Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 6/04/2023

Today is a rest day. I will do 2.0 Tri sets tomorrow. I looked at my calendar and my eye appointment is not tomorrow. It is Tuesday which works out well for me.

This morning I did Morning Energy Yoga for 18 minutes.

Judy, thanks for starting the thread this week.

Diane Sue, enjoy your rest day.

Cathy, you are off to a good start with the new rotation. Great job.

Valerie, I hope that your drive is going well.

This morning I did STS 2.0 Giant Sets Total Body. My time was 58 minutes with 311 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 152. I need to decide how these total body workouts will fit into my workout schedule and available time. I don’t usually do strength on Wednesday morning but I will figure it out.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

our drive went fine but long. 11.5 hours. took the camper this time, and it needs more gas fill ups and doesn't go as fast as a car. but all ok. lovely here. we just did the annual spray of the driveway for weeds. serious weeds here that need to be knocked down before they get woody. wish we didnt have to do it but this is WAY beyond hand pulling that doesnt work anyway. even small, deep roots. probably loafing around today in recovery mode.

This morning I did the Metabolic Core and Mat Yoga workouts. I really like the length of the recovery workouts. Then I went to the zoo and walked. The day camps start next week, so the school trips should be ending. Way less schools doing trips than there used to be. Only 7 buses today, years ago there would be 15-20. I entertain myself by pointing things out to people, providing info. They really should pay me. Also, listening to comments that make it clear the person has no knowledge of what they're talking about. My favorites are when there is literally a sign in front of them telling them the correct info. I did get up and do my first round of Africa before I saw anyone but staff, and second round wasn't many, but I could hear them coming.

Valerie I'm glad your drive went well.

Carolyn great job with the yoga and Giant Sets Total Body.

Diane Sue I'm doing the Tri Sets workout tomorrow. Curious to see how it differs. I'm certainly feeling a number of areas after doing Super Sets yesterday.

Today I did STS 2.0 Total Body Tri-sets 68 minutes, heart rate 98/119, 178 calories. I followed it with 2.0 Total Body Stretch, 24 minutes, 31 calories. Total time was 92 minutes, 209 calories. I don't think I would have had energy to do cardio after all of that.

Cathy, each workout was different. I was glad tri sets was each tri-set 2 times. My arms were done with the little rest as it just goes from exercise to exercise and this was the last upper body exercise group. It was a struggle the last tri-set. You would think there would be more people at the zoo as summer starts up. Although I think a lot more people are taking advantage of some travel.

Valerie, it takes work to control those kinds of weeds. Even if round up type stuff is used it just kind of makes them dormant and they come back.

Carolyn, nice work on 2.0 Giant sets total body. I will be doing that one again Wednesday. I need to look at the upper and lower body workouts. Upper looks like a lot of pull up chin up stuff. I want to see what kind of substitutions there are in that. On the second set of trisets extensions overhead today Cathe mentions that Al could do kickbacks instead. Next time as I can go heavier and not bother my shoulder and upper arm. I think if I need an extra day between workouts I may just space them out longer. So far I have not done that though, but I know it will probably happen.

I spent a lot of time today trying to troubleshoot my tablet. I think it is just broke. I looked up things online and have turned it off and on. Actually if shut down it won't start up with just the start button, I have to push the down button and the power on. The apps are there and some work, but no internet. It just will not even try to get on the internet. Instead of wifi on blue it turns to a grey blue and then shuts it back off.
I need to go to bed as I have the eye appointment for field vision in the morning.

actually round up works on these weeds. we spray once, after most are up and exposed to the spray. hand pulling can unearth more seeds and generate another crop of weeds. we spray the driveway when the weeds are young and green. even then you can't pull them out. they break at the stem and regrow. same thing happens with cutting them down. we spray once every year and the quantity is way down over a few years ago. these are russian thistle(not the spiny one with pink flowers)that go on to form tumble weeds. plants dry out and break off and make big balls that blow in the wind. when dry they are a fire hazard so you cant drive a hot vehicle over them. also cheat grass. and assorted others. we spray in early june with a vehicle and a pull behind sprayer. it takes a few hours. these are not native plants but are invasive weeds that settle in disturbed ground. mostly done with it for the year. this is about 1/4 of a mile distance.

I did stacked upper body again yesterday. I used the same weights cathe uses and done extra reps so time to increase weight on some exercises. also therapy work. I dont have a lot of equipment here so this workout is best.

I just finished STS 2 Tri Sets Total Body and I'm wiped for the day. I got about 3 hours sleep last night, but I was determined not to get off the rotation. Derek and I are going to the Detroit Zoo tomorrow, so that's not an option. I did it, though I had to drop down my weights on some second sets. I don't know if that was energy or reality, but I'll find out next week when I do it again.

Diane Sue great job with the Tri Sets workout. Zoos are really busy on weekends during the summer, weekdays aren't as bad, except Fort Wayne which is never not really busy. LOL May and early June here you get school trips on weekdays. Sorry to hear about the issues with your tablet, always a pain when that happens.

This morning I started with JS One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes and 117 calories burned. Average heart rate 138 and maximum heart rate 150. Then I did STS 2.0 Standing Abs Core Plus Floor which was 16 minutes, 68 calories, 115 average heart rate and 133 maximum heart rate. I finished with Active Recovery which was 12 minutes and 68 calories burned. I didn’t care for Active Recovery. There was a lot of up and down and several movements that I had to modify because of my knees. I’ll try it again next week to see if I feel the same before I give up on it.

Cathy, great job with STS 2.0 Metabolic Core, Mat Yoga, and Trisets Total Body. I’m very impressed that you did the total body after only 3 hours of sleep!

Diane Sue, great job with Trisets Total Body and Total Body Stretch. I’m sorry about your tablet. It doesn’t seem like you have had it very long.

Valerie, glad that you had a good drive. Nice work with Stacked Sets Upper Body and therapy exercises.

Hello to Judy.

Today I had my eye appointment and then came home and did STS 2.0 Standing Abs Metabolic Warm Up + Core plus floor, 27 minutes(actual 25 but I forgot to stop my watch), 108 calories, heart rate 113/162. This uses a 5 and 10# weight plate. Mostly the 10#. I then did 2.0 Active Recovery, 11 minutes, 12 calories. That is it for the day. shoulders and upper back are kind of sore today. I woke up with a headache.

we mt biked this morning, first exercise here at altitude. about 6000 feet. oh boy it makes a difference. about 6 miles.

we are having a computer issue going on for a while. not sure how to describe it but an email problem. I have people I regularly exchange email with. not together in the same address line. totally completely separate emails. we find occasionally the system adds a name out of the blue to the address line although the messages dont seem to get miss-sent. so if I send a message to "linda" and a different message to "ruth" later or the next day after "linda" answers me, it adds "Ruth" to the line, so it shows up as from "Linda and Ruth". looking in sent messages, it goes to the right address but is this weird? Linda and ruth dont know each other, I would never have reason to send the same email together to both. it shows up on the newer iphone. this does not involve "reply all".
I have other friend groups I send messages to all 3 at a time. sometimes the messages get messed up if only one person answers. so I usually start a new thread. im not sure how to phrase the question to a tech person or even on google. we use Outlook and have been annoyed with it but changing email after a long time is challenging. any ideas? is there a term for this?

My husband ordered me a new tablet today. It will be here tomorrow sometime. I have spent way too much time trying to fix the one I have. No internet and a message that flicks on and off so fast at the bottom of the screen that I do not have a chance to read it. I cleared the cache from the internet app. Then it spun when trying to open the internet and it eventually stopped.
Valerie, nice that you got a ride in this morning. My e-mail that comes with the Microsoft edge package puts groups of emails together. I don't use it because it also will not let me open up some of the websites that have sent me e-mails. I hope that you can get it straightened out. I just use my old email account and mainly on my phone or tablet because on the computer I have to go through extra process to open my email. That is good that you can control those weeds. They do sound like a hazard.

Cathy, way to go doing Tri sets total body with little sleep. I was feeling pretty fatigued by the end of that workout. I think because there is little rest other than between the exercises themselves and then I was setting up for the next group. I am back to Giant sets tomorrow. It should go more smoothly than on day one. Enjoy the zoo tomorrow.

Carolyn, nice workout choices today. I was surprised at my heart rate and calorie burn on that ab workout. I thought I would do better with active recovery this time, but some of the movements was still not comfortable for how quickly they move. I just was not getting my balance in there when moving or something.

Today I decided to stick with my short cardio workout and I will do Supersets Total Body tomorrow. I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, for 26 minutes and 165 calories burned. My average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Diane Sue, we did the same workout yesterday. Nice job. Both of the recovery workouts gave me a nice calorie burn. Your Ab workout looks about right to me, but Active Recovery seems too low. I’m going to see what I think about Active Recovery after I try it a second time. It’s great that your husband ordered a new tablet for you.

Valerie, good job with the mountain biking at the higher altitude. I have never used Outlook email so I have no insight. I hope that you can get it sorted out. Changing email programs is a big headache.

Waving hello to Cathy and Judy.

Today I did STS 2.0 Tri Sets Total Body. I had to drop my weights down as I’m still recovering from the last 4 days of work. Yesterday was my 4th day in a row of working 8 hours at HD. My fault for not scheduling more days off. I won't make that mistake again, but it definitely interfered with my workout schedule. I did the STS 2.0 Foam Rolling workouts twice over the weekend and they really helped me feel better after working so much.

Carolyn-Great job with Morning Energy Yoga, STS 2.0 Giant Sets Total Body, JS One Mile of Motivation and Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. I need to figure out to best use the STS total body workouts too. I’m not sure that I can do 3 heavy total body workouts in one week, even without working at HD.

Valerie-It’s good that your drive went well. We sell so much Round Up and Ortho weed killer at HD. They go through pallets of it. I’m sorry about your outlook/email issue. I haven’t seen that happen so far, but I’ve had other issues with outlook. There are some emails that get sent to my junk/spam folder that are not junk They are from email addresses that are in my contacts and are set up as “not junk or spam” but they still go there. Outlook has some quirks that don’t seem to be correctable.

Cathy-Great job with Metabolic Core and Mat Yoga and STS 2 Tri Sets Total Body. That is rough to workout on only 3 hours of sleep. I hope you and Derek are having a great day at the Detroit Zoo.

Diane Sue-Great job with STS 2.0 Total Body Tri-sets and Total Body Stretch, Standing Abs Metabolic Warm Up + Core plus floor and Active Recovery, Nice that you are getting a new tablet. I bet this one will work a lot better for you.

we mt biked again today. more like 6500 feet. easier and longer with lots of nice scenery so we didn't go that fast. in the park. one of the few spots you can mt bike and pretty nice depending on what you're looking for. lots of flowers but not many animals. elk and pronghorns should be having their young soon so they arent as visible. eventually trail goes to a falls, but its a serious drop down to a trail to the falls. we would need to push the bikes back up the hill after and the trail is closed right now anyway. we rode to where it starts to drop, about 3.5 miles and stopped there. lots of flowers and beautiful morning and not busy at all considering its a trail to nowhere now. its tourist season now for sure and busy as hell. we dont spend much time in the park in summer

thanks for your thoughts on outlook. at one point I had a gmail account but DH didnt want it so we deleted it. the longer the passed time, the harder it is to switch. we have not done it but thi is getting awfully weird. the other issue might be us mixing apple and microsoft devices. its strange seeing email titles get tweaked like that. yes, weve had contacts from our list end up in junk too.

Judy I absolutely hate using roundup but with this much area and these incredibly prolific(!!) weeds there are few choices. tumbleweeds are impossible to dig out, pull up, or cut down. they root deeply and get woody quickly. the whole western US is filled with them. any disturbed ground is potentially a tumbleweed site. our driveway is long steep and narrow and is not drivable if filled with weeds. they are like a shrub in 2 months.

This morning I did the mini ball core workout and Active Recovery. I hadn't preview that one at all, and it's unlike anything she's done before. Not sure how I feel about it, it's definitely active and a couple things really feel like hiit segments. The zoo visit was fun. We chose today, because it just worked with our schedules and turned out to be Senior Day. So I got in free and when I started to tell her Derek had a membership at another zoo, all she heard was that he had a membership and just waved us in, they weren't checking ID's at all! LOL Since we took food with us, all it cost us was gas. Construction was pretty crazy though as there was a really long stretch of about 30 miles with no breaks. I told Derek though that I wasn't that unhappy about it since the speeds were so low and it was actually nice compared to the usual crazy with people flying and zipping in and out of lanes. Definitely looks like a multi year project. Shopping tomorrow.

It's late and my brain is fried, so I'm not going to comment on anything tonight. I'll try and get back to it tomorrow.

Today I did STS 2.0 Supersets Total Body and boy do I feel it! I used heavier weights than I normally do for many of the exercises. My time was 67 minutes with 319 calories burned. My average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate was 148.

Judy, great job with STS 2.0 Trisets Total Body and the foam roller workouts. You’ve had a hard week with that heavy work schedule.

Valerie, nice job with the mountain biking.

Cathy, nice job with the Mini Ball Abs and Active Recovery. I understand completely what you said about Active Recovery.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Rest day today and I am totally good with that. Still feeling my workout from two days ago. LOL I've decided my oldest is insane. He's very much over scheduled. Got an Airbnb until he can get into a house with friends in August, but misremembered when he has to be out of his apartment by a day, so now he'll be living in his car and crashing with friends for a couple days and the day he can get into the Airbnb, he's got other things going on. I'm a planner and like all my t's crossed and I's dotted and I can't even fathom it.

Carolyn great job with Supersets Total Body.
