Happy Mother's Day!

Leaving tomorrow morning early for DC, back late Tuesday night, then I have to be in Canada early Wednesday morning so I may not be back here until Thursday.

Garance, I did try a Mint Julep, OMG , I took a couple of sips and could not drink the rest. The party was fun, we had a big screen TV outside, to watch the race after we ate BBQ, etc. You got 2 free tickets for betting when you got there, then they were 2 for $1 for any extra you wanted. We bet on 4 horses and DH's won! Split the winnings 5 ways. It was a lot of fun.

Have a good week all,

I've never had a mint julep either, but I don't like bourbon and am so-so on mint so probably not a winner for me either. I used to like scotch but have turned into a white wine person.
this will be a slow thread this week.. I will be gone tues, wed, and maybe back thurs if all works Ok. our travel plans are awful. ridiculous price. no car rental because the flight gets in late and nobody will agree to stay til the flight gets in. I have a headache thinking about wed. we will maybe sleep a couple hours, spend all day in the funeral deal, and then grab a couple hours before we head back for a 6 am flight.

Did disk 19 yesterday and will try to do 20 today, along with a little treadmill time. my workouts have taken second place lately.

Never watched a horse race either, except in movies. I'm not a betting person, I hate to lose money and am generally unlucky in games of chance.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and any later posters--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

Had a nice dinner with dh and ds last night. Arctic char and a mango trifle for dessert. Very yummy. I watched the Kentucky Derby before we left. I would probably have placed a bet on Mucho Macho Man after they did a pre-race feature on the woman trainer. The 'favorite' Dialed In was shown in closeup getting tons of dirt in his face, so it was clear he was never going to catch up, because he kept turning his head up and back. Poor thing!
Ds did something called a Tough Mudder yesterday at Mt. Snow. An absolutely mind-boggling obstacle course with a 'team' slogging up the side of a mountain, leaping into icy ponds and pulling on a rope to get to dry land, running through mud, etc. He's in very good shape but it sounded horrendous. He took me to the movies this afternoon--a heist film with Vin Diesel. Totally preposterous but well done. So I had a great weekend overall.

Don't envy your plane trip, Valerie. What are you going to do when you get there--stay in the airport until the rental cars open up?

I will try to keep the thread alive with my efforts while you world travelers are up and away.

we can try to talk to the mgr who DH talked to last week. he agreed to keep someone there late for us. they stay late if a reg flight is delayed but this is scheduled to land at midnight and they close at 11. I imagine if the mgr says to do it, someone will. if the mgr is unavailable or won't go for the deal, then we can lean on a family person to pick us up at midnight & take us to our hotel, or call a cab. and then early we'd have to go back to the airport and get a rental car. then scream back to the hotel to get to where we need to be picked up for the funeral business. the next morning we need to be at the airport before 5 am so we would rather not count on a cab. I swear, I will never do this again. DH should have taken a day off work and made it less painful, but he didn't want to cancel a full day worth of people. oh well...more tomorrow.

doing my best to keep us on page 1. I did disk 20 legs yesterday and the ab part of high reps. I am really trying not to go more than a week between leg workouts.

we're hoping to get in a bike ride today if the weather clears a little.

the mountains (here) got up to 147 inches of snow in April alone. and usually when it was snowing up there it was raining down here. one of the coldest wettest springs on record. Lynda, we have a competition here in spring called the slush cup that sounds like what your son was doing. it's a relay team event I think.

don't think I've tried arctic char before.. it's a salmon-like fish isn't it? Love mangos... working my way thru a six pack of honey mangos right now. love them!

Lynda... we rented "the Kings Speech" and were watching it saturday night when the disk tanked. haven't had that happen in a while. probably half way through but it was quite good, the part we saw. we pulled the disk, cleaned it and restarted it but no luck.

Hi Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's TLC--both workouts (60 min.).

Valerie, I definitely thought the King's Speech was the best film at Oscar time. Geoffrey Rush was as fine as Christian Bale, but Bale had the showier performance, I guess. Those travel arrangements sound like a nightmare. We're going first class in September to the wedding, because of all the miles we decided to use up. Looking forward to that! I think I heard that the Cascades had a late winter storm. Today is beautiful here, and it sounds like the whole week will be good. We deserve every ray of sun IMO. I don't know if the Tough Mudder is a relay--I will ask ds. It sounded like an absolute free-for-all. DS threw out everything he was wearing after it was over. The worst for me would be the 20 foot jump into a freezing pond. I think my heart would seize. Sounded too much like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Unless Josie and Joan show up, I guess I will be talking to myself. So I said to myself, I said......

Hi Ladies,

I'm still alive! I have been very busy with closeouts. I had a great Mother's day and today I'm celebrating Mexican Mother's Day.

All I did over the weekend was eat, it started Friday and I did not get a chance to workout. I did workout yesterday and plan on going spinning tonight.

Garance, there is a race in Oceanside’s Camp Pendleton called the Muddy Buddies and it sounds similar to what you DS did. It is a lot of fun and messy. But I loved it!
I also loved the Kings Speech.

Valerie, your trip sounds terrible.

Hi to Joan, Cathy and Deb.

Josie

Hi Josie and any later posters--

This morning I did KCM's Split Sessions, both upper and lower body (60 min.).

Valerie, I forgot--yes, Arctic Char definitely tastes like salmon. Hope your trip does not end up being glitched up with dead time.

Sheesh, Josie, two Mother's Days! What did you get? Flowers and spa gift cards and a matinee movie and dinner.

Just glad I'm not talking to myself.

Not quite talking to yourself yet lynda... I pretty much got things ready. when I left for yoga this morning must have been a wreck on the interstate that pretty much closed it down. I called DH to tell him to head the back route, but it was too late, it was totally gridlocked too. my trip to yoga was fine ...other direction... but his was very tough. the surface streets can't handle it when the interstate is closed. not a good way to start the day.

yoga was good. love this class. yesterday we did a bike ride, 25 miles around 2 hours but I forgot to time it. cloudy and drizzled a bit but not too bad. today is finally going to be sunny. great.. a work day.

wow, 2 MD celebrations. you will need another 100 miler to control the damage!

I think the race here is different. I think it's a relay team race from somewhere high on Mt Baker so skis first, then bikes, then a foot race. all the way to salt water. I thought there was one with loads of mud puddles but maybe I'm thinking of the wrong one. this one is called the slush cup.

We got a rental car! we have the name of the guy who will be staying late for us, bet he won't be happy. think I will slip him a $20 to cheer him up a little. I have no idea if rental agents can accept tips... probably not... so I'll try to be subtle.

Our flight leaves at 9:15 tonight. I feel like killing DH for getting us into this situation.

still didn't get the replacement movie. geoffrey rush is always good, as is helena bonhom carter. so versatile, they don't get enough credit. I didn't like a single thing about "the fighter", so I know this movie will be better.

Hi Valerie and Josie--

This morning I did Dancetonic (60 min.).

Final student presentations this afternoon. One more class on Friday, then the semester is essentially over except for the grading.

Finally enjoying the weather here--mild for a few days, anyway. I hope it's nice next week. An old friend from San Diego is coming for a visit.

I quite liked The Fighter, Valerie. I thought the performances were stellar, and even though I don't like boxing, it certainly is a tough sport. My older son was a wrestler in prep school, and I would just scrunch myself up watching him. Absolute torture. He was excellent, but largely because he was so strong. He ended up on the track team, though, in college and ran the 400 and 800 meter.

Sounds like your trip will be much, much better now that you have that car rental.

Good morning all,

A grueling trip to DC, back late Tuesday night, then to Whitby Ontario yesterday, 300 mile round trip for a client meeting. I am exhausted and cannot wait until the weekend so I can get some rest.

Valerie, I hope your trip is ok, getting the car etc.

Sounds like everyone is doing well, "spring" has finally sprung here, beautiful 75 degrees and sunny. Love it!

Take care, will check back later tonight.

Welcome back, Deb!

This morning I did Skinny Sculpt (46 min.).

That does sound like a challenging itinerary! What's really weird is when people find out I'm retiring, the first thing they say is, "Oh, now you will have time to travel and see the world!" But I don't much like traveling. Planes are increasingly a hassle, I am prone to seasickness, and once I get some place far away, I can't sleep from jet lag.

Beautiful here this afternoon, but I have conferences with students who have procrastinated on their final papers and now need to confer with me. This always happens and I'm tired of it. When I retire, I won't have to stay in on a sunny afternoon listening to my students mourn over their wasted time.

Enough complaining here.

P.S. Deb, I'm ready for more essential-C if you find some on ebay and have the time to look. I didn't use it that much over the winter because my skin seemed so dry, but now it feels good again.

I'm back, got in early this morning. have barely had any sleep in 4 days though. ridiculous hours, I have major trouble sleeping in motels. too warm, air conditioning is too loud, I'm restless, and got over tired. should have taken some meds but I didn't want to because I tried monday night and they made it worse. the rental car turned out to be no big deal at all. our flight was early, the agent was delightful and only had to stay maybe an extra half hour.

the funeral... holy cow. never saw anything like it. a BIG production. and we were only there for one day of the 2 days. 2 limos to transport immediate family, rent-a-cops for the motorcade and on and on. they spent a LOT of money on this. we were sort of stunned.

I swear, travel is the most debilitating thing you can do to yourself. Lynda, I agree about the motion sickness, jet lag, sleep problems, food problems, no exercise. It's not worth it to me. I used to travel a huge amount for business but it's not the same anymore. I enjoy driving places in our camper, but plane travel, have grown to HATE it. then we allowed too much time and ended up sitting and waiting, but driving traffic is so unpredictable between us and the airport. no lines for security at all. none. really, we were thru security in probably under 5 minutes TOTAL for 2 plane trips. at Seatac, which is a busy airport, there were 2 people in front of us!
Deb, sounds like you travel pretty often, how do you manage it? or do you just live with being tired?
I will say the new scanners are no big deal and seem to work way faster and more efficiently than the older ones.

To answer the question, travelling sucks, no other way to put it. Especially when it is work travel.

Garance, I don't know if I would have the patience to grade work, etc, then listen to students that did not do their work, and whining about it. I will start the "hunt" for essential C.

Valerie, welcome back, I hear you on the hotel/motel sleeping situation. Nothing like going into a hotel room that costs $300 a night and finding out it has one of those noisey window type contraption air conditioners that turns off and on like a plane going off all night.

Plans for the weekend include a birthday party for my 80 year old uncle, and brother and sil invite for a belated birthday dinner for me. Of course the usual agility, and HouseMax. Have to finish weeding the rest of the flower bed too somewhere in there, and try to get a workout in, since I have been so lax in that area.

What is eveyone else up to?

More coffee for me right now...

wow, I feel so much better this morning. got a whole nights sleep! what a difference 8 hours makes. our motel wasn't $300 a night... just $85. it's in a residential area not near the airport or a convention center etc. it's a decent place....not a window unit but still too loud. noise is noise to me, it doesn't become background white noise . it always amazes me how expensive travel is. a bottle of water? $2.49. a cup of coffee $2.69. ripoff. anything on the far side of security is priced like it's gold plated.

I was SO sweating security since I haven't flown since getting my metal parts. I have a screw in my knee somewhere but that never triggered anything but the pacer is bigger. the old metal detectors would have set off for sure and then I have to be wanded. I have a medical device card I'd show to make sure they don't wand my pacemaker area. with the fancier xrays I can shoot right thru . the last time I flew there were 45 minute lines... this was so fast I forgot to toss my water bottle.

we will spend saturday here catching up on yard work. DH worked yesterday & today so needs to decompress. I need to get the camper organized so we can go somewhere ( if the forecast is decent) for sun, mon, tues. Had enough "family time" to last for a while.

Hi Deb and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Happy birthday, Deb! It sounds like we are in total agreement on travel. I just don't get it. I don't mind a train into NYC or the drive to the Jersey shore, but international flights like my last 2 were not fun. Getting through customs each way took forever. Of course, I also had to get a bus to and from Cambridge from London, which was about 2.5 hours.

Plans for this weekend? Hmm, not sure. I won't have any papers in yet for grading, so I feel like I should catch up on household and gardening stuff. I'm tempted to veg out, though, with a good book and gird my loins for the onslaught of papers.

Welcome back, Valerie! When we went to Boston, we stayed in a YMCA hotel near the USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides"). The room was nice with a kitchen, but ungodly warm. So DH managed to do something to get the windows open--wide open--and we turned on a fan. I felt like we were at the beach, because you could hear the sea gulls and there was the smell of the ocean. It was quiet.

Thanks, Deb, for the successful "hunt."

Hi Ladies,

No workout for me today. I will be going to lunch with one of my coworkers. I also hate to travel now. I hate the wait and the check points, it just ruins the vacation for me.

Deb, did you stop using the Supreme 90? I'm planning on following the workout program for the next 90 days and just trying to eat clean. I don't plan on following the diet plan that comes with it.

Garance, can you remind me as to what the essential C does for you.

Valerie, I'm glad that you survived your trip. I also can not sleep at hotels no matter what the rooms cost, it is still not my bed.

I do not have any specific plans for the weekend. I might go spinning and a walk on the beach. It is supposed to be in the mid 60's this weekend.

Hi Joan and Cathy!

Josie

Still can't get into exercise mode. You can tell I'm not doing anything when I don't post.

PT is still 3 times a week and mother is still not walking.

I get her breakfast sometime around 9am. We leave at 10 for the 10:30 appt and get back around noon. I get her lunch and wheel her back to her room and it's about 1. She likes to eat between 5 and 6. I put her in bed between 11 and 11:30. And I mean put. I have to lift her legs so she can get in bed.

I don't mind travel but mine is only for vacation. Dh likes to get to airport 2 hours early but I always bring several books so it's ok. I do have to bring my own pillow for hotel. I don't like noise but I use the fan or airconditioner noise to mask everything else.

Joan

Hi all & Happy Weekend!

Just got back from agility class, had a good time. Keegan was paying attention and seemed to have fun so that's what counts. My uncle's 80th birthday party tonight, I am bringing 2 relish trays. I'm trying to get a lot of things checked off of my list, so they are not all left for tomorrow.

Joan, I have not done anything for 2 weeks, I am hoping to start again tomorrow.

Josie, no, I'm not doing that 90 day program, I started using the new KCM's and like them a lot.

It's raining again, ( surprise!!), maybe it will get done and I can do more yard work tomorrow.

Have a good weekend!
