Good Morning,

Today I did Push Circuit 1, this will be the last week of the Push phase, if I can get the other 2 workouts in this week. I will be leaving for DC in a little while, back late Tuesday night.

Joan, good job on te first workout of Meso 2! This Meso was my favorite in STS. Not as frantic as Meso 1. Do you need to shower before you work out? I understand if you are going somewhere, but if you are staying in the house? Wasn't your pool inside?

Cathy, it sounds like you are feeling a lot better!

Hi to Garance, Josie, Kathy & Valerie,

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I didn't expect to be here today, we'd planned a backpack, first one in a long time, but the weather pooped out and it's cold and raining, even more than expected. so not a good time to go to the mountains.
I don't remember if I posted my friday workout, but I did disk 7 and coremax 2. wow, that is one whole lot of pushups. I find I'm getting better and am impressed with how much pushups work core. sorry if I'm getting repetitive but I don't know why I didn't notice this previously, except that it often is the limiting factor in how many I can do. I did most but not all on my toes and I am a little sore from it. tomorrow is a hike assuming th forecast is right this time.

yesterday was yardmax and housemax, windows, cleaning under and behind the frig. geez, how do things get dirty like that! and I would like to complain loudly about how refrigerator shelves don't go to the back or side walls anymore, so things easily tip and leak down the walls.
we are starting up a floor project, laundry room, hallway, bathroom. we did several rooms about 2 years ago and decided we like the surface material enough to do more, will make things look more connected. we'll do it ourselves. also will replace utility sink and maybe add shelving. we'll see how it goes. then on to the master bath. blech. it's beyond even bothering to scrub anymore, makes no difference at all.

Good afternoon,

Garance keep playing the oldies. One of the studys I have read about put a group of people in a house for a few weeks . They recreated the time of their youth. Music, food, newspapers etc and in the end tested them for age markers- blood pressure etc. They all got "younger".

Deb I guess it isn't really about being the second shower of the day I could skip the first one. Since my office is in my home I have clients dropping by. I guarantee they would show up during my shower even if no one has come by in weeks.

I'm trying to decide if I want to join the burn your fat 98 day contest. I'm not sure if there would be a noticeable difference in that amount of time. I don't care about the prize but I wondered if I would be more accountable.

Hi everyone!

I guess I missed Deb's start yesterday, so ignore my false start. I did disk 13 yesterday (65 min.) for chest, sh, tris, and I am a bit sore today. Today I did Petra Kolber's Just Dance (50 min.)

Beautiful weather for the next few days, so DH is haying, and I am trying to finish reading my exams so I can get outdoors and do some planting.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was end-of-the-semester boring. I did do some wild dancing to Exile on Main Street, though. DH thought I was hilarious. I love this CD!

Hi Ladies,

I'm so tired! I just want to do the ride now and get it over with! Everyone is at that point now, we all want to sleep late on the weekends and not worry about training any more.

I feel ready for the ride; the only thing that I'm worried about is making sure that I pack everything that I need.

Thank you all for the support during my training. I will keep you posted regarding the blog before I leave.

Josie

Good morning all,

I took the "before" pictures last night. I wanted to cry. I look 20-30lbs bigger than when I started 2 years ago (think Pillsbury dough boy). And I am the same weight! All the tightness I had obtained with the trainer is gone. I am starting from scratch. I know it is my own fault.

From now on I am taking my picture every week. How can you not see what you look like? I'm not posting picture at contest but will try to follow all of their rules. Let's hope this works.

Yesterday was 40 min on treadmill.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, Valerie, and Kathy--

This morning I did P-57 (57 min.).

Awww, ((((Joan)))), don't be so hard on yourself. You have faced a lot of challenges since I have known you, with your mom, with your dil, and with the work you do, which I am sure you love, but I recognize as stressful and soo concentrated. In addition to taking your pictures, you might write down something that you did every week that is helping you reach your goal. Positive reinforcements must be as important as self-criticism.

Josie, I continue to admire your perseverance and commitment. It's been a long haul since you decided to do this ride. I hope it's beautiful as well as tiring.

I'm done with grading, so now I have to do some planning for my summer, or else it will get frittered away. First, I think, is getting my paper ready for the Cambridge conference. Then a new syllabus for my film course. That's enough for now.

Off to get my annual mammogram this afternoon.

Hi Ladies,

I went shopping yesterday to get all of the final things for my trip. I will be spinning tonight.

Joan, don't beat yourself up, we all go through periods like this and remember you have been taking care of you DM and tax season, plus trips to Vegas. All of that has affected you. Just think about the future.

Garance, I love oldies. When I clean my house I usually listen to that and I just make me work faster.

Hi to Kathy, Cathy and Valerie and Deb.

Josie

good morning all. we got in a hike yesterday and though nice, not as we hoped. Wow, there's a lot of snow up there. we got a load of snow in april and it's soft and deep. walking is "post holing". It's been cold so we brought along microspikes thinking we'd be walking on the snow surface but alas, we sank in up to the knees on every step the last mile or so. really tough and no where near the top viewpoint, which was hopelessly optimistic and a long way away. still, a pretty day but way more work than expected. probably 6-7 miles RT but it took 6.5 hours.

Josie, hope you got all the stuff you need and have a great ride. we'll be rooting for you! I've been wearing my wrist brace at night and haven't had any hand numbness. hope it improves next ride which might be TH morning, depending on rain.

The local news paper ran a short article on a new diet book by dr nancy snyderman, the Today show MD, called 'Diet Myths That Keep Us Fat." there were two things that surprised me out of 7 thin
gs excerpted.
1. drinking green tea boosts metabolism and can help lose weight. interesting but I hate tea so much that won't work for me.
2. paraphrasing here ... a 3 month study of adults age 60-78 showed that those who lifted weights and took a daily dose of aceominophen or ibuprofen daiily got substantially greater results than those who took a placebo. the muscles of the medication users got 40-60% and their strength increased more than non users.

I am guessing(??) the dose of antiinflammatory/ pain killer meds allowed people to work harder with less discomfort? one dose of either is prretty low dose stuff and I will be loking into this further. It doesn't specifiy men, women. or mixed group.

Joan, there is hardly anyone who would look good in a picture like that. The tabloids love catching famous people in unflattering photos. people look better in clothes! Plan your work and then work your plan! You can do this.
A good time for me to exercise is 1-2 hrs before dinner, around 3-5. for one, it keeps me from snacking or testing things when I'm making dinner and I'm getting hungry. the exercise itself kills my appetite for the short term. I'm as warmed up as I'm going to get. If I watch TV while exercising there's Oprah, Cathe on FitTV, or an early newscast, substantially better choices than mid day.

Lynda, are you counting wild dancing as part of the cardio for the day? glad to hear it's good, not that the stones dop anything that isn't good.

Deb hope you had a good trip.

Good evening/morning.

I drink 3-6 cups of green tea a day. I don't think it is very helpful.

Today was disc 16.

Wednesday

Good morning,

Back from tromping on the steps of Congress in our nations's capitol. Will need to go back and read up on all the activities around here.

I got home very late last night so I am going in to work a little later today.

BB later...

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, Valerie, and Kathy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

Welcome back, Deb! How are the clowns in DC? I hope there is a special place in hell for some of them--like Dante's circles in the Inferno. You were right about Nicole winning DWTS. I still think it is not quite right to have her as an "amateur." But she was really talented. Next up: So You Think You Can Dance starts tomorrow night.

Valerie, I do count wild dancing as aerobic. It's been a little steamy around here, though--up to 90 today--and I feel more like gentle swaying than wild dancing. That was an interesting tidbit from that article about ibuprofen and acetaminophen. I read somewhere that marathon runners who take ibuprofen before a run as a prophylactic actually fared worse for perceived pain than runners who did not. Maybe it's different for weight lifting.

Joan, how's the diet going?

My Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest is on its way. Can-not wait!

Hi to Josie, Cathy, and Kathy!

Hi Ladies,

I will be spinning again tonight. Not much to report today, I'm having the taper blues.

Garance, when I was running marathons I never took any pain meds until the evening of the marathon and only if I needed it. Some of my friends popped pills like crazy. I believe that it was just a psychological thing for them.

Hi to Deb, Cathy, Valerie, Joan and Kathy.

Josie

I don't take meds unless I need them but that is still an interesting number. I'd like to hear more about how they arrived at the conclusion. Nancy snyderman is probably using a well researched study to state something like that, she'd be open to way too much criticism to use some fly-by-night statistics. I've read a lot about diet and exercise and never came across anything like that before. all I can think of is that it helped with aches/pains so people were able to work harder or more often. any other thoughts?

Good afternoon,

Today will be legs or cardio. I need to start some kind of ab wo but hate it.

Garance I lost the 5lbs the first two weeks and then nothing the third week. This is start of fourth week and I am recording everything.
Monday 1142 calories eaten and Tuesday 1165 calories- Monday 1824 calories used and Tuesday 1840 calories used. If all of these hold for the week I SHOULD lose 1lb. While I'm still on the Mayo Clinic diet I am following the Burn the Fat advice to eat maintenance every fourth day. Maintenance according to their calculator is 1509 sedentary and 1729 lightly active.

I'm not sure how the DWTS should pick contestants. I thought third contestant-(can't remember name) could have won in some years.
Either they should all be semi-professional or at least keep them somewhat close to same talent.

Joan

i am alive, just been so busy. and , this week has been really hard, i have been so tired and yesterday and today my acid reflux has been hurting me. but, enough whining.
this week i have done:

mon.-- back up (tracie long)
tues-- cardio sculpt blaster (old firm w/lisa kay)
today--cardio sculpt (firm)

think tomorrow is gonna be calorie killer and i may take the whole weekend off, cuz i'm so tired. gonna have the g/kids friday & sat.

Thursday

Good morning,

No workout today, I could have slept 2 more hours. I think the trip is finally catching up with me. 3 long days, and 2 nights of not so good sleep will do that. I did get in 2 treadmill workouts while I was there so I did not feel so bad about some of the bad food I had.

Garance, I can't believe what I did with my taping of DWRS. All season the Tuesday night show has started at 8:00 pm, so I hear that is it going to be a 2 hour show, so I set my tape for 8-10. Yeah, missed taping the last hour.. I can watch it on ABC Television on my computer I guess if I really want to see the whole thing.

Regarding taking tylenor or ibuprofin every day, I have heard that is it not good for your liver or kidneys to do that. I take that Exedrin PM (one only) most nights to help me sleep, and I really don't like doing it for that reason, however, I think not getting sleep is bad too, so what to do?

what is eveyone doing this weekend?

Did the plan yesterday, bike warm up and disk 8. I'm really enjoying it so much more this time and am paying more attention to when cathe tells you where to initiate the movement. guess I'm getting enough back muscles to finally feel them start the movement , rather than just my arm moving. and chinups/pullups are so much better on the tower!

Had to take our camper in to get a window replaced yesterday and that killed a bunch of the day, but it rained all day anyway. today is supposed to be drier.

Deb, we generally don't go anywhere on holidays. the traffic the crowds. outdoor things are crowded since the season is early and not enough places to go yet to disperse everyone. we're having some people over for dinner saturday, and sunday the plan is for a niece, her DH and two kiddos here sometime. one of the girls is playing in a volleyball competition so it will be figured out as the tournement goes. we may drive down to Seattle to see them if they can't get up here. so I'm not sure if I'm making lunch for them or not but need to plan for it. we may do a bike ride too. weather is not expected to be decent until monday anyway.

Nothing like travel to screw up sleep. I traveled for years and never could sleep in hotels. used to come home and sleep for 12-16 hours straight to catch up. not a good way to do it but ...

gotta get DH's breakfast, more later.

Good morning,

Yesterday's wo was 40 min on treadmill. Today has to be lower body.

Wed calories eaten 1100 and 1801 used. I'm eating really well and it seems getting all nutrition. Today is the day I eat more. I'm not sure I really want to since I haven't been hungry this week (again).

I will take my mother out for lunch and then have a 2:00 appt for laser.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie (don't know what happened to Kathy)--

This morning I did disk 15 for back and bis (54 min.).

Deb, DH and I will go see the new Sex and the City film this weekend and have his parents over for a cookout on Monday. It sounds like we will have near-perfect weather.

Valerie, I love my tower too for pullups and chinups. So what will you be cooking for your dinner guests?

What is making you so tired, Cathy? Did you ever get the MRI?

Joan, it looks like you are doing great on the calorie deficit. Maybe you will lose a couple lbs. this week. I agree about DWTS. I really liked Erin, and the chemistry with Max was great. I also liked Evan, but don't think his partner was a very good choreographer. I loved their freestyle dance, but the judges clearly did not.

Hi to Josie!
