Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B: 6/1

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41:40). Love the way this one just flies by.

Deb, I see you are getting in all of those vacation days. Good for you! Is it just Keegan, or are you also entering Kylee? I hate all air freshener things. They make me nauseous. Pet peeve: people who douse themselves in fragrance and come to crowded theaters. There are some real offenders at Jacob's Pillow, and some perfumes really make me ill.

Doctor's assistant reviewed my legs, and they really look pretty good, but he would like one more sclerotherapy session just to "clean everything up." I tolerate this very well, so I say, fine. Not until July though.

Judy, DH's parents are whittling down their possessions very carefully. He is 89, and she's 84, but they are both very sharp and just want to unburden themselves of a lot of old stuff. I'm glad they are doing this because DH would be the primary cleaner. He is definitely the one they most rely on, especially now that their one daughter is gone.

Lori, we are getting some very gentle rain today, and it sounds like the upcoming weekend will be summery and gorgeous. Yay!

Josie, more pics?

Anybody rooting for California Chrome this Saturday??

Good evening ladies!

This morning was ruthless core and flex. No workout tonight. Worked late and need to pack. Leaving with DS for Universal Studios in orlando tomorrow. Staying at the Portofino at the park. Going for a site visit for my company and I extended it for the weekend. This is the fun part of my job. My DS comes to keep me company and of course for a free trip to Universal!

Lynda...a nice weekend here in NE yet I won't be here. Oh well...I'll be enjoying warm weather just elsewhere.

Deb...I do not like air fresheners in cars at all. Hate all those christmas trees pine smelling things. I think those are the worst!

Hi to Judy, Valerie and Josie!!!

Hi Ladies,

The ride is going well. Tomorrow we are leaving Lompoc to Ventura and its a 98 mile ride.
I just sent Deb a whole bunch of pictures. The first two days were very hectic and all I wanted
To do is sleep. I will send more pictures from tomorrow's ride.

Good night.

Josie

Good morning and Happy Friday!

I am off today, going to the agility trial. I sure hope Keegan cooperates, otherwise it may not be too much fun. Little devil that he is.

Lynda, I'm with you on the perfume etc. Lots of people are sensitive to it now. We actually have a "fragrance free" work area at my office where people sit that cannot be near people that wear perfumes. Cudos to your in-laws and how they are thinking ahead about their possessions. I need to start doing that. We have way too much STUFF...I hope California Chrome wins, but have not actually watched or followed too closely.

Lori, have a great trip! So nice that your DS is going along.

Josie, you are doing great! Will post pics below.

Hi to Judy & Valerie,

Take care,

Hi everyone..back from our short trip. we got in some lovely mountain biking and a couple of hikes. some birdwatching too. camping was very pleasant... not many people out and about, although weather was lovely..... except for campgrounds at lakes. there are rules (IMO) for good camping and those involve never ever staying at a lake campground especially after fishing season opens. the first night we stayed at an obscure forest service lake campground and were the only ones there...now that is OK. We saw a pair of wood ducks...they are so colorful... almost looks like mother nature made a mistake. and beavers and a beaver lodge. these were very visible, swimming around and slapping their tails on the water.....so cute. we started a ride but the trail started OK but then got too hard so we ditched the bikes and walked it instead. this was a new area for us and though it was pleasant, we like other areas better. it is all "range" area. that means they graze cattle there. the hiking guide book made it sound like it was a wildlife paradise but that was a bunch of crap, as in cow flops. nothing but cows.... even if not visible, their past presence is evident. I will mt bike in cow country, but prefer not to hike.
we investigated a couple new areas for mt biking and one area was pretty good, the other not great. that's they only way to find out. we're intermediate riders, way beyond beginner, but probably will never reach advanced status. one trail started easy but then got too hard, a second one started hard but then became easy. we then drove back to an area closer to home and rode an absolutely lovely forest trail.

Judy that must be difficult... I think people just get tired and can't decide what to do with 'stuff" and it's easiest to just stow it somewhere. and once stowed, it's a lot of work to haul it back out and get rid of it. my mothers house is like that. we just went thru that with DH's parents home. they weren't hoarders but garage/closets, spare rooms... stuffed.

their house just went on the market and it looks amazingly good in the pics once all the junk was hauled away. both were sick at home for a long time and junk accumulated. my mothers house... I don't even want to think about it. pretty much will be up to my brother and his wife. will hear more about her today but I think it's "iffy" that she will improve enough to go home even briefly. I'm OK with that.

I can see only the last set of pics from Josie's trip.. the first ones don't show. am I doing something wrong? Strong work Josie... that is a lot of mileage. so cool to see that sea of identical tents!

Deb, it's sad but car bashing is very common. people sometimes empty their cars out, leave them unlocked at trailheads with a note on the window announcing it... but still windows get broken out by thieves who don't bother to read and use the door. It's just a risk of doing the activity. we've been broken into probably 3-4 times over the years, once they got an old chain saw.... but the big loss is car damage. the parking lot in town for the bike rides could easily set up some security cameras but it would cost $$. I'd pay for it in a heartbeat. never hear what happened, just piles of window glass on the asphalt. punk meth head tweakers and heroin addicts.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Supercuts (45:55) and last night took Max for a 3 mile walk.

Great pics, Josie! What an accomplishment!

Deb, that's a great idea! I wish they had a warning at Jacob's Pillow about fragrance, because a lot of people think they smell great and because it's summer, and the Ted Shawn theater is not air-conditioned (just enormous overhead fans), it can get really warm and stuffy with all that perfume. Ugh! I hope Keegan does you proud.

Lori, have fun at Universal! Are you going on rides?

Welcome back, Valerie. Sounds like a lot of fruitful exploration. Gosh, heroin is really becoming a big problem around here, too. Apparently it's cheap compared to oxycontin, so people switch from an addiction to painkillers to heroin.

Hi to Judy!

Heroin is cheaper than marijuana around here. heroin is the "new" meth. people break into cars to get anything to buy their fix. so tedious... if it's not one drug, then it's another.

I threw away all my perfume 20 years ago. I suddenly could not stand the smell of any of it, on me or anyone else. same with DH's shaving lotions. I only buy unscented things now... wish others did the same. some people haven't a clue how much the smell carries. I can actually taste it when it's in the air.... and it doesn't make me happy!

ETA we watched a very good movie last night.. think it was an HBO production... called "Temple Grandin". fascinating and unique. Clair Danes is terrific in it. I recommend..

Good morning,

Well I'm pretty sure we didn't qualify yesterday at the trial. Keegan was being a putz at first, then all of a sudden he gets into gear and does fantastic for the last 2/3 of the course. I didn't stay for the score sheets to be posted, not sure why. I guess I just wanted to get out of there. Today is another day! We'll try again.

Valerie, your trip sounds great! I wonder if we have all become more sensitive to odors etc since more people have stopped smoking and it is illegal in buildings etc? I remember working with smokers all around me and it didn't bother me at all. Now I can smell it if it is 5 feet away and outside!

Lynda, They say that people that wear perfume etc become so de-sensitized to it that they keep adding more because they can no longer smell it. I wonder if someone reminded the management of people's sensitivity and the closed in space if they would put something in the playbook or a sign up etc.

Hi to Lori, Judy & Josie,

Wish me luck today!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

Housemax for me this morning, garden weeding this afternoon.

Josie, thank you so much for sending on that little video to my ipad. I am sending it on to bil and my dh watched it. You're a sweetie.

Deb, I think I will try to contact Ella Baff, the director at Jacob's Pillow, and ask her about this. I can't believe how much second-hand smoke there was in the old days--even in the classrooms. There were even smoking loges in movie theaters.

Enjoy the rest of the beautiful weekend!

I think we all have gotten more sensitive to smoke and perfume because we don't have to breathe it all the time like in the past. people used to be able to smoke everywhere. I remember going to visit someone in the hospital and lighting up in his room! I used to smoke when I was young and stupid... but almost everyone smoked. doesn't make it right but people smoked freely in stores, malls, hospitals, restaurants, and yes, even movie theaters, airplanes. a "no smoking" area was almost unheard of.
this is my main gripe about camping...wood smoke is just as bad and irritating as tobacco smoke and I've only stayed in one campground that separated people who wanted fires from those that didn't.
Lynda, I'll bet plenty of people will side with you if you speak up.
we did a 30 mile ride yesterday. taking today off.

Good afternoon from sunny and hot Florida!

Loving the heat. The heat is not loving my hair though! Having a great time. Yesterday was all work. Today is fun in the parks. I do not going on the fast moving rides or the virtual ones. I take a motion sickness pill before I leave the hotel but still need to be careful. I can do the water rides and a few others but that is pretty much it. I still feel like I experience everything though. At universal they have rooms called Child Swap. Not sure if you know of these as I did not. These rooms allows me to be in line with my DS up until he actually gets in the cart. Then I go off to this room, he does the ride and then gets off at this Child Swap room. It is more for if i had a small child then dad would go on ride then we would meet then mom goes on the ride without having to wait all over again in line. What is neat is while going thru the line I can experience all the things going on instead of sitting somwhere in the heat waiting alone for him to exit.

Valerie...welcome back. Never thought about people that would not like the smell of wood burning. Makes complete sense.

Deb...sounds like Keegan just needed to warm up a bit!

Ok...need to run...DS is ready to go!

Have a great night all!!!!!
