Good morning,

I worked the trial yesterday, no workout, but I wish I would have had a FitBit or some type of step tracker on. I must have walked a few thousand steps in the 4 hours I was a leash runner in one of the rings. :)

Judy, congratulations on reaching your first 20,000 steps! That is a real accomplishment!

Diane Sue, great workouts. I am surprised that I have not had any issues with my regular workout gloves and the Polar HRM. I know the heavy boxing gloves are a lot bigger though.

Carolyn, do your have some type of lunch or "coffee" thing after your investment meeting?

Lori, sorry about your sleeping and Nilla keeping you up. They say that elderly dogs can get that "sundown" syndrome that people get when they are older....where their days and nights are mixed up. Have you asked your vet about it?

Off to the last day of the trial....Kylee is entered in 2 events...I hope she is as enthusiastic as she was on Friday. :). Then we have to load all the equipment back on the truck to take back to the training hall....a long day for sure...

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Deb, good luck with the trials today. I bet you did get a lot steps in yesterday. You probably do most of the days you work . Even the packing it back into the trucks would get a lot of steps. My heavy bag gloves c9ver myFit Bit and since it is touch screan it gets turned off. I used to occasionaly have the weight lifting gloves and weighted gloves hit the buttons on the side of my Polar Watch too.

Good morning.. I am back last night after 11 hours of driving. We were really busy with house things all week and didn't get to do anything fun. furniture shopping is stressful. we drove with a uhaul trailer, unloaded all the stuff we have so far and tried to check and use most of the things in the house just to make sure all works. Of course a few things didn't. no towel bars. front door lock broke, one plug for the microwave kept flipping the breaker. couple minor plumbing leaks. someone forgot to install the exhaust hose for the dryer, wasn't even there or we would have done it. I have a plain exhaust fan over the cooktop. when I turned it to high while grilling some chicken, you could hear the fan blade scraping the filter so we took the filter off to see what was going on, and the plastic blade running on high speed took off like a helicopter and hit the stove top and then the floor still spinning like crazy. ....oh... it was hilarious. supposed to be attached!. it wasn't! it was scraping the filter because it was detached. the things come pre assembled so manufacturer problem.
lots of finishing bits to be done but this was the first time we actually could 'see" things, and it tuned out very well. especially considering we figured out this floor plan and design ourselves and picked colors and appliances from online and reading. our builder stopped by and we went thru the list of things and all was getting done soon. floor, cabinets, counter tops all great! appliances all work and look fantastic. I did not go high end, but better than builder grade.

unfortunately no formal exercise but plenty of walking, unloading, shopping etc. we were both exhausted every day I did not read last weeks thread so I will catch up today and tomorrow. Deb best of luck on the trials today.

Good afternoon ladies!

Today I did Cathe Live Bands and Bodyweight. I then comtinued on with the band section on BBS Hips Thighs and Buns DVD. 68 mins / 468 cal. I love Cathe's live band workout. Today though I did all of the impact intervals on the jumpsport. I used 2lb ankle weights thru out and 2lb hand weights when on the jumpsport. Told my husband I could easily see him doing this workout with me. Thinking he will. He likes the idea of using the jumpsport. And since we have 2 we can do this together. Fingers crossed. Right now he has passed the 50lb mark. He wants to lose 20lbs more. I think he looks great where he is.

Deb...you must be exahusted! Yes...a ton of steps for sure. I will speak to our vet about Nilla. She is constantly up and down off the bed. When she gets down she forgets how to use the stairs to get back up. So she comes to my side and cries till I pick her up. 10 mins later same thing. This will go on for an hour or two then she finally settles in only to start up again later during the night. It is not every night but 2 to 3 a week. Lately, I feel like I m always playing catch up with my sleep.

Valerie...Welcome back! Sounds like you had your hands full this week. Please take pictures of your new home especially since you designed it. I bet it will be just perfect when all is done. Would love to see it!

We did some yard work today and now it is just too hot to do anything. Temp says 87 degrees. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining...more like just want to sit and enjoy it!

Have a great afternoon all!

Hi Everyone,
No workout for me today. This was a day for family time and relaxation. Judy, I missed the part of your post about getting 20000 steps. That's wonderful. I haven't reached that point yet. Valerie, welcome back. You have had a very busy week. It takes a while to get everything sorted out in a new home.

I hope everyone is having a good day. Take care.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a short outdoor walk/run, mostly walk. This afternoon I did Cathe Live Triset Legs. That was a short but tough one! This is one that I will do again.

Deb-I bet you did get a lot of steps working the trial! I hope it went well today!

Lori-Congratulations to your husband for losing 50 lbs! That is awesome! I'm sorry that Nilla is having trouble at night. I think Deb is right, it might be sundowning. Maybe the vet can suggest something to help.

Valerie-That is a lot of driving! It's exciting but stressful to move.

Carolyn-Thank you! I was surprised to get to 20,000, but it was a busy day, with lots of cleaning and running up and down the stairs doing laundry, grocery shopping, and working out.

Hi to Diane Sue!

Judy

we were both really tired but did a road ride this morning to shake off the cobwebs/inertia of no exercise. did a 25 mile in 2 hrs 10 min, a usual one with a long bathroom break in the middle, the only one for me. men are so lucky they can go anywhere. makes for respectable mph while riding. Felt fine. we were pretty active all week, just no formal exercise but it felt great to do something aerobic. it is 700 plus miles driving each way so it is a lot. took us longer with the uhaul, more like 12.5hrs.
Ha Lori, we designed it to be very simple and didn't want a fancy floor pattern with intricate layouts. it turned out well. we hired a draftsman to draw it up when we could not find a floor plan like we wanted. it was no more $$ than buying a pre done building plan. believe me, it is not complicated. we showed the builder how we wanted it positioned, and he was easy to work with and took it from there. We wanted it to work for us, but also wanted something we could sell easily if it doesn't work for us, and I think we accomplished that. we are being very neutral on colors and patterns. but it's not boring, looks very nice. very open, lots of storage, decent appliances, granite countertops. Nothing weird! we used the same surfaces in more than one place and it links it all together.

not that it's any help, but after we've been gone.......... our cat gets up at night and meows in the middle of the night. almost like he's looking for us even when we are right there. he liked s to sleep next to me but sometimes he gets up and meows for his own reasons.. he is getting up in years, 15 or so. never can be real sure with a shelter kitty. Chihuahuas can live a long time!. feisty little guys! Hope you can work out a way to get sleep and keep the Nilla happy. I know sundowning....my mother has a bit of it. She sits up all night watching tv , sleeps half the day, meals get later and later so she is eating breakfast at 2pm. She resists getting on a "normal" schedule. No idea if it could happen to dogs.
50 lbs is huge. Be proud of him! Huge accomplishment

Deb, Hope Kylee kicks butt in her events.

Good morning,

I had a great time at the trial this past weekend. Kylee qualified in one event and got her title ( we needed 1 more leg)…and she moved up in that event and got the first leg for the next level. Of the ones she did not qualify in, she did a great job, was enthusiastic and having a good time. That is all I can ask for. :)

Valerie, welcome back! Whew, you really worked a lot and with all that driving too. It sounds like the house is really come along well. Yes, as Lori mentioned, would love to see some pics of the house.

Lori, that is great that your husband wants to do that workout with the JumpSport, and High Fives to him on the weight loss. Hopefully your vet may be able to give Nilla something to relax her at night...poor little thing.

Carolyn, a nice day with family sounds perfect.

Judy, thanks for reminding me about Live Triset Legs...that is really a good one.

Lots of errands to run today, and HouseMax that was left from the weekend of playing….maybe a workout too.

Take care,

This is a busy week and I have to get out to do errands today and try to get the bulk of the house work done. I am holding off on a second week of STS meso 2 till possibly next week. Today I did Jari Love Extremely Ripped 1000 Hardcore 73 minutes, 507 calories. When I used to use the polar I got 661 with this one. Oh well, still a good calorie burn. I was dying with some of those high rep weight moves. It is a little brutal when you think surely you are done and she goes on to make it 6 sets of tons of reps with a brief slower paced break. No stopping though. Remembered that this is the one that all of the quick curtsy lunge over the bench made my knee hurt. I got off the step and did it on the floor like some of the other participants in the workout. I think using some metabolic workouts will work well this week as far as getting a bit of everything in. I got 4575 steps in with this workout.

Valerie, great to have you back. Your new home sounds nice even with a few things that need fixed. I know you are going to love it.

Lori, that is great that your husband likes to use the Jump Sport. I don't think that mine would. That is great that he has lost 50 pounds. Mine lost 80 and is trying to lose a bit more this month. He kind of stopped and maintained for awhile.

Deb, that is great that Kylee did well this time and was having fun.

Judy, I liked the live tri-sets legs too. It is a good one.

I started the Cathe June rotation today. I did All Out Low Impact HiiT from XTrain. Workout time was 41 minutes with 292 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 159. I really like this workout even with the disc segment.

I was reading an interesting thread on another forum about the Live Senior Fit 2 workout. I was surprised by the number of members who said that they no longer do Cathe workouts because they are too intense. I have certainly adjusted how I do my workouts, but I would be very sad to give them up completely. I try to be aware of my body and not overdo things. I previewed the Senior Fit, but I don't see myself doing it at the present time. It's good to have it as option however.

Lori, our investment club has been together for 17 years. We started discussing it at the end of 1999 and officially organized in January 2000. Deb, the hostess provides light refreshments and we visit a bit after the meeting. Our group was smaller this month because several people were out of town. One member was participating in a senior swimming competition.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Carolyn, I always have felt that All Out Low Impact Hiit moved along quickly with the changes in it. I like it a lot too. Thanks for reminding me to pull out my Jari Love workouts. Maybe some seniors just have more not been working out as long. I don't see myself cutting back a lot right now. I know I do a lot less and am more careful of certain moves than I was even 5 years ago. It is good to be aware though that out bodies don't come back from an injury or overdoing as well as when we were younger.

We were out of food so I did a Costco run yesterday afternoon. don't like to go on sundays. a regular grocery run today after getting the mail etc.

I can't exercise the same way I used to. I used to run mainly. now my knees don't like that much. I can still run, but I can't use it as the main, primary fitness method, and neither can DH. I don't do high impact moves with a lot jumping, especially moves where cathe moves her legs outward and then back while jumping. Hiking very steep terrain is harder than it used to be, although I have always had trouble going downhill and slow down a lot as steepness increases. this is not 'new", I've never been a good downhill hiker. so I ride more now, and focus a lot more on safety since injuries sure mess up life until you are healed. I never purchased or did Cathe's toughest workouts.
in her newsletter this week, cathe talks about biceps /curl moves. I always use an easy curl bar because my joints do not allow me to raise anything with my hands flat, they are always tipped upward so everything is angled. I have the biggest issue with preacher curls, because once my elbows are jammed into something my hands tip outward way too much to do much. so we are all hooked together differently.

Valerie, my surgeon that took care of my knee said that he loved to run. He had to stop because it was causing knee problems. He told me to be careful and cross train. Not do the same type of workouts all of the time. I know body mechanics are different for all of us. It is the angle of my elbows that I have to watch with curls. My hands are flat though. I can do plie jacks just fine, but when it comes to the air jacks, landing does not feel good. I can do them on my rebounder though. On the floor I cannot go really wide and quite often just do air jumps without the legs flying out. I used to have no problem with those things. My knees do not like anything that has them twisting at much of an angle. I have to be very careful of that. Body Beast uses an easy curl bar for pretty much everything barbell. I found it a bit uncomfortable on the curls. I guess because I am used to the regular bar.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was the SB challenge which was Barre Hiit Circuit, 39m / 225 cal. This was my only workout. Had a great night's sleep last night. Nilla settled in and did so all night. Yeah! When I got home I hooked the sprinkler up and GiGi had one heck of a time! She had a blast and so did we watching her.

Judy...I looked up ther Live Triset Legs and it looks great. Not sure if I ever did that one. She has so many now when I look back at older ones (like triset legs) they look brand new to me. I guess that is a good thing!

Deb...glad you had a good time and the trials and way to go Kylee!!! Congrats!

Carolyn...I thought Cathe's June rotation looked really great. I took a screen shot to remind myself of it. Body By Simone dance routines have a lot of impact. I am enjoying my brief break from them. I will be starting up with the same rotation on Monday. This time though I am going to sub in some of their Tramp workouts for the Dance ones. Some days I just do not want all the impact. That is so great you have been getting together for 17 years. Very nice.

Valerie...that was a great ride. Love that you two just hopped right back into your workouts! I had to stop running completely. Not that I was a huge runner but I did enjoy on my TM from time to time.

Diane Sue...I read an article today about how inaccurate HR monitors are. They said the Apple watch is the least inaccurate. Not sure if that is encouraging! But they did say they are good to gauge your progress so that is a good thing. Either way it completely motivates me so this is good enough for me.

Have a great night all!

Good Morning,

Yesterday I did S&S PHA Training. My favorite from the S&S series. I had about 2 hours of sleep last night...not sure why.

Diane Sue, I have never seen a Jari Love workout...they sound tough! what do you have going on this week?

Carolyn, your group sounds really good. I watched a lot of the first Live Senior Fit class and thought it was really good. Cathe does an excellent job keeping them motivated and moving. Definitely something to look to in the future.

Valerie, do you do any bicep work with dumbbells? I can do all curls with DB's or a BB, except like you mentioned, have trouble with preacher curls. My elbows don't bend right or something. With all the hiking and riding you do, you have leg work down that's for sure!

Lori, glad that Nilla slept well and let you sleep! You should film Gigi with the sprinkler and post it. Agree, HRM's are probably not that accurate, but give you a gauge that allows you to see improvement etc.

Class with Kylee this morning. Hopefully a nap when I get home...

Take care,

I did High Reps again , upper body and abs. I like the ab section a lot . We are riding tomorrow and hiking wed so only did the overall warmup And skipped legs. . It's funny because I am a much better rider , mountain and road, than when I was younger. DH is bow legged and has had knee issues and yes , more variety and less impact is what was recommended by his doc also. We want to be able to hike forever so don't run much anymore. Knee replacement is better than it used to be but nothing beats original equipment
It's similar, like the arm position thing. Preacher curls with elbows locked in place are awkward for me. I run thru them quickly without pushing the weight level. I do most curls with dumbells but when I use a barbell, it's an easy curl . We only own easy curl bars.
It's funny because I have uncomplaining triceps that train well and don't get sore. Again, some individual alignment makes tricep work easier for me. I can match or exceed Cathe on tricep work but my wrist area gets troublesome as I can't get my hands flat on the ground anymore so I do dips off a bench.

Deb, when I do preachers, my elbows slant inward from shoulder to elbow, and then my hands and wrists angle outward. it looks ridiculous but that's the only way I can position them. I should just sub another kind of curl and skip them entirely. I still get benefits from cathe's leg work, but if I do a couple hours of riding or hiking, I want a break.

Good Morning,
Today I did PHA Training. Loved it and my body feels great afterwards. This is my second favorite from the series because Ramped Up Upper Body is my favorite.

Diane Sue, I really enjoyed doing the Jari workouts. In the past I worried about losing my strength gains by switching to lighter weights and high reps. My experience however has been just the opposite. For me the different types of workouts balance each other.

Valerie, it is hard for me to do bicep curls with even moderate weight on a barbell. My joints don't want to hold my hands in the position that the barbell requires. I have never used an EZ Curl bar. I always do my bicep curls with dumbbells.

Lori, I have also read that none of the trackers are accurate and I think we have experienced that. However, it gives me a gauge for judging my fitness level and changes. My thoughts are that it is the same inaccuracy everyday :).

Deb, the Senior Fit workout would be good for times when I don't feel like doing much. I liked the balance exercises that she included.

Hi to Judy and Caitlin.

maybe our physiology is not so odd after all. this is not age related. Carolyn the angled grip of an EZ curl bar make it more comfortable to lift. I noticed it immediately, never bought a straight bar. the High rep workout uses a bar with light weight. many reps, lots of partials. different from dumbbells. high Reps uses dumbbells and a band too. I like the variety. my bar weighs about 15 lbs plus two 5 lb plates. you can get 2.5 lb plates so it is not as adjustable as dumbbells. we have a lot of plates since DH uses heavier than I do.

Deb...I just happen to sign on and noticed your post Here is a quick video of when she was first introduced to it. I need to get one with her jumping all over it. I was throwing her ball through it so could not film that! I put that outdoor carpet down so she would not get muddy. :)

Here are a few pictures I took this weekend. She is so photogenic!! :)
