Good morning,

Just a blob day today, don't feel like doing anything, just curl up with a book. I did minimal stuff yesterday so my list is long and daunting. ugh. Our TV crapped out on me Friday night so we went and bought a new one yesterday, an HD one that I have no idea how to use etc. It's hooked up, but I don't know how to hook up the VCR to it or anything, DH will try when he gets home from fishing. In the meantime, I did KCM;s new kickboxing workout, had to really force myself to go down there. It was ok, I hope I like it better next time.

I submitted a recipe to the forum about a week ago, did not get an e-mail confirmation or anything saying they got it. It was the the protein cranberry bars I make every week for my nightime snack. I sent a question in asking if they got it, but no response. The pic I took did not come out so good, and was huge, I could not resize it, thought they could do that.

Valerie, glad your cold is better, colds in summer ( or any time actually) are horrible.

Garance, is the office in your house or is it the one at the college? I know I would be terrible if I was working from home, I wouldn't do anything, would constantly make up excuses etc.

Joan, do you mean your yearly deductible is $3500? so you have to spend $3500 before they cover anything? or how does that work? glad your DM will be able to start moving around on her own again.

Gloomy here, not raining but it's probably what is making me just want to curl up with a book and forget all the things I have yet to do.

Take care,

the cold "resurged" yesterday and I was all congested again , coughing, nose blowing. had to take a antihistamine./decongestant and those make me feel awful, but I was like a faucet running.
today is better so far. I haven't gone this long with out a workout in years. I will do a weight workout later today. DH needs some new boots and it's raining so we need to do some shopping.
Joan, our plan is $10,000 deductible. most years it would be a savings over what gets deducted from DH's payroll. it's a good incentive to group expensive screenings etc and get it covered. unfortunately everything gets billed at full bore pricing, not the discounted rate that applies if you're insured, which is more like half price.

Deb, ITA about hooking up TV's and accessories. I gave up years ago. DH does it or it wouldn't get done. I have become an techno-idiot. I would keep it simpler but he wants all the fancy speakers etc that I'd never bother with.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

Deb, my office is definitely at the college. I have a little office at home, but I agree that I would get nothing done if I were there. I am doing 5 papers a day and at least one of the long ones, so if I keep up with this quota, I will be half done today and completely done by Friday. What good book are you reading? I am almost done with the most recent Prey book from John Sandford. I always try to do some total schlock at the end of the semester.

On the subject of appliances: this has been a terrible year. First the furnace, then the washing machine, now the canister vacuum, and today, the dishwasher! For crying out loud, what's going on? Hope the dishwasher can be fixed. I also think my very old dvd player is beginning to go because the quality of the images on my exercise dvds occasionally looks weird. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Sorry about that cold, Valerie. I have missed getting some awful thing that's been going around here where you end up with an endless cough that won't go away.

Joan, I'm not sure I would even want to go on vacation if my gall bladder was acting up.

We're going out to Mezze's again for the last "comfort Sunday" meal this year. A nice little break from the tedium of reading papers.

Garance if you had given Disney $9500 you might want to go on the trip.
I will wait and see what surgeon says on Tuesday.

Deb with the health savings account/insurance, you save your own money in account to pay bills. Money is out of dh's salary. At least it is tax free but it could have been in your paycheck. Insurance is a little cheaper but not a great deal less. You pay the $3500 before insurance picks up a dime. After that they pay 100%. It is not the copay at the doctor it is the full amount and the same with prescriptions. What is funny is that if I had no insurance they would make me pay in advance. Because I have a huge deductible I can wait until they bill me. They still don't know if I have the $3500. This is a great deal if you don't get sick. Last year we had less than $500 come out of the account and the company puts in $500. We are putting in $4500 plus company's $500. If we hadn't any bills we would have $10000 that we could use in retirement to pay for supp ins and any copays. Since hospital etc I would think would be at least $3500 I am getting all other tests done this year.

Mammogram results came back normal. I had wondered because tech. had asked if I had lost weight since last test. Does that mean that all the weight I lost came from my breasts? I wouldn't doubt it.

Joan

Good morning!

Today I did an I-Tread workout, and it was very hard for some reason. Only 31 minutes and I could not wait for it to end. Weird.

Well the VCR is hooked up, but it works differently than before, I have to keep changing the "input" line depending on if I want to watch TV or watch a tape. ugh. I loved my old Sony.

Valerie, the only reason I don't retire is because of the health care insurance. I carry it with my job for DH and me. Once I am retired, the cost triples. I never understood why the ADA did not have a good insurance plan for dentists. The district DH belongs to has one, but it is double the cost of the one I have through work, go figure. My DH has always done all the hook ups for VCR etc, but cannot program it worth a damn. too funny.

Joan, be careful travelling with a bad gall blader can be awful. When DH had to go to the ER in Mexico, we thought it was something he ate, but looking back, it was probably a gall bladder attack. At least you will be in the States! Great on the mamo results, even if it means you lost weight in your breasts! LOL.

Garance, appliances are a pain! My cousin just had a washer, refrigerator and hot water tank go all in the same week. I hear your woes.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's TLC, both workouts with 1 lb. gloves (60 min.).

Tomorrow I must have an old filling replaced, and I'm doing it early so the novocaine wears off, so I won't be exercising.

Had a nice evening out last night, but it's back to the grind today. At least it's not nice out, so I don't feel like frolicing in the sun. What is with this weather? They keep saying it's going to get warm, but it really doesn't get out of the 60s.

Joan, are you taking grandchildren to Disneyland (or is it Disneyworld?)? Hmmm--maybe not, because that wouldn't be much of a vacation. I've just never thought of it as a vacation destination for me, because I don't much like amusement rides, but there's a lot of other stuff to do (?)--right? FIL and MIL took our sons to Disneyworld when they were little (3 and 5), and they found it very hard work! Meanwhile, DH and I were in San Francisco enjoying sweet respite from the little devils.

Deb, we have 3 choices of input--cable, dvd player and vcr. I just click the home button, though, and move it. It's fairly easy. I'm no good with technology, either. I'm so glad to have dvr, because I would always ask dh to program something for me. He's really pretty good on technology. I think it's because he spends so much time as a farmer problem-solving. He is always doing some kind of maintenance on his myriad vehicles, electric fences, brooding lights, etc.

Well, I see I have blathered long enough and should get down to grading papers again. Bye!

Good morning!

I just finished KCM's Lower body split, really like this workout a lot, especially the band work. It gets right in there, for sure.

We had T-storms last night, this has been the strangest spring ever. I guess I should not be complaining, considering what they have going on in MO and other areas.

Off to shower etc,

Hi to Valerie, Joan, Cathy & Josie,

Take care,

Finally almost back to normal. went mt biking yesterday, went to our favorite park, about an hour from here. It's a state park on salt water ( whidbey island) with a bunch of trails all open to biking used mainly by mt bikers. a few walkers or horses too, but it's predominantly used by bikers. rode about 2 hours and then had a nice lunch overlooking the beach. lots of sea birds, sunshine. DH can ride up some steep hills ... I haven't improved much. I get to a certain pitch, pretty steep actually, and can't stay upright. I do better on wider trails but narrow steep ones I can't manage. whatever. walking up pushing the bike isn't any easier but balance issues aren't a factor.

Joan, sounds like we have the same sort of insurance. called a health maintenance/savings account. Our plan covers preventative maintenance. physical, labs, mamm, maintenance prescription drugs, but then you pay full price out-of-pocket for most everything else, up to $10,000. then they cover everything. It's a shock to pay full price on things but it will cost us less than the full coverage insurance. full coverage insurance cost more than $10,000 out of pocket via payroll deductions. costs can run up to $10,000 quickly, so this plan you save a lot most years, but are still protected if one of you has a bad year. .

Disneyland(world) = standing in long lines in the sun. Been to both, and definitely would not go back. not my idea of fun. once was enough.

Spring overall has been pathetic. some plants are 2 months behind where they normally would be. others not as bad, but wetter and colder, record stuff. high mt passes are still not open when usually early april is the norm. but we don't get tornados or hurricanes... even thunderstorms are unusual... so I'm not complaining too much.

Yoga this morning and finally another STS disk. I need to get back on track. between the travel and the headcold I feel way off normal.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I had a filling replaced and I'm still numb. Well, at least I caught up on all my celebrity gossip in People mag while the novocaine took effect.

Good to hear you are feeling better, Valerie! Nothing like a cold to make you miserable for a week or so. The weather here has also made things really slow in growing. By this time last year DH was already doing some hay cutting. Rained again last night, but it's definitely warmer today. Just wish the sun would come out.

Deb, I like the band work on that KCM too. I will be doing it tomorrow along with the upper body workout.

Watched Too Big to Fail on HBO last night. Very intense, and a lot of great actors.

Papers down to 15. 5 more today.

some colds are worse than others. this one was pretty rough. really interrupted sleep and normal activities. pretty decent today, glad to be over it.

lynda, you will be so glad to finish those papers. I would not have enjoyed your job.
I already have that movie marked 'save" in my Netflix queue. no clue when it will be available but we don't get HBO.
cold and gray outside although they're promising sun later today. will wait and see. will also need to do an STS disk if I can figure out where I left off.

I don't really call Disney World a vacation but I think I will enjoy seeing Elliot enjoy it. She loves princess stuff. We have a reservation at Cinderella's castle. You need to make reservations 180 days in advance:confused: and that's just for lunch.

We got a 2 bedroom villa at the Beach Club. It is a 10 minute walk from Epcot. I don't mind the heat or the walking. I'm sure I will watch the stroller while everyone goes on rides. The package includes all meals, 7 days of park tickets and the villa.

Surgery is Thursday. I will have 12 days to recover and they say 7 to 10 days are needed.

Joan

Good morning,

I am exhausted, terrible nights sleep. I ended up taking a second benadryl at midnight, and now I am so groggy.

Joan, I hope you are ok for all the walking that will be needed. Maybe you can take the stroller into a nice cafe and read a book with a cup of coffee. That's what I would do.

Garance, 15 to go? just 3 more days and then what happens? When are you off for the summer?

Valerie, I think our health care will be about $1200 a month for the 2 of us, which is the retirement cost, it's pretty high compared to what I pay now. This is Blue Cross. Where do you get the plan you are on now? Is it something through your husband's practice? Is it for both of you together? or each?

Off for more coffee so I can wake up.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did both of KCM's split sessions (60 min.).

Deb, is your DH snoring and keeping you awake? Sleep deprivation is no fun. Now I have 10 papers left to grade. Once I finish grading, I still have an article that must be at the editors by the end of June, so that will keep me busy. No classes until next spring semester, so I will have plenty of time to ponder my work and retirement. Did you watch DWTS last night?

So tomorrow, Thursday, you are going in for surgery, Joan? That will be a real burden off your mind. So you are taking Elliott with you. That makes sense. She must be about the right age to really enjoy Disneyworld.

Back to do 5 more papers. The last 5 tomorrow.

Best of luck, Joan, on the surgery. Hope it goes off without a hitch. I remember epcot center but that was 20 yrs ago. that was pretty cool at the time, more adult oriented.

Deb, it's one of the options through the larger medical group DH is a part of. We always did the regular full coverage insurance but decided to try this because it was getting so expensive whether you needed any care or not. it covers the basic screening 100% so it doesn't discourage you from doing what you should. it's basically betting that you can save all that insurance money every year if you are in decent health, but that if something really bad pops up, you are covered.

Could you try sleeping in another room to see if it helps? sometimes you get into a pattern where you almost "expect" not to sleep well, and then the usual cues are there, and sure enough, you don't sleep..... I start most nights with DH but usually move in the middle of the night. then come back in the morning. the spare room is darker and I toss a little after getting up to pee. I can toss around in the spare room without waking up DH, where we get into a cycle of keeping each other awake. we have no problem when sleeping in our camper and it's a smaller bed.

oh yeah, I did yoga yesterday, disk 22 and the abs from HR. this morning we did a brisk couple mile walk in a park, and will do some yard work next.

Hi Ladies,

I went to spinning and zumba on Saturday and no workout on Sunday and Monday. Last night my DD and I went spinning. I plan on going to a zumba class tonight.

Joan, good luck on your surgery. I love taking my grandkids to the amusement parks; there are so many in LA. We have been to all of them. I usually take care of the stuff while the kids and their parents go on the rides. I do get on some of the rides with them.

Hi to Valerie, Garance and Cathy!

Josie

hi everyone, sorry to be awol. just seem to be so busy. but, i got a mailer for the new "low impact" w/outs and it sparked my interest. what do ya'll think about them?
i actually did body max this morning. for some reason i had energy. i skipped the upper body, will do it tomorrow with probably one of tracie's new ones.
hope everyone is doing well, i'll try to not be so absent.:)

Good morning,

I just finished the KCM's Upper Body Split. 38 minutes. Perfect amount of time for me.

Garance, not it wasn't DH's snoring ( for once!), I think it was work issues on my mind. I just felt like my mind was racing and I could not relax. Had to start reading again at midnight. I can't imagine having to read and grade all those papers. I know when I do performance appraisals every year for the same people, it gets hard trying to come up with fresh comments.

Valerie, I wish DH had something in that catagory of insurance that we could get into.

Josie, do you do Zumba a lot? my cousing loves it, but says she will only do it in a class setting, not a DVD. I guess a DVD by yourself is not as much fun. I never tried it. I kind of like working out alone.

Joan, Good Luck on the surgery!

Cathy, I pre-ordered the new low impact series, you could not beat the price! Even if I only like half of them, it is still a deal. I will probably sell the spinning one since I don't have a spinning bike and don't plan on getting one.
Anyone have any plans for the long weekend? Let's pray for

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Zumba Cardio Party (55 min.).

Deb, I have the same problem if something is really bothering me about work. It's been a long time since I've anguished over a class that did not go well, but that was usually what would bother me. It took me awhile before I realized that it was not always my fault if class discussion faltered or I didn't get any questions after a lecture.

Just curious, Josie: How much do you pay for a Zumba class? I really like a couple of the workouts in my Total Body Transformation package, and have been thinking about the new Exhilaration dvds, but I wish I could just buy one instead of the whole package, because I know I won't want to use them all. I looked into Zumba classes around here, but they are too far away to be practical.

Cathy, I bought the presale package, too, because of the low impact promise.

Finally, summer here. Going up into the 80s with only a chance of thunderstorms. We will be having MIL and FIL over for Memorial Day. They are back from Florida (snowbirds) because it's starting to get too hot for them and they like to play golf. I've never been in Florida in the summer, but it sounds like a steambath.

5 more papers! Then I will stop complaining.

Hi Ladies,

My DD enjoyed the Zumba class. Tonight we have not decided what to do for our workout. I might suggest that we do a Supreme 90 workout.

Deb and Grance, I pay $39.00 per month for my Gold's membership and it includes all the spinning and zumba classes. I don't have to pay extra and the gym offers a lot of other classes to choose from. Deb, I would be interested in buying your spinning DVD once it comes out.

I try to do zumba 2 times per week and I love going to the gym. If I had to do it by myself I would not do it. I'm used to working out in a group. The spinning and zumba classed run about $15-to $20 each if you go to the different studios around my neighborhood.

Josie

Deb, the insurance package is fairly new, available maybe the last 2 years? I think it's becoming a more common option. I've heard others talk about it as a choice. It works together with a health saving account (HSA) where you take pre-tax dollars set $$ aside to cover expenses. you get a debit card to use the account. the chances are good we won't spend $10,000 this year, which is close to what full cover insurance would have cost. this way we have a chance of keeping some of the money.

Lynda, I absolutely hate Florida. It must be the worst weather in the world. hot and humid. I've been forced to go there more than once, and it was awful in winter and spring. I can't imagine summer. I still remember the air conditioning running full bore, and water running down the windows from condensation. and it was still too warm to sleep. but I didn't like Hawaii either. Congrats on being down to the last 5 papers!

We are still like winter here. cold and wet. this is getting old even for me.
