out the things that should be done. there's a huge selection of devices to work with existing fixtures. ... Amazon is a good place to shop for them. local stores are usually over priced but they sometimes have used items too and of course no wait for shipping . better to do what is possible & uncomplicated before an accident happens.

Good morning,

A nice day yesterday, errands, workout, etc. I made my PT appointment for tomorrow morning. I hope I can go there once, get the exercises and do them at home.

Valerie, that sounds like a great ride. It sounds like The Battle of the Mice is ending and you WON! :). My ant battle is winding down, I have only seen 1 ant in about 3 days.

Josie, I cannot sleep on planes either. I would try Benadryl. I don't know how you can go on a trip for that long with just a carry on bag. That's amazing.

Lynda, I hope your in-laws are able to get the condo more "handicapped friendly". Is tunnel vision like macro-degeneration? I looked at the book you are reading, I have not read that one, but tried to read one of hers called "Case Histories" which is the first in a series. For some reason I could not get into it. I am reading the latest book in a series by Lisa Lutz, the series is about the Spellman family, the first is called The Spellman Files. It's quirky, but funny and a different way of writing that works for the series.

HI to Judy, Lori, and Dawn,

Take care,

Good evening ladies,

At lunch yesterday we did Barre Fix. This really is a great leg workout. After all these weeks we still feel a nice deep burn through out this one. In the evening was SB Arms which is another little gem. You use significantly lighter weights then Cathe's workouts but by the end of the 18 minutes your arms feel worked.

Lynda...GOT :(. Like you I thought they tried to fit it so many storylines. Very sad at the end. Even though I read the books really did not think it was final. After reading an interview with Jon Snow yesterday it sounds it is what it is. So sorry to hear about your FIL. Hoping his vision improves.

Josie...good luck on the 21 day. I really have transformed it now to my everyday eating habits. Was very easy to do. I increased my calories a bit because I reached my goal and do not want to lose any more. I really like the plan.

Deb....your retired! You need to sleep later!!!!!!! Funny you still post really early. Don't think I answered your question if I am still using the 21 day containers and yes as I mentioned to Josie. Although I no longer have the blue one due to Chester deciding to chew on it. Naughty boy. I was able to find a substitute so all is good. :)

Valerie...good to know the possible change with carry on. My DS and I are going to NC July 4th weekend and plan on just carry on. Need to look into this. Great ride!

Hi to Judy and Dawn!

Lori... no US carriers have announced anything yet that I've heard. if your carry-on was OK before, it probably still will be. the changes are really minor besides, but if they drag out the "size boxes" your bag needs to fit in..even an inch extra won't fit. my bag is a standard size which is slightly larger than the new norms if they are adopted. this came up a while ago, and then the topic dropped off the radar. I often put my bag under the seat in front of me. I find sitting with my feet on the bag edge comfortable and it's an option if the bins are full. depends on the plane , and doesn't work for window seats. I also read about one airline planning to make the bathrooms smaller to add more seats. I am not a large person and the last time I flew the bathroom was so small I almost could not turn around. a big or tall person...I don't know how they could do it and still shut the door.
we don't fly much. I will be ticked off if I need to buy another bag because mine is an inch too long and an 1 inch too fat. ..or else pay bag fees to check it.
I still have your 21 day info sitting in a file and am promising myself to look at it. I've been cranking the mileage and eating carefully but don't think anything is happening. it's like my metabolism decided I'm staying where I am regardless of what I eat or do.

Deb, It does look like mouse battle is won. we have 3 layers over the door corners now. considerable chewing to get thru. I still wake up early. usually 5-6. If your DH gets up early it's pretty hard to sleep through. good luck on the therapy. I can't imagine finger exercises being complicated.

Saw a ad for Wayward Pines while DH was surfing thru things yesterday. will try to check it out. We've been watching The Tudors. it has 4 seasons and is very good. not sure how accurate it is historically but it's more than I knew before.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Dawn--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with bonus abs 1 from the RWH series (47:58).

Deb, I looked up that series at Amazon after I saw someone recommended it over at the open forum. Nope--definitely not for me when someone compared it to that other series by Plum. I read one of those and did not find it worth my time. I think the only women detectives I like are V.I. Warshawski and Kinsey Milhone, and sometimes they wear a bit thin. Some clunkers in both series by Paretsky and Grafton, but overall intelligent writing. I love Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield, but she isn't really a detective. Tunnel vision is just a very narrow range of vision, like looking through a very narrow scope--no peripheral vision.

Lori, maybe Jon will turn into a warg--his direwolf Ghost?? The actor Harington is pretty definite on not coming back though.

Valerie, congratulations on defeating those critters! I agree on plane bathrooms. Everything gets tighter every year. I really don't know how some heavier people handle the seats. They look like sausages oozing over the sides and I hate sitting next to them. Sigh--I really have developed a strong antipathy to plane travel. It's just not an adventure anymore, but an ordeal to endure in order to get where you want to be.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did Slow & Heavy Biceps & Triceps. I added the barre and core work from Lean Legs and Abs. I also did a short ab workout "Lotte Berk Method Abs". It's from a DVD that I have had for a long time but never tried. It was pretty good, just basic ab & core exercises. Today I did S&H Chest & Back.

We went to Columbus, OH on Saturday for a stamp show. It's about a 3 1/2 hour drive, so we left here around 7 am, stopped for breakfast half way and got there before noon. We stayed at the show most of the afternoon. We were back home by 7 or so. Looks like we are going back to Ohio again this weekend, as there is something DH wants to do in Toledo.

Sunday I watched the season finale of Veep. I haven't really followed any other shows this year. Since season 4 wasn't available on Amazon for streaming I subscribed to HBO Now so I could watch it.

Josie-I agree with Deb-Benadryl will help you sleep. That's what I took when I was flying and wanted to sleep. Hope you have a great trip!

Lynda-I'm sorry about your FIL. I hope that their condo can be made safer without too much difficulty.

Valerie-Great ride! Glad you got the mice problem taken care of.

Hi to Lori, Deb, & Dawn! Hope everyone is having a good week!

Judy

Good morning,

It looks like we might get a beautiful ( rain free!) day here today.

Lori, you are doing so great with keeping the Ladies working each day, and then doing another workout of your own in the evening. I don't know how you have the energy! Also keeping up with the 21 DF eating plan. :)

Valerie, I remember when the news of a smaller carry-on bag was out a while ago, and it seemed to just fade away. Maybe there was a lot of back lash or something. I don't like the fact that they would change the size, but there has to be something to cut down on what people carry on...it 's crazy trying to get on a plane...with all the stuff that they have to put in the overhead compartments, and there are always some that just won't fit, and have to be checked anyway, causing delays. I think they need to reduce the cost of checking bags, so more people would do it. $25 for the first bag is ridiculous. I don't think the finger exercises will be complicated, I kind of feel stupid even going, but I don;t like to think of never being able to use this finger again and at least have to try something. Planes and travelling for work was a big part of my decision to retire.

Lynda, will need to go look at that Thomas Perry series. I like most of female detective stories, some are definitely better than others. I love the family dynamic in The Spellman series.

Judy, wow, Lottie Burk, have not heard that name in a long time! Didn't she do Pilates? Veep is listed as a comedy on Prime, is it a drama as well? I have it in my Watch List, but not sure what it's about.

Josie, all packed and ready to go? When to you leave and come back? Any other travel while you are there?

Hi to Dawn,

Take care,

I got used to using a carry on only because of all the travel I did for work. I'd had bags "lost" several times and it was terrible... going to FL for a 5 day sales meeting and there you are, with only your travel clothes while the airline tries to locate your bag. every meeting there'd be at least half a dozen people waiting for lost luggage.
My regular work involved flying to distant locations, doing equipment install/ training. if my "gear" didn't arrive, there was no point in my being there. I HAD to carry it on. I usually was there for only 1-2 days. so I streamlined my supplies & carried it. that's when free bag check was part of ticket price, and people traveling for pleasure usually checked things. business travelers were usually the only carry-on people. Now, airlines make too much money on bag check fees... they've created the carry on problem themselves. If they allowed free check in of one piece of luggage, the problem would go away.
One thing that annoyed me was the first people boarding, often with seats to the rear, would stick their bags in the first overhead bins. they didn't have to carry their bag to the back... then people seated closer to the front would find the bins full even though no one was seated near there, and would go further back to stow their bag. and then try to get back to the front where they were seated. and then have to repeat the process when they arrived. okay enough about planes!!

DH and I are going a short backpack today. want to test our new tent and also get familiar again. haven't backpacked much in the last few years, want to make sure everything works and we didn't forget how to do it. .

Deb, hope PT goes well. I would think one or two sessions at most... doesn't seem like there would be a lot of complicated things for a single finger.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, Judy, and Dawn--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:15).

Judy, I love Veep. After Melissa McCarthy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is my next favorite funny woman. I guess I also like the show because I am so cynical about those clowns we have elected at every level. It's not clear what party she belongs to, but it doesn't matter. They all deserve to be satirically skewered.

I fly Southwest most of the time and you get two free bags checked if you want. They have never lost one of my bags.

Deb, I think my SIL did PT on her hand after she broke her wrist. She really wanted to get everything back because she was a pianist. Jane Whitefield helps people 'disappear'--create a new identity in order to escape a dangerous, life-threatening situation. She's a really interesting character. You might like Veep, although I seem to remember you not liking Alpha House, another political satire.

Have fun backpacking, Valerie!

Bon voyage, Josie!

Hi to Lori and Dawn!

Good evening ladies!

Today we did Barre Fix. Was suppose to be lower. But the youngest 40 something year old in our workout group decided to do a kart wheel after working out on Tuesday and strained her right glute a bit. Apparently, with all the working out we have been doing she was a little over confident. We teased her relentlessly and stuck with barre which she preferred. :) Tonight I did Cathe Live Boxing with Leg Blasts but stopped at the blasts. First 1/2 was the boxing so it was easy to stop. I used no weights to keep it light for my shoulder. I have not received the results on the MRI so I'll call my DR in the morning. Shoulder has been feeling really good lately.

Valerie...good to hear the mice are under control. I would hate to be traveling for business and no luggage. Have a great trip.

Deb...I really have no idea where my energy comes from. I have always been this way. I will admit I will get to a point where I just need to go to bed early and sleep in. Then when I wake I am off an running again until I need that recharge. The 21 day seems to be working for me so I'll stick with it. Don't get me wrong I do cheat every now and then but I just hop right back on.

Judy...what a great workout. That is another Cathe Weight workout I have and have never done! I have only been using weights for about 4 years now. I would buy Cathe's dvd when they came out use everything but put aside the weight ones thinking someday. Then on a whim I did P90x with my son about 4 years ago and finally wanted to incorporate weights into my workout. Now I can not imagine not using them. My brother had a huge stamp collection when we were younger. I'll have to ask what he did with them.

Lynda...I like Southwest also and Jet Blue. I always seem to get the best prices through them.

Hi to Dawn and Josie!!!

Hi Everyone,

Today I did a short Spinerval. I had a deep tissue massage this afternoon. I think I will take a rest day tomorrow then back to weights on Friday.

Deb-Here is the Lotte Berk site:

http://www.lotteberkmethod.net/

The dvd I have is called "Hip Hugger Abs". I think I bought it on Amazon a few years ago. I've been meaning to use it but never got around to it until this week. It looks like they do a lot of Barre and body weight exercises in their program.

Lynda- I love Veep and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She has so much talent. I loved The New Adventures of Old Christine too.

Valerie-I had my luggage lost a few times on work trips and it was such a pain. I also learned to rely more on carry on bags. I've never been camping or backpacking.

Lori-It's great that your shoulder feels better! I hope you get your MRI results soon. I really need to get into the Cathe Live workouts. They are all so much fun!

Hi to Josie & Dawn!

Judy

Good morning,

PT was good, she gave me exercises ( stretches) to do, showed me how to do them. I am going back Tuesday, I guess it's going to be once a week for a few weeks.

Valerie, hope you had a good hike, and that the new equipment works out. I can certainly understand why people want to carry on a bag rather than check one in and have it get lost. I have to say, with all the travel I did over the years, I never had a bag not arrive at my destination. I cannot see how 3 or 4 days of business wear could be packed into a carry on though. I had a guide that I used, it if was more than 2 nights, I had to use a checked bag. As others have said, Southwest and Jet Blue are great airlines, and they don't seem to be suffering from not charging for bag check-in.

Lynda, I think John started that series. Wasn't she an American Indian? Not sure why that comes to mind when you said she helps people disappear.

Judy, thanks for the link, I guess it is more barre than Pilates. I watched the first 4 episodes of VEEP last night, it's pretty good. Sad to say, but it does seem to be pretty realistic. I remember stamp collecting being such a big hobby when I was kid, and not just for adults. Now? I don't think I have ever hear of a kid wanting to look at or collect stamps. Another one of the sad losses to electronic gadgets I guess. I also have never been camping or back packing, strange how that is.

Lori, a cart wheel? really? that is too funny. I guess not funny that she got hurt doing it,

Hi to Josie & Dawn,

Take care,
